I tried to sing with as much feeling as I could and with more than a little nod to the Animals HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN. Jim's pictorial background makes it ever so more poignant and his words, as ever, so discriptive and eloquent. I am as always delighted to be part of this project.

I know Jim also wants to dedicate this song to our dear friends Bill and Dondra in their time of mourning.

We must also give our prayers and rememberances to those that were murdered on Saturday in London. Let us all pray that these weak minded fools will throw down their guns and bombs and join the 21 at century soon.

There is no glory in killing inocents. There is no paradise waiting for murderers.

hi jim,

i've sent you my cover. i didn't want to hear how you did it till after i'd finished, and i have to say it's not that much different, i went for the bluesy approach.

i guess you've heard about the attack in london at the week end? whats wrong with these people?

Dear Bill and Dondra,

This news is so sad and tragic. I guess we've all lost parents and or siblings but to lose a child must be the worst. Thankfully it's not a situation I've had to endure but that doesn't mean I don't feel your loss.

Ann also sends her love and prayers to you both. RIP Jason and condolences to you both.

Haven't heard it for years. Still sounds fresh though. One of those one hit wonders!
It reminded me that I was trying to get a date with a gorgeous girl and she'd written the words down in her school book, we were 14 at the time. So I borrowed the book! Never did get that date.....

Thanks for that Russ. Must say I didn't know of him before. I prefer his version to all the other slow ones I've heard and I'll be doing this version in future. Loved the HELLO MAMMA track too! Hysterical.

The stooges were brilliant and their timing was spot on. They must have spent weeks rehearsing that song alone!

The world is full of sadness lately and yet another bights the dust. RIP GREG.

It's a sad song and with this subject rightly so. You seem to be able to put down in writing what most of us can only feel.
Congratulations on another beautiful if sad song. Still a few days from my guitar but we'll be reunited soon.

You let it go on Holiday without you ???  What a guy !!  big_smile  big_smile

Yeah, I take my tablet but leave my guitar at home. Doesn't make sense does it? It's like taking the washing machine and leaving the wife behind.....Then again!!!!!!!!!

You've nailed it again. Every statement is true, but I love the last line of the chorus and song,
IF I FALL DOWN SEVEN TIMES I'LL GET UP EIGHT.

Can't wait to try it out but I won't see my guitar for another week

Hi Bushy, from one old fogey to another my gigging days are rapidly coming to an end too. It's funny how when you start out you think you'll go on forever but as friends diminish and your idols get to look old and wrinkly, your fingers ache and you can't straighten up after bending and standing up singing and playing guitar for 2 hours really hurts, you realise it's time to hang up the Stetson and lose the southern twang. I'm not looking forward to that day but i know it's not far off. So let's grow old disgracefully....

Chordie is such a terrific resource and contact forum, and I'm glad Per is able to attract some advertising to keep it going at zero cost for us. This site is almost a daily stop for me, and there's always something read, a new song to look up, etc.

BUT ... the best feature of this site is the respectful and constructive attitude of all you Chordians. Like any community, the residents are what make or break it ... and y'all have made this place fantastic!

HEAR, HEAR. good point well made

Great guitar and vocals the sound they achieve is brilliant, but it would be nothing without your fabulous talent as a peerless writer. Give my regards to your friends.

love the jokes, haven't had a chance to listen to the song yet but i will get around to it.

i saw a sign in a pub " duck or grouse"

a guy walks into a pub and steps into some doggie doodle. some time later a big fella walks in to the pub and slips on the doggie muck and falls right in it, the first guy laughs and says "i did that" and woke up in hospital next day!

edited to make some sense

In Wales or at least my part, it's used to describe an affliction opposite to bow legged, where the knees bend inwards and maybe touch when walking. I have heard the saying "knees knocking" in relation to a scary event like catting a young lady up!!!

edit; that should read "chatting a young lady up" oops

Doug has made a valid point so have the others. In the darkness of the venue many a 14 year old may look 20. I'm not making excuses for our musical heroes, but slime like Gary Glitter never made that mistake he actively searched out under age kids. Bile rises just thinking about him.

As for Phil Spector, can anyone trash his earlier work for his stupidity in later life?

Would we have listened to and made superstars of Elton John, George Michael, David Bowie if we'd known they were gay?

The Beatles, according to many an anthology, regularly stole, took drugs and who knows what else before becoming famous! If we'd known would we have elevated them to those great heights?

I hate crime, paedophiles, killers and violence but mostly rap and techno....Sorry, i had to lighten it as it was getting too heavy

Great topic E B
