That's great encouragement.  Keep up the good work.  Get out and play with as many folks as you can as often as you can.

I felt so elated after leaving the Doctors yesterday that I went and bought a new Maton 12 stringer (model EM425c for those that want to check it out on the Maton website) so happy NGD for Bushy.

Exceptionally good sense, sir.  Happy NGD.

People do hunt with assault weapons.  The features that make a rifle into an "assault weapon" have nothing to do with their power.  One of the 'assault weapons' commonly shown is exactly the same rifle that has been the most popular hunting rifle for beginner hunters for many years except it's a different color and has a different stock on it.  There's no difference whatsoever in its power or usefulness for one purpose or another.  The term is a made-up term intended to cause an emotional response and has little to do with the rifles themselves.

However, I agree with you on the rest.  I think the mother was extremely reckless to have firearms stored in a house with a child who had violent tendencies.  Legal?  Yep.  Smart?  No.  Not really.

In the movies, it is an affectation meant to represent a lack of education.  It is not a new kind of language, it is incorrect use of an existing language.  For the record, that sort of mis-use is common throughout Appalachia and is not reserved to black Americans.  Also for the record, there are many black Americans who speak English well.  It has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with education and respect for language.

Thats pretty bad, they can not get a budget,it is almost time again and they may raise the debt ceiling again which will but us in dire straights,I have also heard they will phase all old style light bulbs out soon for the expensive and not so bright bulbs.

They're already three months late.  The federal government fiscal year runs from October to September.  They've been running without a budget since October 1, just extending the previous year's budget, which was also just an extension of the previous year's budget.  The last fiscal year to be operating with a budget was President Bush's final budget that was in operation when President Obama started.

That sounds great for Saturday.  Have you talked to Toney about Sunday open mic?  What time does that usually get kicked off?

You folks on Chordie have done much to improve my last several years, and I pray that each of you will make it through with me to 2014 at least.

I play AT the harmonica.  I did the most practicing I ever did in the car on my commutes.  I kept a CD of songs that I liked in the car and when I got to a stop light, I'd switch over from radio the CD and play my harmonica along with it.  I highly recommend getting one of David Harp's books on harmonica.  I think they're the simplest to understand and that he has the quickest route to competence.

Through work, I had a Long Term Disability Insurance policy that will pay me 60% of my salary. I have also had to sign up on Social Security Disability.
This is not something I wanted to do but I guess I'm lucky that I had the insurance policy and Social Security available for me.

I understand that this is not what you wanted, and I agree that you're lucky.  You're lucky in a way that I call making your own luck.  That insurance policy was a part of what you worked so hard for all those years.  It's as much a part of your compensation as your take home pay was.  Further, though the government would disagree, that Social Security is also part of what you worked for.  That stuff is yours just the same as if you had gotten the cash and paid for the policy yourself, or stashed it away in a rainy day fund through the years.  Don't feel any guilt whatsoever for not working to get your income now, because you ALREADY worked to get it.  You earned it.  Let yourself enjoy the free time, even while recognizing it's not your preference.  Check the quotes in my signature.  Never apologize for what you worked hard to get.

Flight is booked.  I'm coming into Tampa on Friday 2/22 with an arrival time of 1:34pm on God-forsaken Delta.

I don't have any advice, but wanted to wish you good luck with the effort.  If you're taking votes on favorites, The Paddle, River Morning, If I Were The Wind, and Riding With the Man are my all time Dirty Ed favorites.

There are two bright sides to this story.  First is that medicine has developed to the point they were able to do that work without breaking open your breast bone.  It's simply amazing what they can do, and it's wonderful that you have received the benefit of those advances.  It's not so great that you were in a situation where you had to, but isn't it great that it was there for you when you needed it.

The second bright side is you got a helicopter ride.  That's not as good as the first, but it's got bright blinky lights and a powerful engine and so what former schoolboy doesn't like helicopters?

Get well and good luck with recovery.  We'll be praying for you here.

I have no advice, except to start slowly and build up in speed over time.  I've been playing one musical instrument or another for the past 37 years, and I still practice with a metronome, and I still get frustrated by it.  The metronome is your best friend and your worst enemy.

Remember that when you're practicing, go as slowly as you have to to get the phrase you're practicing perfect.  When you get it perfect a few times in a row, then increase the speed a very little bit.  Once you get your speed up to 80 or 90 beats per minute, then you can start increasing your speed in bigger jumps.  You can maybe go to 110 or 120 bpm from 90.  Precision is much more important than speed, and the metronome keeps you honest on the speed.

Good luck.  If your timing is weak, them you've done the very smartest thing you could have done.  Good for you.  Keep up the good work.

Well, if God expects me to play a harp, to heck with that, I'm still working on my guitar skills....so there.

If God had wanted us to play harps, he'd have given us fingers.  No wait...   that's not it.

As eager as I always am to meet up with Dirty Ed, I am very eager to meet his wife.  He has had so many wonderful things to say about her through the years that she can be nothing shy of an angel.  Eager to meet Wayne too.

Very exciting.  Thanks Jeff and Paul for kicking this off.  This event will be enough to keep me practicing the next couple of months.  I hope Marty and Toots can make it.

I'm in.  Time off work is approved.  The trip is wife approved.  All that's left is to book the flight.  Now let's see - two Hawaiian shirts, a pair of swim trunks, and some sandals.  Packing list complete.

Any song that would not get air play but for the word "Christmas" in it annoys me.

I'm hoping to fly home on Thursday.  I've got to drive down to Roanoke, VA to use them, which is about 150 miles, but it's through pretty country on a road I know well.

That's cool.  We river rats have a hard time trusting folks with banjos.

It was also the instrument used in the original Star Trek theme song.

That would be fun to play with.  I'm eager to hear your work with it.

Santa Claus is coming to town, wearing a brown UPS suit.

Best prices I've found is Allegiant Air into Tampa, for what it's worth.  I don't know anything about Allegiant Air, but at 1/3 the cost of anyone else, I'll find out soon enough.
