Bill,

Glad Dondra is ok.....  that sounds so surreal and terrifying.

There is nothing that can replace good health.... lose a car, a house, diamond necklace - all replaceable resources......

the love of your life, a child -   I can't even imagine........

so glad you are back and things are going favorable

your buddy from the north

Thanks for the kudos.... like Bluejeep says above,  I could write a novel just filled with " great ideas"  I've attempted.   But beestie hit it on the nail... it really defines me - it's how everyone knows me.  I changed a couple of words from the original and shifted the chorus chords to play better.   I hope everyone enjoys it and that it brings back some of those "special moments"  we all have had. smile   When I get time I'll put it on soundcloud.

so after I read that Bluejeep got a kit from his wife- I looked up kits - thinking maybe I'd try it.....
I went to a martin site -- some good kits ....
but what blew me away was this guitar for sale - $ 99,999.00
OMG - who in their right mind pays that to play a guitar ?  maybe if I won the billion dollar lottery or something

not in my lifetime....    I have to stick with my Martin Custom X

Joey,
Congrats - that looks way cool.

Holy crap - 18 strings in all -   I wouldn't have a clue how to play one, I have way more than enough to learn on six.
I would imagine that it will sound great played by you however.

My buddy gave me a shirt after I bought my last guitar - it say's  " Go ahead and buy it, you can always get another wife" ! smile

I'm looking forward to hearing something played on it - enjoy!!

Phill,
Nicely done !

you have an excellent voice.

I do think the length makes it an album song, not a single release.

The message is strong - and your ability to perform is top notch !!

I wish I could come to wales and hang out with you - have a couple beers and share some stories -    I know we are on the same  plane.

Thanks for a great rendition, my friend !!
Jim

ps I'd like to  agree with Bill, this sounds like a Trace Adkins hit, but I think you're every bit as good - so it should be a Phill   hit !!

Bill

Thank you,

that is special coming from someone we all hold in such high esteem.
It means a lot to me that you and the " guest" took the time to listen and give me such kind words.
She is the best and kindest  guest commentator I have ever had the pleasure of hearing from smile
If it brought her a smile, it is even more special to me.
Thanks again and all best wishes to you .

While my three daughters are grown, they will always be my babies.  I am going to be a grandfather in January for the first time. It inspired me to write this tonight - hope you like it.

you and I should be freaking twins...... we think so much a like .......love it man !
reminds me a bit of edwin starr's .......

Oh, war, I despise
'Cause it means destruction of innocent lives
War means tears to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go off to fight and lose their lives

I said
War, huh good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, just say it again
War whoa Lord
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing,

....... friend only to the undertaker

I liked your sentiment as well as the arrangement.

Phill, and Bill (and all else)

I basically live in " Minor land"  when I am playing and singing anything emotional......

Those chords just reach into me and shake my soul.....

One of the first songs I ever posted on here was called " Minor man"  a song about a cheating husband. I used all minor chords (except for one e7)  to support the theme.

this was the first verse and chorus......

Intro
[Am] [Dm] [E7] [ Am]
[Am] [Dm] [Am,e7] [Am]

Verse 1
[Am]What began as a minor

[Dm] incident, has [E7] now  become the
[Am] main event

[Am] What seemed like minor [Dm] circumstances,
  with [E7]inviting smiles , and
[Am]enchanted glances

Chorus
[Dm]You've got minor faith in
[Am]anything I say, I've [E7] blown your trust, and there's
[Am] hell to pay

[Dm]To say I'm sorry
[Am] just won't do, You've got [E7] minor faith in my
[Am]love for you
[E7]minor faith in my [Am]love for you

My wife often kindly asks me to sing with a minor voice, and sometimes with no voice at all ,  as well smile

when Amy(Mekidsmom)  suggested trying Gerswhin's Summertime -  wow - I play it all the time - I love it. I use em,Am, B7,C7G a7

it has become my go to song.

I also love the friday fix by badeye.... and from that I almost always find abunch of blues songs that I never heard of... and discover more use of the minor chords.

Lastly, YES was one of my fav's in college. Listen to their albums many a night in the dorm.

to all my great chordie friends.....

I think that whether you are lennon, ian Anderson, Elvis, dylan, buddy holly, the doors, taylor swift  or Van Gough, picasso, louise fishman, monet, luke shepard, remington or a thousand other famous dudes and dudettes....

the bottom line is that  they are all defined by their willingness to take a leap of faith - that someone out there  would think their stuff is awesome......

there has to be a terrific element of excellence to get to the the top such as these fine folks... but there is a whole bunch of people that also qualify as artists... because they were willing to put their souls out there ... as many people here on Chordie do all the time....to express something that is important to them...... through painting or music.... risking criticism.... hoping for praise........

trying to reach another ... igniting a spark .... a reaction.....a sharing of similar emotion....... ( God knows Bill gets us all going smile  )
There are so many talented performers herein many different ways - way beyond what I can do... yet they make me feel like I am a part of the Chordie artistic family...... and that feels great.

Jim Valvano ( college Basketball coach ) who died of cancer, and who is the reason for the Jimmy V fund for cancer research said " there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.

I happen to agree

an artist , in my opinion, is anyone that can reach others and stir emotions.... through whatever means they can... to think, to act, to feel, to cry, to laugh, to love, to smile, to remember, to empathize, to connect.....

to plant many shade trees we may never sit under....
In the words of Agnes demille.....

“The artist never entirely knows — We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark , with great faith that what we have done has relevance and heartfelt significance"

just sayin'..................    when I read all the songs and poems, both triumphs and tragedies,  on here, I know they are genuine and intensely real life stuff -the chordie stock get togethers - thats real artist stuff -    the sharing human stories, of love and sorrows, and straight from the heart - so refreshing.  every one on chordie in my humble opinion is an artist, and  I thank you all for sharing your artistic ability with me.

Bill, no worries. No competition from me - just trying to do good for a friend.  I have no ill feeling at all about doing what you ask.  I am 100% sure no one cares about outdoing anyone- heck - I can't sing or play that well to be competitive.  We are all friends in this digital space.  I hope I didn't offend anyone - jim

Thanks Jan
Hope you feel the same after you hear me play and sing smile

sounds like a guy brought a woman into the country to marry - after she got there --- she wanted more - dumped him - didn't need him any more - even though he loved her massively

good music and voicing though Phill - you still got it man !!
