Can there be music this Thursday or weekend?  For once, I haven't got a ton of plans and really miss seeing and hearing and joking around with you guys and moderator chick.

It's another language. I can't sing, therefore I have no key.

You can sing.  If you can catch on to phone number rhythm and if you can say the pledge of allegiance from memory, then you have enough memory and rhythm to learn to sing.

My sister met him when she was a theater arts major at Pitt.  She said he is as gentle and kind in person as he is on the TV show.  That's nice to know.

I'll be at Lake of the Ozarks with my family in mid-July.  If anyone wants to get together while I'm out there, try a message.  I might have some connection though can't promise it.

Low Water Bridge Campground - http://www.lowwaterbridgecampground.com/

Tell them you're with Derek Zurfluh's group and you'll get the cheap price but you'll have to set up with us yahoos.  $8/night/person, come or go when you need.  No need to be there the entire weekend.  I'm coming in on Thursday and leaving on Sunday if all goes as planned.

This is meant to be a family friendly event.  Reasonable volume of adult beverages are expected, but shouting profanity from one end of the campground to another will not be appreciated.  I felt the obligation to say that, though I'd never expect trouble from any a-Chordie-an (which is why I've made it an open invitation here, but not elsewhere).

Lots of rain yesterday, but supposed to be nice weather through the weekend.  Lots to do in the area if you're not into canoeing or fishing during the day.

Was the guitarist using an alternate tuning?

I'll be up on the Shenandoah next weekend.  I'll raise a bottle of something from our light technician to you and Jim, Amy.

No worries Pete.  I had a buddy in my office and we were messing around with my guitars.  I went on line to see if anyone was there so that I could show him how the whole Skype deal worked.  You were the only one who showed up as being on-line.

Sure it's possible.  Notes are notes.  The trumpet doesn't have any secret notes that guitar players can't play.  Now HOW do you play it?  I haven't the foggiest...

For legalities, you should check with a professional, i.e., a lawyer.  Intellectual property law is its own specialty, as is entertainment law.  Getting hearsay advice from fellow musicians is more likely to lead to trouble than not.

I kept checking in last night to see if anyone was around, but to no avail.  I'll keep an eye out to see what's going on today.  But today is my wife's birthday, so most of the day will be catering to her.  If someone's on this evening, I'll try and pop in.  Hope so.  Haven't played much lately and would like the kick start.

Well, uh, good luck with that.

I just wanted to welcome you to the forum.  As far as the tech issues go, you would do well not to listen to my advice anyway.  Also, that's a capital handle you've picked.

I'm not doing anything so far as I know.  I'm usually the last to know what my plans are, but right now I've just got to clean up after a little get-together we had tonight (very little work as we had extremely courteous guests), plus the possibility of drowning some flies if I can slip out the door undetected.

Well, it's Friday and I have taken the afternoon off.  What is unusual about that is that the clock seems to be affected.  It went straight from 11:59 to 1700.

It's not my birthday, but I think I'll have that beer anyway.

I was wondering about the cause.  The picture of being a burden to your wife as an invalid would not be a pretty one.  I feel badly for his family and friends.

It's not evil if it's not a full barre.  No go mutate those children!

Hey!  My back and guitar strap made the banner!  I think it was very wise of Detman not to permit my face on the banner as that would scare people away.

I've found that Youtube was not too happy with an update Google Chrome did, but it worked fine from Explorer when I used it instead.  It seems to have been repaired now for Google Chrome as I was able to watch a few videos on it there yesterday.

I've always wanted to go to Jekyll Island to see the leatherback turtle migration and spawning.  I'm sure the beaches are tightly controlled then, but they've got to have some kind of observation platforms or something.  I saw a lesser event at Pea Island in North Carolina's Outer Banks and it was super cool.

Zurf,

I looked up "Mr. Bojangles" on Youtube and Chordie--what a great song. When he sings about how Bojangle's dog died and he still misses him, it made me cry!! I'm practicing the chords, but it's hard to sing it without choking up a bit. Thanks for telling me about it.

Speaking of Petey, when I'm practicing guitar and he wants me to play with him, he comes in my room and jumps up and put his front paws on my knee and nudges the neck of my guitar with his nose. Then he wags his tail and and looks at me. If I don't stop playing,  he starts to bark and whine until I do. His favorite thing is to go "smelling" in the woods--he'll walk for about ten feet, then spend a about minute sniffing something really interesting, then walk a little bit more, then sniff. Over and over. Did I mention that he's a beagle?

Here's one of my favorite dog songs M.B, although it made a lady cry one night when I played it around a campfire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sd3QV0lwMXk

Are you sure it was the song that made her cry?

This coming weekend, we're having a little get-together at our house and there will be a few pickers there.  Hard to say if there will be any picking, the possibility is there.

How'd your gigs go Debrap and Roger?

"One bourbon, one scotch and one beer" from the inimitable George Thorogood, I just love the song.

Jerry

George Thorogood's version is best as far as I'm concerned, but the song and the quote was originally John Lee Hooker's.

EDIT TO ADD SECOND VIDEO LINK

My first came from calling Russell Harding the King of the Mutants for writing an entire song comprised of nothing but B-shaped chords specifically for the purpose of harassing me.  I had just declared the B chord to be a mutants-only chord.  Upon hearing that he was King of the Mutants, Russell cyber shouted "Long live the mutants!"   I couldn't agree more.  Thank God there are people who can play the guitar as well as Russell.

The second came from a thread in which I was talking about hearing a recording of myself singing and how awful it was.  Mekidsmom, who sings beautifully, gave the advice that "If it comes from the heart and you add a few beers, it'll be awesome."  I have endeavored to do just that and by golly my singing has improved.

The third was instruction given to me by an orchestra leader when I played bass in a playhouse orchestra.  I was a bit timid on one of the songs, and he wanted the walls to vibrate.  He told me to play loud and forcefully so that if I messed up it would sound like everyone else was wrong.

I don't recall what my fourth is right now, so I'm going to have to post, read it, then abuse my Moderator magic powers to come back and edit my post to add the explanation.

EDIT TO ADD: That came from a thread in which I had been practicing one of Russell's songs, "A Few To Many".  It contains a B chord, which by now we know is an evil chord which only mutants can play.  So I switched in a B7, but because I know some people are touchy about such things, I asked Russell if it was OK to do that.  He said it was, and then granted me general B chord amnesty (which apparently is a power vested in the King of the Mutants).
