Wow great lyrics I would do it with just two chords G and C.   I will bang it out that way and pop  it up on soundcloud for a couple of days. Hope you don't mind . I will take it down because it is yours. All I can say is it is a great song. I just want you to hear it done by some one else.

Greetings John as I am hopeless at music theory and work by feel, I was wondering is there some where on the net that I could hear some of your sounds.
Many of my fellow Kiwi music dabblers use soundcloud to release their musical ideas to the world. There is also up on soundcloud a group of us having ago at adapting  Strummer Bill and his wife's LOVE  poem into a song. Phill Williams and Kiki Jan plus others have  put their If Sunshine Were Mine on soundcloud. This chordie is a site full of diverse wonderful people welcome.

Bill you are a positive force. Where would anyone be in life if it wasn't for honest interaction. If we all thought the same how boring. I have thrown another one of my songs up on YouTube about putting words and music together. Hope you  give it a listen and watch.

Jandle now has added a lovely version of If Sunshine Were Mine under Kiki Jan on soundcloud.

Bill and Dondra though you are a long way from many of us out here living in other parts of  the world. You are close to all our hearts.

I have had the pleasure of hearing Jandle and Mac sing together they are magic. Easybeat playing guitar with them is like a hand fitting into a glove a perfect match..  I am glad they are not butchers as the receiver of the cut of their action  would have been in big trouble. Now I know what that song the first cut is the deepest is all about.
Loved Mac first up song on soundcloud. Only problem with the name Mac is there is too many of that name on soundcloud making it hard to find. I was only able to find her by going through easybeat's soundcloud.
Now that I am a Chordian  does that make me a member of a strange sect????
As a Chordian do we have to practise weird rituals?????

Dondra I can feel her warmth as the words jump of my computer screen and down into my soul.
Yesterday my Maree and I celebrated our 34th wedding anniversary and last night even though it was dark I felt the sunshine of Bill's original words.
Now we have Dondra,s moving words as well.
Special gifts like sunshine are so, so very rare.

I love the way people are having a go at your lyrics. I would like to see a International  movement formed called
If Sunshine Were Mine. With all sorts of musicians giving their take on your lyrics to that song  and putting them up on soundcloud. I have put my version up on  soundcloud under Peatle Jville which I think is not that good but the best I could do so at the moment I place myself at third place getter.
So far three countries have submitted I would like to hear more from every where. Mo and Phill love your versions.
I hope more New Zealanders would give it ago as the Northern Hemisphere has got the lead at the moment.

My theory for what its worth is I think song writing can be over complicated. Some of the most memorable songs have a sort of simplicity. Janis Joplin didn't bother with chords when she did Mercedes Benz. Give Peace A Chance  three chords simple beat C an F and G. Maybe you  should grab three chords  that you can get to without struggle. Do them in different patterns. C F G plus  a minor chord somewhere might help you to open up your boundaries. Now with the strumming people tend to over strum in my opinion as though their trying to keep up with a treadmill. Maybe try a pattern where you ad a slow two strum twice. Then move it up to a notch to maybe a rolling Four strum then to  slow single down strums with your two and fours in between. I like the idea of subtle under playing rather than over playing. Don't worry to much about it though because at least your lyrics are saying something. When I try to do a song I always, whether its mine or someone else's is not worry about the chords but try and develop a feel that's mine. The other thing is try and fun with it even if its a serious subject. Hope I have offered you something constructive here.

Thank you for your welcome mekidsmom. I  have only started dabbling a bit with music again after taking a 35 years break from it. On soundcloud I am also known as Peatle Jville. I have mainly done my own songs on Soundcloud apart from three cover versions of easybeats songs. It was completely due to easybeat that I decided to have a dabble with music as a way of relaxing and unwinding at home from the pressures of the world. The wonderful Jandal has honoured me by doing a cover of one of my songs on soundcloud  more of a co write as she added some lyrics and made it work. Jandal is Kiki Jan on soundcloud. Beestie is also part of our group of song writers from down here in New Zealand he is an excellent lyricist. I am part Fijian from my mother's side, our culture revolves a lot around singing though I cant really sing myself. Singing I am sure in all cultures is how we uplift ourselves. My early childhood is full of memories of my father and grandperants singing their cockney London songs and my mothers side singing their Fijian songs. I don't know how to do a link. Art to me is another word for creative and I believe everyone in their own way is creative. The difference is some are more entertaining then others,
