yep! that's a cracker. i think we've all done the dance with the traffic warden, i managed to get out of a ticket in Swansea once because Ann, my other half was pregnant at the time. in my town, (Llanelli), i've never managed to get away with anything!

i like this and hope to hear it as a song one of these fine days?

I've always gone with "start with an easy one" just to settle any nerves. When I saw you were going to jam on the first song I was a little nervous for you, I try to avoid solos and such till I settle down. Still, glad you got through it unscathed and you're looking forward to doing it again....shame about the Sony, I would have taped the first gig just to see the weak points not for public display....unless it was really good, which is why you never see me live on you-tube  lol

so many of the members that were regular contributors when i joined (seems like years ago now) have fallen by the wayside. most just stopped posting for their own reasons, toots is the first i know of that have sadly passed on to a (hopefully) better place.

my condolences to his family and all the members that knew him in person and through chordie like me.

RIP TOOTS, you will live on through your posts and the music you made.

the title of your post enthralled me so i had to have a look....to be honest i thought it was the name of a band or a song title!

that rail trip sounds brill, must try it if i ever get to cross the pond.

this has to be one of the best poems i've seen in a very long time.

while i was reading i kept substituting "DOWN" for "BELOW" and on the last verse "HIGH" for "ABOVE". i hope you don't mind me making suggestions?

apart from that your use of words is fantastic.

that's another beauty my friend. to be honest it reads like a poem, more than that, a love poem, pity it didn't give you the nudge before valentines day, you'd have been on major brownie points. waiting for the recording, i'd love to hear this great tune you refer to, i'd rather listen to how you feel it than put my own musings to it. well done again.

hi jim. i think it's one of tham thar bugs that need sorting and will be sorted as time allows.

thanks for the comments. when i read jims words i could see a potential. jim has a special way of writing, especially his choruses. all i did was take his song and added my.... whatever it's called? to it. i think we make a good partnership in this respect.
it's not actually in Dbm, it's still in E, but when i sing "change" it goes to Dbm to give the song an extra push. it would be easier to play in the key of C or G where you'd play Am or Em respectively ( for those still petitioning for the banning of B chords).... sorry couldn't resist that one.

well done jim you are blossoming as a song writer

i must be honest, i have not been much of a sure fan since one let me down mid way through a performance in front of a substantial audience! i use a beyer now which is good and clear for stage work.
i bought just this week a condenser mic from amazon cost me just £20 (add $10 for the exchange rate i'd expect) i just looked at the box but cant find a maker but when it sounds that good who cares? it comes with an XLR (female) to a stereo mini jack (male) it's quite heavy and seems sturdy for the price. check it out.

welcome to chordie

Which one did you get, Phill?  I'm really fond of AKGs as well.  Low cost, sound great.

It's a better dynamic TG_X60. Or were you referring to the condenser? No idea of the maker, just that it's got Chinese writing on the box. If it lasts a year it's OK at that price I ll just buy another.

hi grah, i was going to make a joke about e-bay, but i know how selling your gear off is akin to selling your kids into slave labour. my wife keeps on at me to sell my old stuff eg; mixers, amps, guitars, mics, 8 track digi recorder, keyboards etc, but it's just too painful. i've even got a windows 95 PC in the attic...i know i'm just a sad old fart.

just a thought; seeing as you're planning to get a bigger place, you could leave bits and pieces at friends homes until you've moved?

Thanks both, I shall now enjoy using the mic.

Thanks also for the info Doug, a cannon connector would go to a speaker. I'm not going to infer the age excuse this time, it was late when I posted and was tired. First time I tried it I couldn't get it to work cos I pushed the wrong button, which makes me a dick. Got it right eventually. This means I can now use my fender F90 and 12 er.
Thanks again.

yes, after much procrastinating i've bit the bullet and bought a new mic which is a dedicated recording mic, for me anyway.

russ posted some time ago that he had done something similar but with all the trimmings. mine came with a sock, one of those springy things that avoid vibration and a lead with a cannon plug one side and a mini stereo jack on t'uther...so annoying. and as it's a condenser it needs phantom power, which is no problem, but before i go into full swing could anyone tell me if it will affect my mixer in any way? also, do i need to turn off phantom to record guitar/keyboards etc?

you help will be greatly appreciated.

hey pete, i posted on here a few days ago but it seems it hasn't taken or something....i guess it's the new format or something? thing is, i added some chords and a suggestion on how you might play it and the darn thing has left my mind completely! it's that age thing again...

Walking around the supermarket.
Before you head out to the checkout of life.
Deciding what's good what's right.
Knowing what the price is.
Little voices
Yelling at you now is only once.
Now is only once.

i think i found that the rhythm suggested a 3/4 waltz time, and if you notice the changes i've made? it will make it easier to sing.

please don't think i'm bullying you into doing it "my way" i'm just offering a little help. if you like it please use it, if not scrap it, i'm no tim rice and i don't know everything.

good luck, like the theme and the way you've written it.

i play a peavy bandit which i've had years and years. i had the same or similar prob with noise, turned out to be the reverb knob. just turned it off....sorted.

it may not be the same problem. also check if the power lead has gone near the speaker or connecting leads.
