i know the feeling, but lately i've been writing or recording a song, and when it starts getting sticky or same-ee, i leave it and go back next day. though it never comes out the same...

what do you mean not like UK cops? i got pulled on an empty road, miles of visibility doing (according to the cop) 76 MPH in a 60 MPH limit. cretin gave me 2 choices 3 points on my license and 100 pound fine or 85 pounds and sit through 8 hours of finger wagging...i paid the 85. but what a ****** he must have been bored

hi EB, like your song, saw there was no chords so i picked up the guitar and a tune and chords came quite fast, if you like i can do a scratch recording and email it to you, i wont be offended if you'd rather do it yourself. email me your email address if you'd like to hear it.

the songs actually in E.

intro; E-A-B-E||

verse; B-E-B-E-F#-A-B-E

chorus;  A-B-A-B-A-B-E|

solo; E-F#-A-B-E

great song, by the way, fab solo. i played it up the arm on the 7th frett for E & F#, in A shape, and B & A in E shape. you could also put the capo on 4th frett and play E in C shape, B in G shape and F# in D shape, the A would then be in F shape.

hope this helps.

having read through your words it kinda reminded me of wagon trains and the land rush, i read your header after reading the song, i shall give it a listen ASAP.

very nice jeff, yep, still think it's a pioneering song though, things cant have changed that much in 200 years, eh? big_smile

just a note; the Em7/9 that i play is not as shown in the diagram, i play (more or less) a G chord playing D on the B string and playing the open E on the E string, so the chord name i have given it is wrong?

oh and it's a waltz

you'll find the track here;    https://soundcloud.com/tags/folk

Sorry if this is a little depressing, but my sons wife has just up and left him without a word, well she left him a letter, took his young son and all the furnature but no explination as to why. This is the way my mind works things out.

Away In A Day. Undefined

[D] Remember that day by the [Em7/9] river?

Where the [C] willows were [G] heavy with [D] leaves.

And the sun made it's way 'cross the [Em7] heavens.

And you [C] promised your [G] love just for [D] me.

If [Bm] only I [Bm/A] knew what I [Bm/Ab] know now, [G] then.

I could've [Em] saved myself all of this [A7] pain.

Through the [D] good and the bad times.

The [Em7] love and the hate.

Like a [C] fool I would [G] do it [D] again.

I haven't the heart to forget [Em7] you.

You've [C] been a big [G] part of my [D] life.

I'll never forget what you've [Em7] done for me.

And I'll [C] never [G] forgive all your [D] lies.

If [Bm] only I [Bm/A] knew what I [Bm/Ab] know now, [G] then.

I could've [Em] saved myself all of this [A] pain.

Through the [D] good and the bad times.

The [Em7] love and the hate.

Tell you [C] dear I would [G] do it [D] again.

[Bm] Heaven [Bm/A] forgives yet the [Bm/Ab] sin is still [G] there.

But you [Em] sinned against me not the [A7] God up above.

The [D] love that I thought would be [Em7] there all our lives.

You've [C] thrown it [G] away in a [D] day.

You've [C] thrown it [G] away in a [D] day.

here's another thought, pick each string on an open note then again at the octave (12th frett) they should sound the same just an octave higher. there is also harmonics but unless you know what i'm on about then it's just more confusion for you. sorry, i have no wish to sound like a clever dick, but it takes a while to learn how to play harmonics even though once you've got it it's a piece of cake. search for "tuning by harmonics"

i noticed this problem with a friends guitar, he put strings on that were too light. i would recommend a 12 guage set for acoustic guitar any lighter and they would bend too much while strumming. only a thought. welcome to chordie

hi ark, i guess that's just a fact of life these days. buskers are usually honest musicians providinb a service. not like the the hustlers on street corners conning the simple minded with their "rigged" games.

thanks artie.

hi jim, my wife would be happy if i didnt play or sing, except for gigs of course.

thanks to all that took the time to listen and comment.

i've seen that before in bulgaria, sunny beach i think, where live music has to be dead quiet and finnish at 11 or 12 PM, but night clubs and rave parties and disco's(?) can go on till the early hours and as loud as they like....and all recorded crap, the world has become sick

there are some strong emotions expressed here.

i was forced to watch last nights Xfactor while i ate my curry, i burnt my throat trying to shovel it down my neck as fast as i could!

what do that crowd of so called judges hear that i miss? they must see pretty faces first, slim bodies second then the voice comes a poor third. the saving grace is that next year they'll all have dissappeared again into obscurity, and the ones that survive will be game show or reality show hosts...thats your fate Xfactors.

rant over, they said guitar groups were finnished (to the beatles) then the beatles took ove the world, and we still know them and their songs today. i watched pink floyd in new york on tv the other day and the auditorium was packed. status quo regularly fill out stadiums. ok you may argue that neither band is a heavy metal group, but if YES can fill up a cruise ship every year, that tells me rock in any of it's "pure" forms is alive and kicking. it's just progressing, evolving and getting stronger.

ark, i wanted to write more last night, but my curry was calling. that arpeggio riff kept playing in my head all night. the bongos were just right. in fact the whole piece is teriffic and worthy of a film sound track.

grah, duhhhh, i do know my geography, even if i cant spell it...I, T?

honestly i was trying to inject a little irony.

we get similar problems down here in wales where councils are forcing pubs that have live music nights to employ licensed bouncers, effectively doubling the cost of a nights entertainment. they're just money grabbers, they seem to forget that councils were created for the benefit of people not the opposite

if i enterpret your song correctly, it's about how music has changed since the rock and roll era. then again about cambodia (i think it was) pol pot, ditching technowlogy and starting over at year 1 (except for himself of course)

the movies always paint a rosey picture, the only death that seems to matter is the hero...

so, very thought provoking jeff, full marks
