Re: first amp? (7 replies, posted in Electric)
Firt amp I had was strung together by my friend who was teaching me. He had some kind of amp head. not very powerful, but we then took normal electrical wire form somewhere and ran it to a 12 inch speaker, sat that right on the open top rim of my round hamper. (Now that was GHETTO!)
After that I saved up for a amp I wish I had kept. it was one of the early CRATE amps. still had the orange crate construction. it had two volume controls and bass mid treble. Due to it being very clean, http://www.jedistar.com/images/crate_amp.jpg My face plate was green but this was it. LOLOL bought it at a pawn shop. I also bought my very first two stomps. both by ROSS (now long gone) a Ross dist. and a Ross chorus. both analog. Here is a link to a Ross v/s Boss test. Keep in mind the Ross stuff was priced around 30 to 40 bucks or so. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq90AWunLBU and this was the dist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqBIqD8zqy4

live long and prosper....nanoo nanoo
Picard- "He just kept talking in one long incredibly unbroken sentence moving from topic to topic so that no one had a chance to interrupt it was really quite hypnotic."
"This is becoming a speech."
Riker- "You're the captain, sir. You're entitled."
Picard- "Hmm...I'm not entitled to ramble on about something everyone already knows."
and for a classic --

If you like the hocky stick then look at the Kramer Focus 1000 and some Deans. The head stocks are actually called hocky stick. http://shredguitars.com/collections/dat … /focus.JPG
Yep I loved my striker, It fell victim to early 20s and no job, had to hawk it to get some uniform stuff to play rent a cop. Never made it back to the pawn shop ![]()

Re: Brand of Electric Guitar (32 replies, posted in Electric)
Well put, Beamer ... if it fits, it fits.
I noticed that Ibanez is also using a lot of that H-S-H pickup configuration on their S-Series guitars, with the 5-way switch you describe. I'll bet it gives you a whole range of sounds without touching your amp or a pedals. The Kramer Striker is a cool looking axe, and they appear to be excellent value for the money.
I had the 600 here is an old pic of it if you can see it, otherwise if you FB then you can friend me and have a look. Oh an I was mistaken it was a H S S. w/ the togel switches. you could do a lot with that configuration sound wise. but man I saw the white guitar and the profile. I fell in love. I just pointed and said that one.
I like the slant on the humbucker also,, just looked sexy.

this model is hard to find nowdays,, and they are not that low priced when you do. Have seen a few being asked for in the 600 range. thats a bout what it was new with huge case!

Re: Brand of Electric Guitar (32 replies, posted in Electric)
Fortunately, the field has broadened a bit in recent years. At one time, a person bought Gibson / clones if they wanted the humbucking sound, or Fender / clones if they liked the single coil sound. A number of manufacturers are now making very good instruments with coil-tapping pickups, so one can get the best of both worlds in one guitar. This feature isn't quite as good as either of the purebred HB's or SC, but they are still quite good.
It's also worth noting that some of the off-shore clones have gotten quite good, with Squier (Fender) and Epiphone (Gibson) being very reasonable and affordable facsimiles of the parent company. My EP Les Paul Custom Pro has their new ProBucker pickups w/ coil tapping, and I really like them ... a lot hotter and not nearly as muddy as their previous humbuckers. Other serious contenders like PRS and Ibanez are also building high-quality and innovative instruments.
It all comes down to a person's sound preference, and more importantly the feel (ergonomics) of the instrument in your hands.
The day I bought my Kramer Striker, I looked at it, and said it feels as good as it looks, its sold. it just "fit", and it sounded great! HsH w/ 5 way and coil tap and in and out of phase switching. yep it came home with me that day.
wish I still had it!

Two things you never forget.(1) The first real song you play all the way through. (not the choral or happy birthday from the mel bay book but an actual rock song that you love) (2) The first time you bite into a McDonalds hot apple pie. Before they warned you that it was filled with hot lava.
#2 LOLOLOLOLOL man they even changed the pie! so as not to have that happen. I miss the fried pie, but I always got cherry, I like my lava red LOLOLOLOL

Re: String Bending (8 replies, posted in Electric)
My two cents,,, use index finger to barr the A. open A stringand press down D n G, dont worry about the high notes. With electric its not that noticeable (to me anyway) On the D chord, its tips and light pressure. or if your playing rock and roll, just mute yout high e and not play it, just use your index and 3rd fingers. ( that is how I do it anyway, I play my electrics a tad more than acoustic.)
