Topic: is another area needed?

Hi Per, and fellow chordians  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

I have noticed recently a few threads have started that has nothing to do with the area it is in, i.e what job, something wrong with a search engine, etc.

Would it be worht while having another non guitar/music related area where members can ask for help or ask nono music related questions so they are not in places that seem wrong for them to be asked in?

I dont know if this would be  good thing or not on chordie, what do others think, and most important, what does Per think?

ye get some that are cut out for the job and others just get by from pretending

Re: is another area needed?

SORRY, Just thought it would be nice to know what other songwriters did for a living. My

Re: is another area needed?

no badeye, dont be sorry,

I thought it was a great idea for a thread, that is why I even replied in it too.

It just seems there is nowhere to ask non music question, and by the looks of it, some people do want to ask and people want to reply.

Re: is another area needed?

Thanks Ken,no problem. Maybe a new thread would work for something like that.I was thinking of my job and how hard it can be on hands and fingers.I know carpenters and trades people who have lost fingers do to they're work.No Fingers,No Play.

Take care...Badeye.

Re: is another area needed?

Would seem to be a shame to put everything into nice neat little boxes. Part of the warm fuzzy feeling people get when using this forum is the liberty to exchange as they please. If we side track in a string well it is the common intrest in that particular subject that brought there in the first place.

That said what does everyone think of the Kyoto Protocol......oops sorry.

I think about our "Planet" everyday. There's some crazy things happening all over the globe. We only got the one and we need to get it healthy.enviromentaly and socially.

Re: is another area needed?

I hear ya pal, to many people are messing with the planet for their own personal agendas. Maybe we should start a topic about songs for the planet? ( we could post it in the guitars and accessories section ) <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_rolleyes.gif" border=0 alt="Rolling Eyes">

Re: is another area needed?

Yes we do!

I'll leave it to the owners to decide whether an Off Topic area is appropriate here.  I've seen it work well on some forums, and destroy others.

However, related to the way Chordie is set up, I've been thinking about this for a number of days, and I've come to the conclusion that the way it's set up now is somewhat prone to causing these kinds of problems.

For example, we have an "electric, acoustic, and song requests" forum in the guitar playing section, yet most of the questions I see in there are about bands, and what a specific chord looks like, or how to play for beginners.

So I'd reccomend a breakdown something like a "beginners" section, because really, there isn't a whole hoots full of difference between an electric or acustic for someone just starting out.

I'd reccomend a "gear" section for widget heads and amp monkeys to play in.

A "music theory" section for discussion of, well, music theory, and the glories of dorian mode over minor 7 chords.

And then I'd like to see "My Local Band" broken down into geographic areas.  I can't tell you how many times I've cried myself to sleep when I opened up a promising article only to find the poster is in some strange country that's not Seattle.  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

The songwriter's section is brilliant.

So anyway, that's my $0.02 worth.  Spend wisely!

Someday we'll win this thing...

Re: is another area needed?

I am following this discussion, and are listening to all the good arguments.

As a side-note: There will be a change in the forum software. I need something that is more stable. There are a few bugs related to the log in that I am not able to fix. This means all the forums will have to start from scratch (sorry).

However this is a very good opportunity to reconsider the forum structure.

Re: is another area needed?

I think it would be a great idea!

Bit concerned about having to start all the forums again ... now what am I supposed to do at work all day other than go through all the various threads!?  <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_sad.gif" border=0 alt="Sad">

Re: is another area needed?

The old forum will of course still be available. Unfrotunately I have not found a way to migrate the posts to the new software.

Another area for more informal chats will be the Facebook-group called Chordie (see separate post). <a href="http&#58;&#47;&#47;www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2359077351&ref=mf" target="_blank">http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2359077351&ref=mf</a>. It is an experiment. I barely registered on Facebook myself. Lets see if such a group will work.

Re: is another area needed?

phew!  My dull days at work will still be bearable then!  Cheers!    <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">

Re: is another area needed?

Personaly I reckon that Chordie is good enough as it is tbh. If any new areas were to be added it's my opinion that only two would be needed;

A welcome area; to encourage any lurkers (there are a few methinks) to join the other areas and part with some of their wisdom or indeed ask any questions they have.

A miscelanous area; For.....well all the miscelanous stuff I suppose, What ye listening too, who have you seen in concert, where are you from....that sort of thing.

This is a great site as it is and I don't think a glut of areas is really needed.

Just my humble opinion like. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif" border=0 alt="Smile">

Re: is another area needed?

I agree with Craig, the Forum is basically fine as it is but the two areas he mentioned would be an asset.

The only other thing I think that we could do with is a log in/out at the top of the Forum page to save going back to the Artists page all the time.
