My bro in law has been doing this with his 1970 Kustom SG since he bought the thing in 1971.
The first time I saw him do it about twenty years ago , I just cringed . He does it at the end of a few rock songs that he does , and it does sound cool . Having said that,
I don't think you'll be seeing me do it . Although has'nt bothered that Kustom after thirty seven years ???!!!.......

Clip from a song that Dino Vallentti wrote and was recorded by Jefferson Airplane with no success , then made a hit by Jesse Collin Young's band in '68
called " Get Together "
" Some may come and some may go.......
We will surely pass......

Returns for us , at last....."

Hey Guys ,
Does'nt seem like this is gonna fit in here , but I've been in a great mood for the last couple of weeks . Met a new jamming partner about three weeks ago . Turns out we're like peas and carrots ,
( as Forest Gump would say ).
I keep expecting some personality conflict to surface , but nothing yet......
Even my wife and his significant other get on great . We all really like each other .
We play well together and our voices sound good together ....................
I'm a happy guy.........

Boy oh Boy Zurf ,
Sure have done your homework .........
I'm not a bass player , but recently my little bro was talking about one of those and I checked out a full bodied Johnson . I was impressed . Big sound unplugged and nice thumper plugged in . Price was under three bills .
I will say though , if you plan to play it unplugged much , I would go with the full bodied ones . Any brand will be louder than the smaller bodied cutaways .
Good luck.............Jerry

Hey Topgun ,
A few years ago when I was looking , the best one I found for the least money was the Dean Markley Pro Mag . When I bought mine , I think it was about forty four bucks . I use it some , but mostly bought it so when we have someone show up at a jam with a straight accoustic , just slip it in and go . Real nice accoustic tone .
I think Musician's Friend or
American Musical Supply usually have the best deals .
That one does'nt have volume control built in , but for the money , it's the best I found .
Good luck..........

Hey Hemmingvan ,
You're right about that , I do remember the names of the really good bands I've heard . Is'nt it funny how you'll be in a bar and the band will start up , and you realize you'd rather listen to them than any superstar you ever heard . A lot of the best music I've ever heard was played by small obscure bands that were probably getting paid 300 bucks for the night to divide between
them . But then , you just know they were'nt doing it for the money..............
" Three Cold Ones From The
Fridge " I love that one......

Hey Geoaguiar ,
Reminds me of this one time , forty years ago when I was about fourteen .
One of my buddies came over one day to sing and play , and he walked in the door with this bag of bananas .
I'm like , what are they for , and he says , well he heard that if you take the skins , dry them in the oven , you can smoke them . Again , I'm like , oooo kay . So we peel all these bananas and eat them ( did'nt want to waste them right ? ) Then put all these skins on my mom's cookie sheets into the oven they go . Well ,we were both feeling a little green from eating all these bananas
and words can not describe the smell coming from the oven.........Needless to say everything got thrown away ,
and when my mom came home to that smell and the mess on her cookie sheets , we were both in deep s--t .
I got the blame and his mom got a call .
That was my first and last time experimenting with crap like that .
After that and to this day I say , just give me a beer.......

lived in that part of the world.
My wife and I have been talking about making the trip seriously for about four years

Ghanlon ,
I know what you mean , after playing for forty five years , I have seen some of the guys that I got started playing two years ago , and I
can't believe how good they are . Immense technical ability , but sometimes I think they get so wrapped up in that , that they forget about the MUSIC......
I also know guys that know and use fifty or sixty chords , but just have'nt quite figured out what that other hand is for ........LOL

Hi ,
I agree with Badeye & cytania , I don't think the type of music is the cause of bad behavior . I live five miles from where " We Fest "
music festival is held every year , Which is primarily country music . And we see our share of poor behavior from the people who come from all over the country for it . Of course country music isn't really country music anymore , is it ?
As far as the topic goes , I
say , " Electric guitars don't kill people ,.....People kill people................

Oldnewby ,
Thanx fer bein ma dixanery,
All you said is absolutely true , could'nt have said it better myself . Bob Dylan's
voice was not among his many virtues .
I don't and will never have the singing voice that I wish I had , and yet at jams when I have done some of my own songs , there is nary a dry eye in the place ........( unless of course they were feeling sorry for themselves having to listen to my voice ).

But as you said , I think content and how well the music is played can make up for a lot............

The Rhythm..
The Vocals..
in that order.......
Everything else in icing on the cake..........

I LOVE the sound of a twelve ( in tune ) . Used to have one years ago that I played extensively , but got tired of the lack of stayintuneitiveness . It was fine if playing alone but with other guitars , always needed to much tweaking .
My bro in law has a nice Yahmmy 12 that he brings to jams . Always has to spend the time to tune it , but once done , and he fires it up those sixties rock songs just come to life ..............
Sometimes I can get close to the sound with my chorus pedal , but just not the
same.............

Mcatak ,
You know , I always wanted to try that after watching Barry and Maurice
Gibb do some of my favorite songs that way , but I was always afraid I would get spoiled ( or lazy ) , and not want to play the other way anymore . I'd be lost , I'd have to completely relearn all my picking patterns and run ups and downs . Might just have to try it anyway.........

Hi there ,
Guitar , bass , violin ,and viola .
When it comes to musical instruments , my motto is ,
" IF YOU CAN'T PICK IT , STRUM IT , OR PLAY IT WITH A BOW , IT MUST BE SOMETHING THAT YOU MIGHT AS WELL THROW !!!!!
( although I do love the sound of a well played piano )

Re: Drop tunnings (21 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Alvee ,
Even doing what I do with the guitars tuned differently ,
I always assumed that performing guitarists used different guitars on different songs , just for a certain sound they wanted , but your explanation makes much more sense........
Thanks............
Sorry Sinjin , I don't right now , but will ask around ......
