Cover bands are OK. Tribute acts, not so much.

As others have said, if you want to play songs written by someone else, make it your own. You'll probably sound better being yourself.

When we got together in NY in August, Dirty Ed made a comment when I had finished City of New Orleans. He said; "You play it slightly different than what I'm used to." I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_3843.gif But it was my version and I'm stickin' to it. smile

Just a 110 plug will be fine. I don't use the water tanks in the camper.  We won't deploy the canopy, so it should only take up about as much space as your big truck.

I'll put you between my place and the pavilion.

Glad to hear you folks came through safe and sound.

Would it be OK to bring my camper? I'd probably want to mooch a plug-in too so I could have lights and a space heater.

Looks like Topdawgz and I are both planning to come, so I thought it would be easiest to bring our own beds and shelter.

It's a standard 110v plug?

Then yes. You can back in where everyone was parked in '15. I'll figure out other parking arrangements for folks. There's an outlet on the pole. There's also a water hydrant you can plug into.

I was up at camp over the Labor Day weekend. The above mentioned Jeff was there as well. He built a fire Sunday night and we sat down to play for awhile. Within about 15 minutes we had 12 people sitting around listening. Turns out 3 of them were also musicians. One of them used to play in a bluegrass band. He's coming and bringing his banjo and mandolin. The other 2 play guitar and will be coming as well. So there are now 6 local musicians.

Let's hope this string of hurricanes ends and we have a nice dry weekend.

I've been closely watching this storm for 2 days. I was hoping to hear you say something like that.

Good luck and check in when you get a chance.

Unfortunately, it now looks like Irma is going to be knocking on your door as well.  Stock up and stay safe.

And it looks like Jeff has a great big bulls eye painted on his place.

Just wanted to wish Jeff (topdown) all the best as Hurricane Irma barrels through his neck of the woods.

Stay safe Jeff.

This requires a slightly longer explanation than some of you.

When I moved 100 miles away from home I didn't know anyone. Met a couple people from my apt complex and they invited me to a weekly Sunday afternoon volleyball game. There was a guy there that almost immediately started calling me Uncle Joe and others picked it up.

Fast forward 4 years. Met a guy who had this thing about calling his male friends "Dad" and female friends "Mom." One day he referred to me as dad and then thought about it for a few seconds. He said; "No, you're not a dad kinda person. You're more like an uncle, Uncle Joe." So now I had it from two completely different circles. It stuck and I'm known as Uncle Joe just about anywhere I go. I even introduce myself that way sometimes to new acquaintances. Folks seem to remember that.

Fast forward a couple more years. There was a small group of us that got together almost every weekend to make music. My wife at the time worked at an assisted living facility. One day she came home and asked if we would consider playing for the residents. A couple weeks later and there we were, 3 guys on guitar and two girls singing. We were getting close to the hour we had and one of the residents asked what we called ourselves. We all looked at each other with this blank look. Since we played mostly Grateful Dead I finally broke the silence and said Uncle Joe's Band, which is a play on words from the Dead's song Uncle Johns Band. I discovered online forums around '07 and started using UncleJoe as a screen name. When I found Chordie a few years ago UncleJoe was taken so I used Unclejoesband.

Hi Oldbikes,

I believe you'll find that there are a number of us here that put the guitar away for a spell and pulled it back out later in life. Me, I had a 20 year sabbatical and picked it up again almost three years ago. It's a tough road back but you'll get there.

Welcome to Chordie

I'm 59 going on 29. I guess there's a lesson to be learned here. But since I still climb trees for a living, I'll probably skip class on the day of that lesson and pay for it the same way you did.

Hope you heal up quickly.

It's that time of year again. Warm days and cool nights in the mountains of Central Pa.

Oct. 6, 7 & 8, 2017

Enter Blain, Pa. into your favorite map program or GPS. I'll pass the actual address along privately but Blain will get you within 3 miles.

I'll have food and drink (to be determined) but if liquor is your thing you'll need to bring it along. Since I don't drink it, I don't know all the different types of liquor and what is quality or junk. Sorry.

I know of at least 3 locals so far that are coming.

There is an addition to the overnight accommodations. Jim and Amy will recall Jeff from last year, the modest local guy with the incredible voice and the $3500 Taylor. He bought the camp behind me and offered to put people up for the night. Here is a snip from the email he sent me.

"We do have the couch, a queen size and single inflatable bed if someone needs and are ok with Dexter."
Dexter is a big, lovable, 85lb German Shepard. If you give him a little scratch, you'll never get rid of him. http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_3851.gif Very people friendly. The nearest decent motel is close to 30 miles away. The local country store closes at 8:00PM and is closed all day  Sunday. The closest gas is 10 miles away and is also closed Sunday. Yeah we're kind of out in the sticks. Keep an eye out for Amish buggy's. They're doing 10mph on a curvy 50mph road.

Here is a playlist from 2015. It was a beautiful weekend.

And here is a playlist from 2016. It rained all weekend and we were confined to the indoors.

Were going to hope for a repeat of 2015.

Ours was only 75% but well worth the time. I shot a video of the whole thing; 35:00. There was some light cloud cover but the sun/moon did poke through a few times. Then the heavy clouds moved in and that was the end for me. I trimmed the video down to just over 4:00.

Yep. I have a bad habit (I think) that I can't seem to break.

I learned the G chord using my index, ring and middle fingers. I eventually dropped the middle finger for the pinky on the high E. For the last couple years I've been trying to drop the index finger and use the other 3 for the chord which would free up the index for little bass fills. But it hasn't been going very well.

Still going through everything. Here's one that didn't need any work except trimming a little off the ends.

Here's another one. Raw. No editing.  You're welcome Jim. smile
