James
Thanks for the kind words.
We Brits are not renowned for our patriotism and I felt a little silly posting this song.
But I think my old Dad would have liked it.

Old Doll
Thanks
Yes my old Dad had many a “story"  to tell about the war.
Now he has passed way I wish I had listened more to him.
He was very proud to have served.

Jeff
I have always thought our links with the USA are strong because a lot of the founders of your great country came from Uk.
Thanks for the comments.

Hi Jeff,
I agree with the sentiments of your song. Violence begets  violence always  has.
I’m not sure if all people can express their personalities through an art form though.
Its food for thought .
Nice one.

Hi James

Just had go at it and I like it. The (I hope smile )  tongue in cheek lyrics are great made me smile.
I guess that was the intention.

Hi,
This song is some what patriotic.
Written a while back for my Dad who fought in World war II. Not to much about war but more about his love for his country.

Though I think most of the sentiments could apply to a lot of countries.

Hi,
I don't think anyone here has the right to Suggest an edit to lyrics of your song.

The words are yours and yours alone. Its your creation. smile

Though I would like to know what chords you were thinking of using.

Ark

Ps  Just saw you were only 12years old. Well Done

Hi
A few suggestions

The streets of London   Ralph McTell
Tears in heaven   Eric Clapton
Blackbird   Paul McCartney
Romeo and Juliet  Dire Straits
Vincent   Don McLean
American Pie Ditto

The list could go on.
I think a lot of songs lend themselves to some picking arrangement just experiment.

Hi old doll

One of my favourite pieces. Pachelbel cannon in D.

Play it alot has a great many variations. The basic chord pattern D A Bm F#m G D G A  repeated with overlaying melodies is so nice played on the guitar.

Also love the original Baroque version as written by Pachelbel.

Glad you enjoyed the bluegrass festival.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your problem.

I don't suffer from what you describe but have had some problems. Which at the time I felt that I needed something drastic done.

But with time and practice plus exercise things became easier.

Your problem with The A chord is annoying for you. but using your pinky for the B string can be an advantage in some ways and not to restrictive. For moving up to the barred B chord it can be helpful. Also a tough pinky is not a bad thing to have.

Try to be positive and Goodluck

Hi james

Just a quick question.

Is there anyway you can add a song you have submitted on Chordie to your own personal songbook.

Have looked at FAQ but still not sure.

Thanks.

Hi
I’m sat here messing around with a song I wrote. Playing the chords tinkering with the melody trying to get it sound and feel right to me.

Then strange thought occurred to me.

Namely do other people hear the same as me. What I mean is are the sounds I hear the same for everyone.

We are all built the same. I know nearly everyone enjoys music can tell a good tune. most people can tell when something is off key. But is it the same good tune as me.

Is it unanswerable question.

Hi lambsie100178
Congratulations on choosing to learn to play the guitar.
It can be a long road with highs and lows. But its definitely worth it.

As been said Chords are the foundation on which all guitar songs are built.

So I think the learning of the open Chords first is the place to start.

A C D E G are all Major open Chords and are use by many simple songs.

Lots of internet guitar chord sites show where to place your fingers on the fret board etc and then its just a case of practice and more practice.

Hope this helps a bit

Hi
My advice to you for whats its worth is to sort out some songs that you like check out the chords on Chordie and see if you can handle the changes (most probably open Chords not barred)

Then practice them. Listen to them being played also helps.

There are some well known "esay" songs to learn but not knowing the type of music you like I think you have to make the choices.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi old doll,

Just curious how you've been playing your guitar up till now.

I asked because I have never got on with a plectrum (picks of various types) or any other devise tried them all at different times and they just did'nt feel right.

Just use my nails and the fleshy part of my thumb for strumming I feel have more control that way.

Regards.

Hi,
Sorry to jump in here been fingerpicking for years I love it. Nothing like as good as Tommy Emmanuel but one can dream.

Your right Tommy and most pickers on stage use some type of amplifier but the Acoustic has its own unique sound.

Yourve probably seen it on Utube but I just love this.

Hi acmecorp

acmecorp wrote:

No, that's cool, I learned that song years ago from a school music book.

Turned out that the book was wrong, my girlfriend at university showed me how it ended on a major not a minor, something called a Picardy third if I remember rightly, where a minor key song ends on a major.

I'm gutted.

You mean I've been ending it wrong for these years. On a minor not a major. Well that must be the reason it just does'nt feel cool to me!
a Picardy third I must remember that one. smile

Hi
Now I've dabbled a bit on the songwriting forum I  feel I can lend my two pennies worth (Yes that does date me  smile a bit).

I like this song. Nice expressive lyrics and chord progressions. I've had a go and it works well figerpicking though the chords.

I feel some empathy as I have a daughter who is nearly 30 now, though I don't think she was bullied  as such. I remember the feelings of wanting to protect her from anything that could hurt her mentally or physically. Of course you can't. But there it is.
