Re: I Want a Telecaster

Hi Jerome,

OK You and Russell have something in common.... awhile back he mentioned that he was also considering a Tele to add to his arsenal.
Just for the record though, and because I'm curious, what is it about the Tele that makes it special in your opinion?  The reason for the question is that I'm considering building another guitar in the near future and if I "clone" one, I'd like to know what qualities are particularly desirable in the Tele that you can't get out of another common guitar shape or configuration.  Do you prefer the classic solid body or the newer semi-hollow thinline, and why or why not?
Dual or triple pickups, single or double coils, through-body or wraparound bridge, stuff like that?  I spend way too much time considering all those options before I even go out choosing wood, because in the end it is the sound and playability that is paramount in my mind when in the "planning stage".

Thanks, and Take Care;
Doug

Wayne I believe what go's around comes around when I think of all the gear (amps, mic's,guitars, effects,) that have been taken from me I could get really bummed but the one thing thieves cannot steal is my talent and love for music and when you think of it that is the most important asset smile

Re: I Want a Telecaster

You got that right Wayne! Been lucky not to have music gear stolen but pity the one who might
try!! Got my tele 2 yrs ago and really like it. Mostly the sound but the feel of the narrow neck
and the placement of the volume/tone knobs. I have a tendency to turn the volume knob by
accident while playing the strat. One other feature is a blonde maple neck which I like. Just
   looks cool too.lol         Mike

The Telecaster, like the AK-47 and a supersonic flyby, has an unmistakable sound, and that sound is righteously cool.  I'm writing a lot of "cow punk" now, and there just isn't anything quite like it.

I've owned the semi-hollow body before, but what I want now is the old school single coil, bridge pickup bearing solid body guitar.   I want to plug that into about 40 watts of pure VOX tube goodness, and turn the gain up a little too high.  I want to wear my dads black Stetson and a bolo tie, and wring the things neck until one of us cries uncle.

Oh yes I do....

Re: I Want a Telecaster

I have a black 2004 american standard with the grey pearloid pickguard. Its perfect! Spanky and twangy clean. The best neck I've ever played anywhere. Yes, I like the gain up too. The single coils are great. Get one? Hell, get two! I'd love to have another with the body binding and the brass saddles. Red, no, butterscotch....

Re: I Want a Telecaster

The Tele has been proven to be one of the three most versatile guitars made. Everyone should have at least one in thier arsenal. I'm gassin hard for a Fender Tele AM Deluxe now.

Re: I Want a Telecaster

/me wants a Telecaster as well... sadly, can't afford much... the Squire Classic Vibe Thinline looks awesome, but really need to play it first... I hate things now that so many guitar shops have fallen by the wayside and those that remain are too conservative with their stock and won't order anything unless they believe it will sell... there's no real opportunity to try before you buy anymore...

Re: I Want a Telecaster

hi jerome,

i've been looking for a new guitar for about a year (i'm not easily swayed!) i looked at ibanez as i wanted a guitar with a tremelo. i've had a strat for 30 years and never been completely happy with it! i tried just about all the guitars in south wales, and in the shop in swansea in particular...(i play lefty by the by), i'd seen this tele and i thought...nah! but having reached the end of their stock i said ok pass it over. as soon as i picked it up i knew i'd met my new life-long partner. it felt right in my hands it nestles nicely into my belly and it plays like a dream. no trem but i get a crisp sound i've been looking for, for ages, along with a sweet mellow sound when required.

all i can suggest is...try one, if it fits; buy it. if not get a gibby.

Ask not what Chordie can do for you, but what you can do for Chordie.

Re: I Want a Telecaster

I think the Telecaster forces one to go back to "basics"! A talented player can squeeze an endless amount of cool sound out of one...no bells, whistles, fancy stuff, just good basic and solid guitar.  I have an American Telecaster with a Bigsby that is my favorite. Also have a G&L ASAT Classic Telecaster that is an absolute wonder! If one looks at all the guitar players from early days of Rock and Country to present, you'll notice that nearly all have a telecaster or two regardless of what they play!

Middleaged Redneck sorta guy who refuses to grow up...passion for music, especially Southern Rock but like bout everything cept Gangsta/Hip Hop. Collect guitars, mandolins, and love to ride Harleys.

Re: I Want a Telecaster

I know it's not really a tele, but it certainly is tele style. I was looking for looping inspirations to break out of my rut and came across this. I immediately thought of this post. I fell outta my chair when I saw that above the nut B bend at :20 and :29. How could something that cool be that easy?

Re: I Want a Telecaster

Yeah..... I'm a car guy too, and a toolmaker. So everything is in the details, and I can really appreciate fine craftsmanship. Although I can't always afford it. I kinda get excited when I talk about cars and guitars. Come to think of it, my Mom had a '71 Chevy with a 396. No Fuelie heads or hurst, but we did donuts on the way to school once.

That was May Jerome. Did you ever get one?
