I saw a few vids on youtube where he was playing several licks along with his sideman I think Jim Croce was more then qualified to handle the fills himself but the addition of Maury helped in other ways as he also sang harmony
Remember, Croce was playing pretty much straight rhythm chords on these cuts. It was his sideman, Maury Muehleisen, who was doing all the cool licks.
I have played this song a few times I suggest finding some easy chords that you are satisfied with because playing it like Jim Croce requires a lot of descending lines and fills I can play them but I have been playing for quiet a few years and dont have a problem with it for someone with less experience then I the easiest arrangement that you feel comfortable with would be the way to go keep in mind there was a fine lead player that accompanied him who also perished along with Jim in the plane crash that played a lot of the fills it was a tragic loss to the music world but its nice to know his music lives on ![]()
it sounds like a good song and it takes time to learn the tweeks in the Audacity program but it has that "lonesome" cowboy feel to it nice job Wayne ![]()
real nice photo there wayne looks like the little guy is having a lot of fun playing with you thanks for sharing ![]()
if you leave the first string open its an Fma7 (strumming 4 strings)so you will have to mute the first string and play the chord as xx321x which is the way mekidsmom and bonner describe ![]()
Well done toots and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours ![]()

Thanks my lady glad you enjoyed,it seems everyone dose not hear it the same way I think the speakers have a lot to do with that and who knows maybe Hill Mcgraw will hear it some day Phill did a great job on the lyrics and arrangment ![]()
Yes play the notes E F# G# and then the A chord so in effect your playing the E chord 1 beat and the notes on 2 3 and 4 and the A chord on the 1st beat of the next measure if you dont read music it would be on the E string open for the 1st note 2nd fret for F# and 4th fret for the G# before strumming the A chord change this will keep your timeing right so you dont drag in out to long remember theres only 4 beats in a bar in 4/4 time and 2 in 2/4 time (cut time like in a polka song) give it a shot and good luck
Thanks Russell
If I reverse that will it get the sound I want? The little thing when Luther Perkins changes from E to A in Folsom Prison Blues. I know they played it all sorts of different ways, slow, fast, different keys. But when I attempt it, I try the simple approach and do it in E but I just can't get the part between the chords. I draw it out way too long and it just doesn't sound right.
"R" you dont walk down from E to A you walk up,you can walk down from A to E useing the notes A G# F# To E because A is the 4th tone or interval (step) in the E scale and E is the 5th tone or interval in the key of A
Can't figure out how to walk down to open A from open E, like in Folsom Prison Blues. When I do it sounds like I Walk The Line. Maybe too many notes or the wrong ones, I don't know. Can somebody point me in the right direction.
Thanks, "R"
and a merry Christmas to you Wayne glad ya dropped by I mixed up the play list with some of my own songs as well as traditional Christmas songs the song "the first Christmas" I composed last year along with Aleta,I invisible star and Abednego,"Mary did you know" is a Mark Lowery composition and "deck the halls" is my arrangement on Keyboards thanks for taking time to visit and your nice comments
Doug its going down to minus zero tomorrow and we expect up to 14" of snow with 40 mph winds a real blizzard so I will be staying inside and nuking up some cocoa and throw an extra blanket on perhaps Tiger can lend me one of his spare "ladies" to snuggle with ![]()
StranSongs on behalf of Phill and myself thanks for the nice comment and I will keep an eye out for the movie on Ian Dury happy holidays
Hi Russ and Phil,
loved this! I'm not getting into any old chat about mixes and sounds - my hearing is sparse at the best of times. See the poem post.
Also talking about Sex and drugs and Rock and Roll - apparently there's a movie about Ian Dury ( and the Blockheads) coming out in January. It is supposed to be excellent with a real seventies feel.
The free Picasa program will resize you photos and more I use it for making covers for my CD's as you can add text over the photos in all colors and sizes and its great for cleaning up,cropping, adding effects, and best of all its free. ![]()
Nice offering Pastor those songs are all classic hymns every year I put up almost all christmas songs on my website to pay honor to the season and its meaning have a wonderful holiday season ![]()
I agree with Doug on the Sure mic's they give a good recording and are durrable I have had the same two mic's for going on 20 years and I used them on gigs and recordings ![]()
thanks Wayne for your comments and long live rock and roll sex and prescriptions ![]()
Ark thanks I dont know about the myspace connection it sound ok to me the guitar sound is intentional and only occurs on the chorus as far as ourstage is concerned I think its a waste of time and your talent but thats your choice I had a bad experience with them but you know how I am
good luck with it
Nice one gentlemen.
Great composition and and structure to the song Phill and Russ's added guitar skills gave the piece added interest.
I listened through headphones levels sound ok but Myspace or my broadband connection give rubbish playback with some distortion any chance of the original MP3 so I can have a listen out of cyberland?
Not sure if the mix was a cat in a floppy lift (UK terminology)![]()
Just a thought give it a go in Ourstage charts next month (though I guess Russ might not approve)
ark
Top thats the funniest thing I have seen this year ahh true love ![]()
Sure its my fault you listen with crappy speakers
it sounded right in my headphones when I mixed it and when I play it back on my surround sound hookup to my PC which cost a whopping $49.95 at Walmart but that aside Phill did a wonderful job with the composistion I have been a fan of his music for some time and I did give him the option of keeping what I gave him or the limp elevator version better known as the pussy mix ![]()
groannn
but I will use it ![]()
