Topic: Your Favourite Lyrics

I've just been listening to my playlist on my Ipod and I was listening to a load of lyrics and thought Id ask what some peoples favourite sections of lyrics are. Whether it be 1 line, a verse, a chorus, if it made you chuckle, brings back a memory etc. Let me and everyone else know your favourites. I'll start with a few of my favourites:-

"Steppin' where you fear to tread, Stop, drop and roll - you were DEAD FROM THE GIT-GO!" - From Slipknot's "Spit It Out". however an alternative lyric (as I and my friends interpret it) is "Steppin' where you fear to tread, Stop, drop and roll - you were dead from the Dick Up!" - Makes us chuckle more.

"You're Daddy works in porno, now that mommy's not around" - from Guns n Roses' "My Michelle"

"Crazy, but that's how it goes, Millions of people, living as foes" - from Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train". I think that lyric is quite poignant of the world today, all the war and crime etc.

"Please tell me, please tell me why, the car is in the front yard, and i'm, sleeping with my clothes on, came in through the window, last night, and your gone, gone" - from Lit's "My own worst enemy" which just reminds me of my days in medical training and our drunken nights out and visits to the beach, spending all day on the beach, drinking beer with friends, messing around, throwing the girls in the sea (and duly getting slapped for it) and a BBQ on the beach when it got dark before the tide came in. Happy days when I listen to that song.

"Ain't it hard to discover the world ain't what you thought it would be,
when your best laid plans hit the wall of reality.
But all in all its a good life, though it sure can be painful right now
Sometimes love is a river of tears
so pick up the oars and row."

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

"There are ghosts in the eyes
of all the boys you sent away,
They haunt this dusty beach road
in the skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets.'
They scream your name at night in the street,
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet..."
--Thunder Road, by Bruce Springsteen

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

When I think of memorable lyrics I think of two songs: "American Pie" and "Alice's Restuarant".

"Do or do not, there is no try." Yoda

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

There are a ton of classic and memorable lines posted here. A couple of my favorites and 1 is quite a bit more obscure:

"He can't be a man because he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me!" - Everyone should know this one. This song may have the best rock-n-roll lyrics ever written, (even though I much prefer The Who).

"I want the doctor to take your picture , So I can look at you from inside as well" - A wonderfull one hit wonder song that I'm not giving up quite yet - you'll have to look it up.  smile

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

I thought about beginning a similiar thread a couple of weeks ago, but was concerned it may turn into trouble. So, just as a reminder, this is a message from the song request forum:

Chordie does not host songs. It is a search engine that formats songs it finds on the internet. There are several reasons for this (most of them legal).

Please read FAQs on chordie's 'Resources' page for a longer explanation.

This also means that NO LYRICS can be posted in this forum.

You are however allowed to post links to songs on the internet, and you are allowed to post one-liners explaining how to play a song.

Any posting of lyrics may result in Chordie having to shut down! I will therefore automatically delete the account (and the songbook) of persons violating this rule, as well as ban their domain from accessing Chordie.

Please report any violation of this rule immediately!

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

Topdown-

Since when are the Vapors obscure?  "Turning Japanese" is one of my (many) favorite songs!

We'll have to agree to disagree about the lyrics to "Satisfaction," though.  See if you can find a recording of Steve Allen reading those lyrics as a poem, and you'll see what I mean...

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

OK, well in light of Topdown's message, and considering that my account has been frozen yet, I guess what I put up above was not too much.  It is sung by Randy Travis on the "Passing Through" album.  The lyricist is Jamie O'Hara.

I will post two more, one I know is not a copyright problem because it belongs to a friend who gave me permission to use it, and the other is not really lyrics but a quote from an interview with Jim Croce.

First, by Ken "Dirty Ed" Willis in his song Rich Kid Doctor: "He told me what I could be riskin', but I don't trust a man who golfs instead of fishin'.  He might be smart - finished first in his class, but he can kiss a picture of my ***"

Jim Croce interview: "If you dig it, do it.  If you really dig it, do it twice."

What's the decision then? Can we post if it's only a small amount of the lyrics (say, less than one verse) or not?

My intent was not to end this great thread, just wanted to put out a warning and make everyone aware of the sticky note on the song request forum. IMO a line or two of the lyrics should be o.k. - if you want or need to post more, I would suggest providing a link to one of those lyric sites, or a link to the actual song here on chordie. I know, silly, right,  - damn lawyers.

Here's my favourite:

"Got on the 47, transfered to the 89, left town east-bound past all the city signs." from 5 State Drive - Less Than Jake

"Waking up at 12, in my clothes again, felt my head explode from a night of gin." Just a Day - Feeder

"Sit down, remind me how, this is the same old story of growing up and getting lost." Help Save the Youth of America from Exploding - Less Than Jake

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

One of my favorite lyrics is: "If I could choose, a place to die, it would be in your arms." (Bell Bottom Blues by Eric Clapton/Dominos.)

Another is: "If I could reach the stars, I'd pull one down for you, shine it on my heart, so you could see the truth." (Another by Eric Clapton-"Change the World."

Re: Your Favourite Lyrics

You done stomped on my heart, and mashed that sucker flat,
Baby you just sorta, stomped on my aorta.
You started steppin out with guys, I felt us drift apart,
And every step you took, was a stomp upon my heart.

If that doesn't bring tears to your eyes, nothing will.
