I wish I felt the same way as you guys about guitars. To me a guitar is like a car....gets you from A to B. Don't get me wrong, I love most of my guitars, there's a certain black one that I panic bought...urgh! So it sits upstairs gathering dust. It looks pretty, but....

My Crafter I need for recording.
My Tanglewood for pleasure.
My Telecaster for stage and also recording.
My non-descript 12er also recording.
My Wilson bass...ditto
My 72 Strat comes out now and then for enjoyment along with my Fender F90 acoustic.

I have no plans to buy more, but never say never. I fancy a gold top LP but they're far too expensive.
As they say about alcohol; let's hope enough comes before falling over

trevor, i have no idea of what you mean by "cancerian" or "sublime messages", but i'm with you all the way. i find it difficult to believe in any kind of divine being when you see all the death and suffering that's been caused in the name of "God" of any religion.

wouldn't it be nice to spend the summer in one hemisphere then migrate to the other hemisphere for the summer there? it's brass monkey weather here at the moment. as the Eagles said in Desperado...."the sky wont snow and the sun don't shine" it hardly ever snows in Llanelli.
i've experienced the OZZY summer a couple of years back; 40 degrees in the shade, great for the tan lol but i suspect slightly cooler in NZ?

personally, i never read the papers or seldom watch the news, i check the internet for what interests me, like Llanelli SCARLETS beating Toulouse last saturday, that's news you want to hear any time of year.

having said all that, what a great piece of journalism, better than the trash the papers put out.

Yes, more like a narrative or preface to a novel than a poem. That matters not a jot. It's interesting and informative and leaves you waiting and wanting the next installment.

Fine work, let us know when it's up on YouTube or SoundCloud

It's a shame that some cretin has to spoil a good thread with mindless spam. Keep up the replies guys....one day we'll beat this thing

Trevor, this is great! The only improvement I can imagine is a solid drum beat on the second half maybe 2 minutes in. A nice rip roaring guitar solo about the last third. Other than that I think you've nailed it.

For those that don't know, Aethelflaed was Alfred the greats daughter, I think?

I see you've taken Open Your Eyes down...shame, I know I'm at fault...sorry. listened to that also, and it's a fine song recorded in a Simon and Garfunkel style, with a Bob Dylan-esque vocal performance. Anyone that haven't listened to these two tracks should do so...you won't be sorry.

Very atmospheric. Loved the jazz chords. I actually thought you were playing an electric piano? By the end I could tell it was guitar finger plucking.
Well done, it would be nice to see the words cos I always seem to get them wrong as in "return to Sindy" or correctly "return to sender"
Good song well performed.

Being a Celt, or at least Welsh, it's quite possible that your forefathers pushed mine out of what's now called England. How could events that happened 1500 years ago cause offense? It's all part of this countries colourful past.

If you're referring to the religious aspect? Religion along with politics is a taboo subject here so don't worry about it.

Really enjoyed that, well done. Took me back to my folk music days in the 60's. I'm guessing you've been reading Bernard Cornwell books too? They're brilliant.

Good song well performed

Well said Peatle. It is such a shame that some musos feel that they are so far above the (possibly) less talented that they cant bring themselves to even offer help, assistance or conversation to us less fortunate.
C.G. I hope you find a place where the standard is equal to your own.

Like Phill, I usually don't usually play loud enough to need plugs, and play more acoustic than electric. Having tube amps with a power soak circuit really helps, to dial in a nicely saturated tone without high volume. However, I do a fair bit of wood-working with power tools, and use quality hearing and eye protection at all times. High speed motors (thickness planer, jointer, router, etc.) produce high frequencies than can do a lot of damage.

I was a health and safety guy when I was working in a factory and attended many hearing courses so as it turns out deep bass notes, sounds or machine rumbles cause more damage to hearing though high frequencies are as bad. Imagine how the kids of today with their 200 watt speakers in the boot (trunk) of their car will fare when they get into their 60's?

I don't play loud enough to warrant using plugs these days though I do suffer with tinnitus, I put that down to working in noisey factories for twenty odd years obviously the rock bands during the 70s had nothing to do with it?

Which nuts would they be then; a new Ozzy band or are they to be found in the trouser department?  lol

Thanks Richard, very interesting. I do play live drums on all my recordings, along with keyboards, guitars and bass, all self taught. I'm not good at any but I love doing it and there's that great feeling if the recording turns out well.
I shall frequent that site when looking for a new drum pattern.

hi Jim.

no it's not the whole song, just the drum pattern. which doesn't go to say that my hearing is right?

should i be ashamed to say that i listen more to the production of a song now rather than the words or the singer? my guilty pleasure would be to sit in on the recording sessions for some of my favourite LPs; Sgt Peppers, Abbey Road, Roots to Branches (jethro tull)  close to the edge (yes) and so on, to see how they put their songs together and how they mixed the songs down. it would also be good to be with other musicians, like i used to in the 70's, writing and arranging our songs....ahhh the good old days

i've never been a rolling stones fan but just lately i've heard "satisfaction" quite a lot. then i heard "oh pretty woman" and "satisfaction" back to back on a good sound system and realised the drum pattern is the same! so as release times in the US and UK were (and are) sometimes weeks apart which came out first? to be honest i cant be bothered to look it up, i wonder if one or the other was copying?

It's 10 am new years eve morning here in not so sunny (old) south Wales. It's not as cold as it has been. In 14 hours time it will be 2018, but to be honest, I'm looking forward more to our Sunday lunch that's cooking at the moment...yum, yum!

Peatle and all you colonials down south, Ann and I wish you a happy new year and of course all my Chordie friends all over the world.

Blwyddyn newydd dda I chwi gud

I've been asked to do a parody of the Killers "Human." It will be about my local rugby team, the Scarlets and will be mostly about the team and the game of rugby. The initial piece I've got has one or two lines that are on the original. So, as there has been a discussion about copyright recently and it's unlikely the song will be played outside of Llanelli (may not be heard at all) if I put it on Soundcloud or similar am I likely to get sued?

I've read this through and as usual with your writing, you paint a story that one cant help but visualise. Unfortunately it's a little too close to home for me to read it or play it through again as a member of my family is experiencing this whole mess. I can say no more. But well done, great writing as always.

And still no one knows for sure the meaning of Bohemian rhapsody. My own thoughts on the subject are that Freddy as we know was gay and after a particularly bizarre and flagrant life style knew he had something wrong from the early 70s.  It was AIDS of course, with no cure at  the time. And "pulled my trigger now he's dead"! And that fact I think haunted him till he brought it out well veiled in this song.

Danny Boy is a song I'm asked quite often to perform but I only do the first verse and chorus. As usual with me, I couldn't be bothered to learn the rest. I always thought Goodnight Irene was an Irish folk song?
