Okay this is a song I just finished up today... There's a couple of things to remember to get the full effect.
First off, these are how you play the chords:

A- normal full A

G= l-x-
     l-x-
     l-x-
     l-5-
     l-5-
     l-3-

D = l-2-
      l-3-
      l-2-
      l-0-
      l-0-
      l-2-

Secondly, for the intro, instrumentals, (and anywhere else it feels right) roll into the A with this:

l-----------
l----------2
l----------2
l----------2
l-----0h3--
l-0h3------

Lastly, chords are strummed with a kind of crunchy 'heavy' feel, i use my hand to sort of halfway kill the strings coming down.... On the instrumental I like to play around with some simple picking, its pretty easy just stay on the scales over the appropriate chord...

um oh yeah what we were talking about... artists we dont like right. Nickelback, that guys voice sux, but i have to admit the video with billy gibbons was cool.
99.9% of country music made after 1989.... and boy bands.... and justin timberlake.

[q]6)- REDNEX: “Cotton Eye Joe  1995 a Swedish techno-bluegrass crossover.[/q]

So THATS who's responsible for that. I was at a friend of mine's 'professional wrestling' event, and they had hired a DJ. It started playing this techno song, and around half way through i realized it was cotton eyed jo.... a crying shame.
And yeah picture's the name of it... honestly i understand its nothing spectacular but i didnt find it half as nausiating as 99% of he hip hop wanna be 'pop' songs that are floating around.

THese are some good lyrycs jets, nice choice of words. Its scary to think where this country might go, if when I'm old enough to talk about the 'good old days' it will be THESE days...

I played piano for a few years when I was younger, and clarinet in band. I kindof abandoned both of those, wish i would have stuck with piano in some ways, if only to learn music theory...
I play a little bit of mandolin, not enough to brag about, but I kind of follow along if somebody else takes  the lead.

'Save your love through loneliness, save your love thru sorrow, I give you my onlyness..." - Johnny Cash: Onlyness??? What does that mean?

Then of course theres that wierd word in the Joker, pompitous??? Or whatever it was....

Maybe I'll think of some more later I'm too tired to concentrate,...

So I have this song i wrote over the last few days, got the music figgered out and everything, but I need a little help deciding what order to put the verses in.... or even if i should call it done yet? Maybe James or somebody could take a look and tell me what they think: (Its a rockish type song done with those power chord thingys)

VERSE SET 1:

I think the devil knows my name
He shouts it from the rooftop in the howlin' rain
I laughed at the devil and the floodwaters came
And I think he remembers my name

I think I gave away my name
When I looked in his eyes and I aint never been the same
I know its my own fault and I shouldn't complain
But I think he wrote a number by my name

VERSE SET2:

I seen the devil he's alive and well
He looks kind of like heaven but he smelled like hell
I hear him callin' me just a ringing his bell
But I know the answer too well

I heard him singing his song
Sayin' "Come on children wont you sing along?''
He'll tell you he's an angel but that dont last long
And there aint no way to move on

THEN THESE TWO THAT DONT REALLY GO TOGETHER:

I think the devil laughs out loud
Everytime he sees me in a crowd
I think he likes to watch me get knowcked down
Yeah I think he laughs out loud

AND

I chased the devil down to watch him die
He had a hollow look around his sunken eyes
He seemed dissapointed that I didnt cry
But then again I think I understand why

ANyway some good advice is what I need, maybe someone has an idea. Thanks in advance,
LR

]Plastic crap that's [G]all shrink wrapped, and low-price guaran-[D]teed

I wasted half my life time in the wal mart comin' up, and this song really does it justice. In answer to your question, my grandma was the one buying all the useless plastic tubs, bins, baskets, and utensils lol

SO I did some experimenting and learned that if you use this shape:

l-x
l-x
l-x
l-3-
l-3-
l-1-
and slide it to different positions on the fret board, you can make any chord you want and it gives it a nice 'heavy' sound..... perhaps I have discovered a power chord? I don't know much about this kind of thing and I call everything by the wrong names...
ANYWAY, for this song you use this 'power chord' thingy instead of the full chords.

5th fret on E,A, and D strings = A
3rd Fret on E,A and D strings = G
3rd fret but move it up to the A,D and G strings = C

Whenever you come to G, slide back into the A
(If you decide to just use whole chords, use Am)
I play this on acoustic, but you could probly do it on electric too....

hmmm.... the headstock and top look alot like the guitar I got from a pawn shop, with a real wide neck almost like a mexican style, but the back almost HAS to make it an ovation. Never seen one like that before. How does it sound? Is it possible somebody built this themselves??

I think if someone really devotes themselves to learning to play, they can work past the sound of a cheap guitar and just do the best you can with what you have. BUT I do know that it can be a problem when your instrument wont hold tune, or produce the right sound, and it can be discouraging. Its a great feeling when you've been playing on a wore out piece of junk and you finally get to pick up a nice guitar and find you sound better than you thought you did.

G]No feeling etched in satin[C] now
[G]My chosen Valen [D] tine spelt [G] hurt.

Great choice of words. For some reason I can't sing and fingerpick at the same time, but I'll do my best big_smile
Take it easy,
