Got my capo, and started working.  The first 2 chords I got down cold with a reasonable strumming pattern.

the 2 bar chords in the chorus well not so good, but still working on it.  Just cant figure out where to place ye olde digits for those.

But my wife was impressed with the first verse!  I will work on those other parts again tomorrow any suggestions?

The sales man (a kid really)  said that this company manufactured other companies guitars and decided to make their own label.  He said something about some of the features like Grover tuners.  I dont know what grover tuners are but he said they are nice, and he said the electronics in the tuner and "pick up"  were top noch.

He was not pushing the guitar, but rather explaining the features, and this one sounded good.

I really liked the way the 400.00 fender looked, but I liked the built in tuner and stuff.

I was at the local music store today trying to figure out what I wanted in a guitar.

I though the built in tuner was nice, and I wanted something that the wood looked nice.

I ran into 2 guitars that I had never heard of.  One was a samick it looked nice and had the tuner, was acustic electric, and was 250 - 300.  Seemed like a good price

At another place i saw a takamine that also looked nice for the price. just under 200 for acoustic electric.  I dont remember if it had a tuner.

There was also a really pretty fender, but it was just acoustic and 400 and change.

Do we know anthing about the samick?

Wow thats a lot to digest.  I appreciated the assistance.  I found where you can tune it up or down and get the appropriate chords.

I do not fully understand because the D G C translation that is the default does not sound right at all.  All I have is my ears to judge bc I am very much a novice.

So if I tune it +2 and play E A and D version it will sound like I am using the Capo and doing what the guy in the video does?  or are they the fingerings I need to use using a capo?

Thanks again for helping I am dying to play this song.  It is one my kids know and they would really thing it was cool if I could play it.

Get one of those Esteban learning CD's.

My friend gave me his and he starts you with stuff like that working on arpeggios and playing them with the correct fingers.

When I learn a new chord I practice chord changed and arpeggiating (sp) the chord makes you more aware of where the strings are.

I started playing a few weeks ago and was going to buy one of those as well. As it turns out by buddy started out with one of those, and he loaned me his he now has a few guitars and dug this one out of the closet.  I use it for practice every day and it seems ok and it has a LOT of mileage on it.   The DVD's are interesting too (he still had them)

I too found about this site from this message board. The lessons are well explained, and you can hear the lesson 100 times a day if you want to.

Honstly I dont mind paying for good content.  Additionally I travel a lot and it is really convenient.

I think the cost was 130.00 for a year.  I could not get a month of lessons for that.

Others have linked to the you tube videos of this site.  I signed up there was no fee to do so, but there is stuff you can buy.  There are a bunch of  video lessons and a bunch of song tutorials.

I have been playing for 2 weeks and using the site I was able to make my way through some songs.

Any way I found some useful stuff there.  Hope it helps someone else.

Thanks for the direction.

I the whole CD is great.  I am dying to get far enought to be able to play a song.  I can sing all of those pretty well so will be really fun once i can put a few chords together.

I am trying to figure out the strumming patterns now, but for such a newbie is is a real challenge.  You dont happen to have the  strumming pattern figured out for home yet do you?

Can somone give me some strumming patterns that are common?  Are there common strumming patterns?  Guess I am not sure there is such a thing, but it seems like there would be.

I am absolutely new to the guitar, but do read music but do understand 1/2 1/8 1/16 ect.   It is the up strum and down strum and how they are mixed that seems to excape me.  The up strum feels strange and mine sounds terrible.

Now I hope I have asked a question that makes sense.

Thanks

Bruce

When reading chord charts what does it mean if there is an x over the string?  Does this mean you avoid them when strumming?

Thanks
