I don't think it's going to make it onto the stamp.

Well now you've got a new place from which to improve.  It could have been worse.  You could have been the stage hand that bumped a dolly into the risers and caused the rear legs of the chairs of six trombone players to fall off the back of the risers, having nearly the whole low brass section landing in a heap of tangled arms, chairs, and bent slides.  I was the trombone player who didn't fall because I was playing a bass trombone and was seated with the tubas, so the good news was that the rest of the concert was one big low brass solo for me.

Good to know.  I wish I could mail one to my mom.

Best line so far: "You hear this on commercials on TV a lot.  They get some guy that claims he can play the blues and he gets up and plays some pattern.  Now let's see how we can take those patterns and turn them into something that sounds like music."

It's sponsored by D'Addario and Guitar.com.

This is the first part of a three part lesson.  I haven't had time to go through the whole thing, but if you like acoustic blues and don't like Taj Mahal, then you don't like acoustic blues.  He's a wonderful musician, but he's also extremely versatile in his playing and very knowledgeable on many features of world music and music history.

You might not learn a lot about how to play, but you'll learn a lot of history and how different techniques relate to it for a deeper appreciation.

There is also a series by B.B. King I haven't looked at yet.

I have number of song seeds.  My head just doesn't have the right soil for planting them.  It seems that it's filled with rocks.

Hey Doc.  You've worked with some of the big bands and been back stage.  All we know is what we've read about, but you were present for some of those shenanigans.  I can't say as it's quite as rampant.  From what little I've seen of pro gigs, there's still a lot of booze, but according to my friend who sings lead and writes for a punk band and tours with some other punk bands they stay clean drug-wise.  (unless you want to quibble about booze being a drug)

Guitarpix, Roger Guppy, and several others are whizzes when it comes to adjustments and repairs.  Hopefully one of them will chime in soon.  Good luck getting the guitar sorted out.

I'd like to be a songwriter.  I just haven't had much luck with it.

Motion changes emotion. I took a walk long enough to blister my feet and feel much better.

How about...

My mood is mean and nasty, you don't want me around.
I say my mood is mean and nasty, you don't want me around.
If there was a chance for feeling better
You know it'd never be found.

I've been in a mean and nasty mood for much of the day.  I'm wondering what songs I should play to make it go away.  Maybe I should make a blues song.

My mood is mean and nasty
I say, my mood is mean and nasty
If you don't go away soon
Something that rhymes with nasty

FanTAStic.

Topdown and Southpaw convinced me to play down in Florida.  That most of the people there were Chordie folks didn't hurt.  I still haven't gotten around to going to an open mic in my own area.  At the campground this weekend, my buddy and I spent a lot of time playing guitar.  Our campsite was right by a path leading to a good fishing spot at the lake we camped by, so we had folks walking through our campsite all weekend.  We had a few times when folks stopped and sang along and even had some dancers.  That felt pretty good.

I'm so happy for you that you played out.  That deck thing sounds really great.  Like something from a movie.

I guess you're just that controversial NELA.  :-)

Not me. I hope you have fun.

I am fairly poor at this too. Because I play songs on guitar more than playing the guitar itself, I just do whatever riff or passage or technique I'm trying to learn super duper slowly until I get it right then increase speed as my burgeoning skill permits.

This thread is a year old and popped back up by accident it seems.  We did this trip last July.  Galena was fun.  I used to live in Lansing and have been in Elderly Music a number of times.  It's an amazing shop.

for the most part, if I don't like the message, I don't listen to the song.  If the artist is reprehensible (not just unpleasant from time to time or someone who disagrees with me but someone who is truly reprehensible), then I do not partake of his/her art.

I can't think of any musicians who are reprehensible, but I'll never watch another Roman Polanski film after hearing of his serial rapes of under age girls.  That some of his peers encouraged and assisted this behavior by providing victims and venues to curry his favor is equally reprehensible.

There are exceptions with music.  Some songs are just so darned good that even if the message is a bit off, I still enjoy the song.
