OK. How about this?

I help moderate a homesteading forum. The admin has it set up so that if a new member (one with less than 10 posts) posts a message with a link in it, that message is automatically "bumped" into what they call moderation. No one can see it except the mods. We will then look at the post and decide if it's spam. If it is, it gets deleted and the offending party is banned before anyone else sees it. If it isn't, we can "approve" the post and it's visible to the entire board.

Not knowing the inner workings of this board, I don't know if you have that capability but thought I'd throw it out there. It works quite well for us and for the most part the spammers seemed to have moved on. Sure we still get one occasionally but nothing like we used to.

Would it be possible to implement a 24 hour waiting period before a new member has the privilege to post? I know a couple forums that are "read-only" for a short period of time. A bit of a pain for legitimate new members but the spammers may get frustrated taking the time to post if it never gets seen by anyone but the mods.

I must admit that I was never a big Grateful Dead fan, but this is terrific stuff ... thanks for the contribution, Uncle Joe!

A lot of folks were turned off just by the name. I gave my dad a copy of the "American Beauty" album way back when. He was pleasantly surprised and ended buying a couple more to see what else they had to offer. I could never get him to go to a show though.

That was my life through most of the 80's. I followed them up and down the East Coast. A lot of my guitar education can be traced to venue parking lots from fellow Deadheads. smile

Here's one I consider progressive. Others may not. If that's the case, one of our kind mods can yank it. smile

Unfortunately it is cut off about 30 seconds from the end.

I believe that sometimes the police will use Craig's List, Kijiji, etc. to ferret out people who fence stolen instruments, but I'm not devious enough to figure out how they do it.

They certainly do; and it's not just instruments.  A few years ago we had some things stolen. Among them were 3 rather expensive horse saddles. DW filed a police report and while the detective was at the house, he made her a proposition. We were to put an ad on CL looking for a saddle for our daughter (which we don't have) who wanted to take riding lessons. She waited about 2 weeks and placed the ad. She got a hit the same day with pictures of the saddles. Yep, they were ours. She made an appointment and called the detective. The 2 of them went to the house posing as a couple. Bingo! Thieves caught and some, but not all of our stuff was recovered.

Here's a great piece by "Porcupine Tree" from England, from their "Anesthetize" tour in 2008. These guys are one of the tightest live groups going, featuring first-class drumming by Gavin Harrison, and solid guitar tones from Steve Wilson and John Wesley, playing PRS guitars.

This is a 17-minute track, in true "Prog Rock" style. Sit back with a hot cup o' tea, and drink it all in! This is crazy good music!

Not trying to steal your spotlight TF. I just listened to this and it had a familiar sound to it. It took me a few minutes but I figured out what it reminded me of.

Another horror story pertaining to windows 8. That OS should have been dumped when it became obvious, a month after it's release, that it was a failure. But hey, that's just my opinion. YMMV.

Don

You might want too try Down on the Corner

That's a great song to practice the C-F/ F-C change. One of my favorite songs to play.

Any roosters from this batch will be dinner. Nope. don't feel any guilt. They're raised for food and food they are. smile

What breed of Chicken is that?  Is the rooster the same?  Lots of different colors there.

I have no idea. roll We were given a dozen chickens back in '07. Over the years there has been some breeding with others birds we've acquired or bought. Basically they're mutts.

We actually have 3 different flocks. 2 are contained and provide us with our eggs. The other is free-range. There are 2 roosters and 2 hens in that flock. The one above is part of that group. We let them roam around and help keep the insect population at bay. They also will find the stagnant pools of water and eat the mosquito larva.

Here is one of the free-range roosters and the daddy to some of the chicks.

And here is the other one. He is actually her son from last years hatching. Apparently chickens have no sense of morality. smile

@normtheguitar

their dinosaur-style claws always freak me out a little...

And they hurt. I've had a couple roosters over the years that would attack if you got too close to "his" girls. They made good soup. smile

Yeah, I stole that line from Monty Python. smile

We keep a lot of animals around here and added a few new members to the family a few weeks ago. Thought I'd share another side of me.

The first sign that the new ones were arriving; a broken egg.

Cool! I like it too. Maybe because I'm surrounded by farms and we've been drowning in excess rain this year.

When do we get to hear it?

Looks like a slow day for posts so I thought I'd make a contribution to this thread.

The Spectrum. Philadelphia, Pa 1979. My first and only Yes concert.

They had a round rotating stage so there was almost always a musician facing you. Being 1979 the video quality leaves a little to be desired and being at the Spectrum the audio, well, if you've ever been there you know. roll If you haven't, I'll just say, it works fairly well as an echo chamber. But I've seen countless concerts there and always enjoyed them.

Yes. Starship Trooper.

Waaaaay back when, the F chord was the bane of my existence. I would avoid songs with an F. I knew I would have to learn it eventually so I broke down and started going back and forth between the C and F because of the similar structure. After a few weeks I could make a smooth, clean change. There's no substitute for sheer repetition. It builds "muscle memory" in your hand. I look back now and wonder why it seemed so hard at the time.

I'm doing the same thing with the mandolin right now. Although I have to admit, even though the chords have different shapes, the guitar background has made it easier.
