Could this be the origin of the term - " Drum Roll please ?" ![]()
Methinks the hospitals should be donating a percentage to the chordie website since it seems we all have become such good patrons.
Bill the story was fab - lots of smiles in that one.
Sorry about the fall - hope for a speedy recovery
AT least it happened before this damned Irma hits your area an inundates you with H2O
and I agree with Phill - I need to speak with the emergency services at my ER - I didn't get any lollipop !
( I'm figuring the treated you special b/c you had Dondra with you !)
JIm
Might have to include Florida and east coast states in a few days

When I was in college, I always jokingly answered the phone in my dorm room by saying " The Incredibly Good Looking Jim Kenyon, how can I help ya ?" A couple of my friends that were girls made me a shirt for Christmas with TIGL-JK on it as a gift. When I post stuff on the net, including Chordie, I use the acronym mainly because I do not want my students to find it - so hence I often use the alias. ![]()
Jim
that's funny!!!
TF
WOW !!!!!!!!
Well thank you for removing about an hour and a half from my Monday morning !
I could not stop watching these amazing performances.
You are absolutely correct - pick any one and it is fantastic!
The song they did by Toto - Africa - by far my favorite however. The simulated thunderstorm was incredible. I kept saying to my self as I listened with headphones - there has got to be some musical instruments or digital enhancement - but alas - there is none !!!!
I really love great musical talent - the orchestration of all those singers must've been ridiculous.
Thank you so much for sharing that - I am sure I will re-visit when I need a little inspiration or just need to go to a happy place for a while!

Kev
Kev - Very nicely done - you have an excellent voice. The lyrics are excellent by Liz and your performance is excellent.
Keep on fighting man ! A very moving song.
I wrote one about the same topic for friends of mine - this is a link to it on You Tube - performed by Phill Williams

Thanks for sharing your work as well as your courage in your battle.
Jim
So my strategy is - my wife won't notice if I just replace one of the older ones on the guitar stands with a new one and put the older one in a case out of sight for a while. Then it's a month or so later and when asked - " hey did you buy a another new guitar?" I just reply - "nah - i've had that one a while" ![]()
I recall reading a couple of lines off some guitar T-shirts that go.....
" Go On - Buy it - you can always get another wife!"
or
Dear God
Now I lay me down to sleep , I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake, please don't let my wife sell the guitars for what I told her I paid for them! ![]()
But seriously - my wife is very understanding and as long its bought with money that I stashed from odd jobs I've done or coaching pay - she really doesn't care - besides that - the value of her shoes collection is more than my guitars I fancy. ![]()
My biggest wish is that my guitar playing ability was equal to the quality of my guitars
and heaven knows if it was - I too would be a true guitaraholic as well.
If guitar stores made a rule that you have demonstrate excellent ability before they could sell it to you I would be SOL ! ![]()
Cheers and good health to everyone

That is a great observation - must be why I liked his artwork so much (although I must admit the same as Bill - I really never knew or paid attention to his name) - I love paintings that make no sense or have conflicting components - they require you let your brain get out of the paradigms its in -
his artwork on the cover usually reflected the creativity of the musical artistry of the sound within the album. Guess that's why he only drew for the best.
Thanks for sharing this great introspection.
Jim
TF
That is hysterical - great tongue in cheek humor by your Dad - I love it!

Bill
I use the transpose to get me to the easiest way for me to play - comfortable chords. Then after I get it down sometimes I'll go back to the original chords.
As far as getting it in a range for my voice ----- Lmao - It really doesn't matter cause I can't sing for a hoot anyways. I'm sure it's important for real musicians however.
I use the capo a bit when I'm trying to get a certain sound - for instance when I play Galway Girl By Steve Earle I move it to 5th fret to get a Mandolin/Uke sound.
Congrats on getting settled in your new digs. Always a pleasure to hear from you and Dondra.
Best wishes to you both.
Jim
That's great Phill !
Enjoy the lavish time with your wife !
I am finding it very difficult to get a good night's rest - can't imagine what it's like for you !
Heal quickly my friend.
Maybe next year you and I can play rounders on bikes ! ![]()
Jan
very nice !!!
Hope you heal quickly !!
Jim
OMG PHILL
I've always said you and I were on the same page ! Now I know its true ![]()
Tuesday I went to go for a BIKE RIDE - As I went to get on and LAUNCH MYSELF OVER THE Bar using the peddle -(as I had done 10,000 times since I was 7 years old ) the chain gave way and I went ass over teakettle much the same as you did. When I came down the crossbarwas waiting for me. I fractured two ribs along with a small gash on my ankle. I can still do some stuff- but there is no position that doesn't hurt and sleep is almost impossible. Then today, I did just as Phill suggested -I got stupid - thought I was 25 instead of 65 --- forgot I have the rib injury and while coaching my soccer team tried to perform a move - might better have stuck a knife in my chest - it would have been less painful!
Damn Pride seems to always get in my way. Yours sounds a lot worse than mine however..... I wish you a speedy recovery Phill.
And may Ann fulfill your every wish - body massages and tenderness AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE !
Heal quick my friend !
TF
Slick playing !
I actually listened to # 22, 23 as well.
I was reading below in comments - did he play with YES ?
Looked like he was so enjoying the playing as well.
Thanks for sharing

That was the exact problem I had on the guitar that i tried to from scratch.
The low E string was fine down at the pickup end of the neck, but close to the edge of the neck up by the nut.
On the high E string it was just the opposite. What I had to do was adjust the angle of the saddle and Bridge.
That made the spacing correct. However I still can't great sound out of it - too much vibration in strings. I think it has to do with poor placement of fret bars.
It was my first (and only ) attempt at guitar building..... and I did it without any knowledge of guitars at the time. I may try to build a new one this inter now that i actually understand how an electric guitar works. good luck with your project.
Have you been performing at all ? Haven't seen any new videos of late.
Take care
Jim
Mojo
haha I just looked it up --- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVjdMLAMbM0 great song. SRV is awesome.
It sure was a close, but unintended match of lyric !
You are right about people giving aid - although the Texas Rangers Baseball organization didn't shine too well they way they treated the astros regarding moving games.
Hope your job "deployment" goes well for you.
Even though you are away - keep in touch on chordie - I love your songs, lyrics and comments !!

Peatle
Elton John (or John Elton) interview was terrific! Too funny
Thanks for the laugh
Jim

Can't help but think there is a song in there with how you posted that title ...... I was just sitting here thinking about the opening line,,,,,
well it's raining here in Texas, don't know when it will end
well it's flooding here in Texas, gonna need some help my friends
I hope there is no further loss of life. With all the other dumbass stuff going on in our country, maybe we can instead focus on helping the good folks of Texas recover.
Best wishes and prayers to all of the Texans that are suffering.
Jim
it is just awful. Prayers and thoughts are with you Mojo and all the good people of the Lone Star State and surrounding areas.
Stay Safe !!
Jim
That was an incredible musical performance.
What a group of talent. They were so into that second song - it was like the music was just pouring out of their souls.
Thanks for sharing!
Badeye - I don't how you find all these great performances - it certainly is enriching!
Jim
That was fantastic.
I learned so much.
and most of all - I would so much like to spend a couple days hanging out with Joe Walsh- he is sooo funny and cool.
Thanks for sharing Phill and TF.
Bill
Is it easier playing Bass guitar since you have so ability and experience as a drummer ?
Beautiful set up !
Jim
TF
He is in his own world when he is playing for sure, and his playing ability is definitely out of this world !
So darned good - I'm so green with envy !
Thanks for sharing
Jim
Thanks TF - nah - not me.
I listened to that song - Damn Right I got the Blues that Badeye posted and I got messing around with Blues chords and this popped in my head. ![]()
Here is a soundcloud version I recorded today - https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/it-dont-matter
it needs someone that actually can sing and play to do it justice I think.
Thanks for the kind words though.
