Badeye, I know that some "diseases", better medical problems are "recognised" as caused by work.
There are a few examples.
IT always occurs, in 90% of the "cases" by repetitive movements. A painter will suffer more in the shoulder and develop arthrosis, and/or rotator cuff problems. It starts with very little defects in a tendon, if you continue it gets worse. But if it is your profession, if you are working independent, no boss, the more you work, the more you earn, it isn't funny. I was busy to destroy the remaining good part of my body, when I started again in 2001, resulting in a STOP in 2004. People in the construction business, like to work on a floor, KNEE problems. Sportsmen, classical problem later.
Computer: this is now recognised as causing problems, hand, neck, shoulder.
In fact every occupation or profession where you use the same "repetitive" movements, will cause in 80% problems. So the guitar too. And when playing guitar, as a professional, is often not noticed, and neglected. This was a kind of message that I wanted to write.

Re: Guitar effects (12 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hello Tibernius.
How is the ZOOM G2.1U? I read some comments, all pretty good.
to iandraper: please follow the advise of my friend SouthPaw41L.
Besides advise, I still don't know what's best. There are "single" effects, like 1 for distortion, and you can go on. My biggest problem is always the same, impatient, and I WANT IT ALL. This is a nasty habit.
So what happened, I think 10 years ago, I bought my first "effect processor", a floorboard ZOOM 8080 AND I BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL IN PRODUCTION. I adore effects. Important is also THE AMP. My first amp was a Marshall 100W Valvestate, real good and loud, with the basic effects like distortion, reverb, delay. About 5 years ago, I found on the Fender website "the Fender Cybertwin" 2X65W a KILLER. It is amazing, and still mysterious or miraculous how they make products like this. Go see the cybertwin, and judge for yourself. I am addicted to effect processors, and 7-8years ago I buyed a Boss VF 1: 400 patches (200 Preset 200 User)—including everything from COSM® Guitar Amp and Microphone. Fantastic device. But 2 years ago: Line6 PODxt Live, genial floorboard. My best buy was and is a Korg PX4D Pandora. Amp modelling, effects and a RHYTHM SECTION on board. I play alone, and because of the different rhythms, my playing style changed: RHYTHM. All the effect processors I mentioned can be found on the web: the WHAT, the HOW, the POSSIBILITIES are on the internet. For me my little Pandora= best processor/price

Re: the importance of myspace and youtube concerning music. (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Thank you so much.SouthPaw41L, I still don't know where your nickname means.
Indeed, my biggest problem is: impatient AND a hate to read manuals. The manual was included, but I was lucky and found a DUTCH manual.
Knowing me, I will probably go to my music store and ask them to explain how it works and how to "create" a song. Due to my car crash, I have ALL the time, and in the week it is not so busy. I know, it sounds weird, and like I told: impatient + lazy.
I used to call myself a very active lazy person
. When I was still working so hard, I was happy to be at home on Saturday 17.00 pm, and Sunday: a real heaven, just laying and watch first video's, and since some years DVD's. The purpose is to watch a movie, not thinking, an make my head empty.
About youtube and myspace, did you look already to hear the sound of an acoustic guitar? You can find a lot of different guitars AND their sound. It is great to compare, and hear "never heard of" guitars.
Electric too, but they use almost (90%) distortion, to show how great they are, playing solos.
So what is the opinion here.

Topic: the importance of myspace and youtube concerning music. (15 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I discovered these sites some months ago, and it was for me really amazing to see what they offer.
I became member, of course with my gitaardocphil nick.
I found already the "chordian section" and this is what it should be, a place to show and perform as I saw (Friends of chordie). It is still difficult (better: impossible) to record, correct, add effects, with my Boss BR 600, caused by being too lazy: 90%. I hate manuals (this one 220 pages thick), I am very impatient.
WHY THIS TOPIC:
- You can hear and/or see some chordians in action.
- You can find rare, new and "never heard of" guitar brands in action. This is a the place to listen and see playing "unknown brands" like Joe Fitz wrote in a topic, Morgan Monroe guitars.
It isn't so that you will find all acoustics, but if there are "unknown" guitars, it allows you to listen, how the guitar sounds.
- You can find songs performed by artists, and/or interpretations of the same song.
- At last, you can have a lot of fun, seeing bloopers, voice imitators.
I ONLY WANT TO KNOW ONE THING. IF YOU PUT YOUR SONG ON YOUTUBE OR MYSPACE, AND SOMEONE LOVES THAT SONG, COMPOSED BY ME for EXAMPLE, AND START TO COPY IT, HAVING A HUGE HIT WITH "YOUR" SONG.... WHAT CAN YOU DO LEGALLY? It is impossible to registrate every song to be protected.
Who knows more about youtube/myspace and the consequences?

Re: Morgan Monroe (7 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Joe Fitz, I NEVER HEARD ABOUT THESE GUITARS, I was really amazed, and so I wanted to describe this guitar. They are made in Korea I think. I go also to myspace and youtube to see if you can hear the guitar. The top of the line is Morgan Monroe Deluxe Vintage Style Acoustic Guitar M-50 and this model feature:
* A pre-aged, vintage toned “AA†Solid Sitka Spruce top
* Scalloped pre-war forward shifted X-bracing
* Solid rosewood back and sides
* Mahogany neck
* Ebony fingerboard and bridge
* Vintage style keys with butter bean buttons
* Japanese ivoroid binding and bridge pins
* 43mm bone nut and saddle.
Price 999$ and similar to a Martin, if you compare the wood used.
Nice guitar. Do you own a guitar like this?

SGinCYQX: Thanks a lot for noticing it. This topic is far the most long topic, and I like to know how many people do have problems by playing guitar. I also think that I forgot to write about your shoulder --> pain ---> problems. I t is called "Rotator Cuff ( a word used because it concerns 4 muscles) Syndrome, It starts with very little lesions in the tendons, followed by calcium particles in that shoulder, together forming a bigger calcification, AGAIN CAUSED BY REPETITIVE MOVEMENTS.
Thanks to SGinCYQX 's " eagle eyes", I added this again, even when I noticed that I did mention this, answering on a question, or a fact written by Old Doll and Last_Rebel. I did write it at first, but I deleted it in the heat of the battle. Thanks to you, I wrote it now, in the first topic.

Doll and Rebel, I really appreciate what you write. It is SO underestimated and SO important at the same time. Even being a doc, I neglected these problems.
I forgot one thing: in 1988 I broke my wrist and in stead of following physiotherapy, I used (my left hand) this method, and I really saw a progression. WHEN PROBLEMS, LIKE PAIN, NEVER PASS THAT LIMIT. IT IS A SIGNAL PRODUCED BY YOUR BODY.
I hope to help a lot of people with this topic, it is a lot more common than you all think.

Topic: MEDICAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY PLAING MUSIC (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
IS"NT IT A STRANGE TOPIC?
At first sight yes, what the h** is this topic doing here.
THIS TOPIC ar SECOND SIGHT MEANS MORE THAN YOU THINK.
You can think that it is not belonging here, BUT IT BELONGS HERE, because of some crucial medical advise.
Just think about the fact that your fingertips start to be, sometimes extremely painful, causing problems. Here: no harm done, it happened or happens to almost all of us. So what can you get, playing instruments, like violin and here of course the guitar.
THIS IS A REAL DIFFICULT TOPIC, BUT I THOUGHT THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT, JUST BECAUSE MOST OF US DON'T PAY ATTENTION, OR IGNORE THIS PROBLEM.
1) Singers: sound quality of the voice comes from the larynx, tongue, lips, palate, pharynx, nasal cavity, quit a combination. Just think of a common cold, coughing, and nasal problems. This a hard one for a MD. Other people can be silent, but a singer? If he continues to sing, he risks even to develop nodules on the vocal chords. Needless to say, smoking is extremely damaging to oral, lung, and throat mucosa and has to be avoided.
Of course, there is a treatment, or extra help to stay singing: Cortisone, Inhalations with Eucalyptus
still there is only one solution: DON'T SING.
2) Instrumental musicians are a special risk group for repetitive motion injuries, you play guitar, when you play a chord JUST LOOK AT YOUR HAND USED TO TAKE CHORDS. It is an unnatural position, so evident that you never look how that hand is twisted around the neck. I wrote: repetitive motions, or (I prefer) movements. The fact that, when playing guitar, you make repetitive movements can cause a "tendinitis", an inflammation of a tendon. Electric bass guitar players have an even greater likelihood of problems. Plucking versus bowing is more difficult on fingers, and the thicker strings of bass guitars are more difficult to pluck than those on lead guitars. Size and weight of instrument are problematic, even with shoulder straps.
All guitarists use hyperflexion of wrists, and flexion of left fingers across strings, causing tension problems. The size of the players versus their instruments may cause difficulties.
Nerve entrapments are common, see again the "specific" unnatural position.
Guitar players will initially notice tingling, heaviness, coldness, tightness, or lack of flexibility in fingers or hands. If these problems are ignored, the result may become a nerve root compression in the neck. Carpal, median, cubital, and ulnar nerves are all subject to entrapment problems. In English: problems with nerves, caused by a kind of irritation, and even, still ignoring it, finally compression. Typical: THE CARPAL TUNNEL syndrome, and leading to surgery, if again ignored. Another important fact is a chronic back problem caused by playing in the same position for hours. Try to stand right and play a Gibson guitar, if it is a hobby, you will feel "your back, after 30-60 minutes.
CONCLUSION: ALWAYS NERVE/MUSCULAR, BUT I AM THE LAST PERSON TO SAY THAT THIS IS COMMON AND FOR ALL GUITAR PLAYERS. If playing guitar is a hobby, it is easier to rest.
BUT if you live from playing guitar, it can be a catastrophe.
OK guys, don't panic at all, it doesn't occur in 100%, it is more "bad luck". Doctors will treat the
guitar player, by administrating injections, painkillers...
DRUMMERS seem to have lesser problems, I think because their muscles are developing, and so they keep the right balance.
WOW, this one took me 3 hours. But I really hope that you appreciate this topic, because nobody stands still about medical problems. If hobbyist: easy to rest or playing less, Professional artists; this is another "thing".
I would be pleased if guitar (bass included) players, singers can provide suggestions, or other problems.
I REPEAT AGAIN: THIS IS CAUSED BY REPETITIVE MOVEMENTS.
SGinCYQX, very clever, he mentioned the fact that you can treat some medical problems. I DID write advise about that point. I broke my wrist in 1988 and after an X-ray the found an 3IMPACTION FRACTURE". When you are falling, you will reach in a reflex your hand (my left hand) you can break your wrist. An impact fracture occurs when my wrist bones entered in my fore arm bones. Better to understand: you jump from 5 metres and land on your feet. The most common fracture you will see, is one bone that enters in another. My wrist: once the splint or cast was removed, I had to go to a physiotherapist, I never went, and I discovered a strange fact, that playing the guitar, and using your left hand to "create" a chord, it was really hard, but AGAIN: Don't cross the pain "border". Stop before the pain starts to be worse, and it depends from person to person, how fast it will heal and more important to play my beloved guitar.
I am convinced that I wrote it here, and being busy to write this correct AND to explain everything not in MD terminology, resulting in adding, deleting, adding.. but I do hope that guitar players (I mentioned the other musicians too) is able to learn something. It surely don't happen 100%, 75% is closer. BUT THANKS SGinCYQX for noticing it. It took me a few hours, and the edit/delete was used a lot. IF YOU BREAK YOUR LEFT HAND: I AM STILL CONVINCED THAT THIS IS THE BEST TREATMENT,AFTER REMOVING THE SPLINT. NEVER TRESPASS YOUR PAIN LIMIT, and this goes together with a lot of other problems

Re: 12 STRING SONGS (1 replies, posted in Electric)
ROCK SONGS?
If you look here on chordie, go to the Byrds, playing often with a 12 string guitar. This band is the first I can think of. It is also not too difficult to play their songs, and if you find, let's say 5 difficult songs, there might be a chance you can find them, under another name, the composer name, like Bob Dylan. They had n unique sound, because of the 12-string Rickenbacker. I am convinced (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Byrds influenced a lot of guitar players.
People like George Harisson, started playing a 12-string. I have a BURNS 2x6 (in stead of naming their guitar a 12-string). You create a particular sound, and only for your fingers: they will be a lot more painful than a 6-string, but I got the impression that a 12-string, because you have to push on 2 strings every single chord, is finally better for your fingers.
A good idea can be: google: 12-string bands, and you will detect more artists, not only from the "sixties" but also new bands too.
Hoe I could help.
The song: "turn, turn, turn" performed by the Byrds is written by Pete Seeger.

Re: How to play different chords (14 replies, posted in Acoustic)
What upyerkilt writes is fantastic. Even so called basic chord, take B, you can play that chord like he wrote, also in barré on the 7th fret, with one finger covering the strings, and the chord used with a finger position=to E.
Practise is one thing, a great help can be achieved, trying to play-a-long, with a song on CD. It worked a lot for me. You HAVE to practise too, changing fast your finger position.
If you like to see the chords and finger positions, you will find a lot. Google guitar chords, and you will be surprised. Example: www.chordbook.com. This shows you a lot of chords, DON'T panic, I would be real surprised if a human being can play all chords. Start with the basic chords, A B C D E F G, and followed by minor chords Am Bm Cm Em Fm .. a lot of chords aren't
easy at all, and add on top of it "septime" chords; like E7 B7.... Here you will find akk you need.

Rocktabai, almost everybody (99;990%, is nice and your are part of. This is the main reason why I started. You go to chordie, forum and what more do you need..
You see chords, but to play complexer chord go to special site, showing and probably learn.
Some tips, if you don't are a skilled player and I assure you that it looked easier to take a chord.
There are sites giving YOU THE POSSIBILITY TO TUNE YOUR GUITAR 100% CORRECT)
You see chords but what sound will come out of your ACOUSTIC guitar. So what kind of guitar do you have, how old are you, where do you live, and what is your style on acoustic guitar: is it fingerpicking, strumming.. I started to play, ACOUSTIC 29-30 years ago. Here in Belgium (Country of the chocolates, our "manneke pis" you should google that word, and will see the statue). HERE:
- what kind of guitar do you play? An Electric and/or acoustic?
- Your music style?
On chordie you will find more tha you can imagine, by reading some topics and answers.
So what

Topic: new song: how to put chords in a topic? (0 replies, posted in Songwriting)
I have a brandnew song again, but I like to know the best way to show it, it is again a more complicated song.
So I put it here, I want to have some advise. WHY?
The song starts with the E chord, and this E chord is followed by, exactly the same finger position, E, I go to the 6th fret (similar to the A chord), using only a few strings and back to E.
Also from E up to the 4th fret, fingers are in E chord "modus".
How CAN I PUT CHORDS IN HERE? This is in fact my biggest question: how do you manage to explain a chord, by putting the chord in the topic

Re: Easy blues songs? (13 replies, posted in Electric)
James, playing the blues is a skill, and you have to learn it. That's more difficult for me, and my question is again: "the importance of scales".
Everytime I look on the web, I never find a theory that fit's me well. I studied so long, and I confess: I am lazy, it has to come without an effort, but that is probably an utopia..
1,944 2007-10-27 14:20:33
Re: Hello, newbie here (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
well rocktabai, what can I say, James wrote it already. I can only confirm what he writes, and I am also interested in your music style, if you play in a band....
Chordie is a great place to be. You can ask whatever you want, you can talk about your skills, taste, style. It is a big nice family here.
I do hope, better I am convinced that you are able to find what you want. Topics: about almost everything, like here in the acoustic, discussing about the best guitar for your money, to electric, bands, songs.

Hi, JohnnieBG, I just checked that device. It is digi tech, and they have a real good quality. I don't know if you perform, and if not, you don't need an expensive amp. Besides, I am "addicted to" effect processors. I have 3 amps, a Fender Cybertwin, having so much on board that it is hard to believe. All kinds of effects, having a lot of amps, most Fender amps, like twin reverb, bassman...friends play or listen sometimes to an amp they own, like a Twin Reverb. If you choose an amp, the knobs turn automatic, and if needed, I can still change the positions of the knobs, the same you do if you have an amp. Add a lot of effects, and the knowledge that this amp is a "hybrid" having tubes, and digital modelling and effects. I never saw an amp like the Cybertwin (2x65W) it blows you away. Also a Marshall Valvestate and a Marshall AS100D (for acoustics), but I use this more for electric guitar. That RP50 is really very interesting. I never heard about it, but the combination: guitar -- effects---amp (+ MODELLING, different types of amps, and very important, if you play alone, the rhythm section). I have something similar: Korg ToneWorks Pandora PX4D: Features a total of 158 effect types ranging from realistic amp sounds – including high-quality cabinets – to sophisticated effects. AND a rhythm section, allowing me to practise alone, following the rhythm. FANTASTIC and real close to your RP50.

Re: Easy blues songs? (13 replies, posted in Electric)
Cytania, your answer is similar to my answer. I love to see that other chordians are writing, basicly the same. BUT you know so much about guitars, more the theoretical side. Thanks to some of your answers, I started to read more about blues and I try to do what you suggest.
I think that my answer was good, but all the scales?!! is it possible to get more information concerning "blues", it can help a lot of us. It is not relevant, me playing blues, and I can play "blues" but I never used scales, and I wrote approximately 10 songs.
The chords are often the same: 3 chords, and the 7th, like E7 A7 B7, is a CLASSIC example.
And if I feel sad, (they call it the blues for a reason) it comes from deep inside.

Re: Has anyone tried these guitars? (18 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Rubbersoul (Beatle Fan?) I have a friend who owns a STAGG, a fender telecaster clone.
I have a rare pistache green Fender Telecaster California Beach(CB) a reissue of a 1952 Telecaster. Why rare, because the CB Telecaster was only for the European Market. There are maybe US telecaster fans, having this guitar, because of having family here, or maybe eBay. I never found why they were only for the European market (a stratocaster included). The sound is heavenly.
Probably this is supposed to be a very expensive guitar (again the passion to play and an investment.
About STAGG, I played it a few times, and the sound was pretty good. I don't know if the body is made of 1 piece, the sound wasn't that bad as a lot of people write. Using the Stagg on my Fender Cybertwin, all effects and a lot of Fender amps on board+playing it loud, they sound better. I believe that there is something with that guitar. I got a few times serious feedback.
CONCLUSION: not bad, but definitely not good.
There are better guitars, more low budget guitars. Epiphone?. I went to the music store 2 months ago, with the "stagg guy" he was looking around because he wanted to buy an Epiphone.
I played on the SG special, also the cheapest, but the sound was a lot better compared to the G-400 epiphone almost double in price. Personal taste: SG special
Detman wrote: I'm one of the most impatient people in this world.
I recognised myself 100%, I was also very impatient. Take a Plasma screen 52", I HAD TO BUY IT, money or not. Speaking of guitars, being impatient can be "dangerous". When you see a friend playing on a Gibson SG, and you purchased an Epiphone SG, you will "suffer". It is worth to wait and save your money. here are a few real affordable Gibsons and now I can say, that with a little budget, you are able to have some nice guitars.

Re: MONEY DOES GROW ON TREES (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Me neither.
I know they use a lot of spruce for the top. It get's even worse knowing that wood is "living"and if you like to ruin her, play under water.
Cheaper models have a laminated top.
To have a good guitar, you need a plain top and not laminated. I also found the difference between a traditional guitar versus a flamenco guitar. Flamenco players are looking for a guitar, play short and powerful. They use more porous wood like cypress.
So a lot of acoustic guitars, have a "plain top"and the most used wood is Spruce and Cedar. Both are a kind of related, by being pine trees, and each of them will give you a different sound. Which guitar is better, it is too subjective. Like every tree is different, for example spruce, there will be a difference, wood from spruce nr 1 will sound different than spruce nr 2. They are exactly the same kind of tree, and using exact the same wood, the sound will be different.
Spruce is, and is not spruce: same tree, (used a lot for Christmas tree) will be different. Canadian spruce, German spruce....
This is really difficult and searching on the web, finding so many information, drives you crazy, end this answer but first a question about Gibson SJ-200 and Epiphone EJ-200
EPIHONE HUMMINGBIRD: 300$
- mahogany body with a solid spruce top projects rich tone that improves with age, and the bound rosewood.
GIBSON HUMMINGBIRD: 3500$
- Premium sitka spruce top, Mahogany back and sides and Madagascar rosewood fingerboard
Comparing these 2 guitars alone, shows that the wood they used is at first sight the same.
WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE, AND DO PEOPLE NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE, playing on the epi and the gibson?

Re: Strumming Problems (4 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I can only agree with my friends SouthPaw and Zurf. When I started to play centuries ago, I considered myself already as a guitar hero, because I was able to play some chords.
Even much later, I was so used to play songs, using my own style. It is hard to understand, but it is only since 10 months that I started trying strumming in a decent way. My MISTAKES:
- Rhythm problems (a lot better, since I play with a friend, who plays drum as well guitar)
- Strumming problems, like two down, one up, I start to follow the pattern
- The biggest problem is, I play a lot since 3 years, and by playing, often alone, I developed my own style. When I play, people like what I play, unfortunately I don't play songs as written in books, with strumming patterns.
I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD HELP TO FOLLOW PRIVATE LESSONS, because of my style to play.
