I played a song a while back (I think it was Don't forget to Remember Me, Carrie Underwood) and it had A/C#. What a pain! I played it with my index finger on 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings, and my pinky on the A string 4th fret. It was hard to get used to, but eventually it was clear enough. Main thing is this: You can do it. Your hand is able, it's just getting your muscles going right. With enough practice it'll sound as clear as G.

I've really always thought I was born at a pretty lucky time in history. But if I could visit, I like to watch the creation of the universe. Had to be something else. Also, it'd be amazing to be at the 1936 Olympics when Jesse Owens won four golds.

I love that! I think it's real. (But I'm very easily convinced.)

I agree with Joey and Zurf, nothing can be done now. (BTW, don't think you're the first to do something like this.) But, I will also say, my guitar shop would never even slightly slight me. I mean, I'd trust them to give me a deal, and I know they would. Sad that some people get a thrill out of cheating.

Thanks both of you. I will check my email when I get the chance, Beamer. smile

Hey, just a quick question:

Is there some licks that are more important to know than others, or are they all the same and I should just learn them all? And, if there are better licks to know, where can I find a list of them?

Thanks in advance!

(Hope this question makes at least a little sense smile .)

Awe, that's so thoughtful of you, Amy. Thanks a bunch. But, my Grandpa gave me one - I just don't have it installed yet. Plus, you should think about putting it on ebay. smile

I had an '97 Mazda that had no radio at all.  Just a blank plate where it would normally go. Five speed manual, vynl bench seats....  I'd spend an hour in silence on the way into work, and another hour in silence on the way back.

I loved that truck.

It does have it's benefits. And I do love my jeep.

That was so sweet. Thanks!

Haha, Zurf! It's a problem. My radio cut on one time playing Country Boy - Alan Jackson - clear as a whistle. But it only kept playing for like an hour. sad Thought about getting a new radio. Still may. Anyway, if I did have a cd in my car it'd probably be some Martina McBride or Lauren Alaina, or a new fav, Eden's Edge.

I'm kinda like you Jerome and don't play cds. But not exactly for the same reason. LOL, I drive an old Jeep - before the 'modern' age of cds. So it plays cassetts. Luckily, the Jeep came with about 5 tapes (Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Lone Star, etc.), but unluckily the tape player is broke sad. So I'm stuck with the radio, which is okay, but it only plays one station - and it's definitely not my favorite station... *Sigh* So I just sing. smile

Alright then. I should have stuck with my first answer. LOL. Glad to know for sure now. Thanks Zurf. Good luck Dean.

Haha, Zurf! For those of us who aren't so great at hearing music, we gotta go by the books. smile I can't find a hard core answer for what one key up from D would be. I found an article that said if you're playing in C one key up would be C#. That leads me now to think a key up from D would be Eb. Dunno, still looking.

Actually, I'm not sure about key ups. Experts??? Please help??

Yes. A typical A progression would be A-D-E. And, yes, now that I think of it, you would transpose to A. smile

Here are a couple of charts like Pete was talking about.

Key of G Major:
I    ii    iii    IV    V    vi    vii
Gmaj    Amin    Bmin    Cmaj    Dmaj    Emin    F#dim

Key of D Major:
I    ii    iii     IV     V      vi      vii
Dmaj    Emin    F#minGmaj Amaj Bmin C#dim

Gmaj is the I chord of Gmaj and the IV chord of Dmaj. Emin is the VI chord of Gmaj and the II chord of Dmaj, and so on.

Dean, I think you would transpose to E, but I'm not any good at music theory. I think Pete had a good definition for Modulation. Modulation is somewhat relative, if I'm correct. It depends on the listener, but there are a few rules to follow.
Modulation is when music changes keys (sometimes a temporary change for a mood change, or a permanent change 'grand finale'). For example, Any Man of Mine, Shania Twaine (got that in my head so I grabbed it) has a key change (grand finale) about two thirds into the song. It goes from Ab to Bb. This is a fairly easy key change because these two keys are closely related in the Circle of Fifths. These keys have a difference of two accidentals (Ab has four flatts and Bb has two flatts. 4-2=2) Ab and Bb have two chords in common, Eb and Bb. These two chords (Eb and Bb) would make good pivit chords. A pivit chord (like Pete explained) is a 'connecting' chord. The last chord before the Modulation. Most modulations last a couple of seconds, but that depends on the speed of the song (and modulation is really for the listener, so it also depends of when the listener notices the change.) Hope that helps, and be sure to not take all I say as Gospel, cause I'm wrong a lot! There are a couple of experts on here though, so they'll probably post in a bit. smile

Glad everyone had a good Easter. I really had a good one. Went to Church for a nice service, and then to the families, ate two dinners (which is really fun), went to evening service, came home and gonna play a little guitar. Good day all around!

Happy Easter everybody! Have a good one.

^That's what I was thinking. I think he meant to say and 'E' shape.
