thanks tony, i've finally figured out how to get my recordings up-loaded (with reasonable quality) on windows 7.
i had to look back to see how "hard to sleep" went, i tend to forget songs after i've finished recording them! i've just done a new backing track for "colonial" it's one that has stuck in my head and i shall be doing it in my live sets.
russ, i hope to be busy my self shortly too and for the same reason, my DP24 is on order and hopefully be at my door soon!

hi fallan, welcome to chordie.
thanks for introducing yourself, but you should know that it is frowned upon to use an on-going thread to open a new subject. we would prefer it if you opened your own thread by clicking on "new post" at the top right of any of the forums. be assured that if you have any questions or tips we will be happy to listen and help. each forum deals with a particular subject, this one for example is for and about songwriting. if you just want to chat about anything relating to music or other interests, go to the "chat" forum lower down.

ps, where in wales are you? i'm from llanelli.
i dont understand why people just repeat what someone else has posted? unless they intend to return at a later date and add spam. so be warned you are being watched.
if you have nothing to say, say nothing. dont just copy for the sake of it.

i've noticed for years that the tone muffles when the volume gets turned down. i just didn't realise it could be fixed. i've been using an FX pedal and used the volume pedal as and when required. i have to now more than ever as i also use a Digitec live vocalist on stage and that uses the guitar volume to set the harmony level on the out-put. but it's nice to know about such things for future reference.
so thanks phill
rog the answer to that must be....stop looking in the mirror, i did years ago...lol
hi OOp, welcome to chordie. unfortunately as you've stated, the guitar has been left in a gig bag for sometime, was it near a heat source? if so, it appears that the arm has warped slightly and you may need to take it to a good guitar doctor to sort out. i dare say this wont be cheap and it may not cure the problem.
on the other hand it may just need a little filing done to reduce the height of the fretts, best to leave that to the guitar doctor too.
sorry i cant think of an easy fix.

Hi Tommy, very nice, a little sad but with a positive note for the future.
I notice you mention "song" in there, will we see (or hear) a tune for this?
phill
as an FYI thing, i'm a UK captive and when i tried russ's link i got blocked too. i dont really care as i have all the beatles songs in book form, but i thought i'd look anyway.
i'm not going, just wanted to say that it's a bit sad when you have to pay top dollar to see a home town band. enjoy all the same, wish i could come.

The "you" in this song is actually me and the millions of Brits that have the same opinion as me. The world knows that Maggie Thatcher (the "demonic heart" in this song) died this week. She died a multi-millionaire yet the Tory government still wants the British tax payer to pay for her funeral and all the regalia that goes with a state funeral which the non-millionaires are dead against, and will cost several million pounds. This at a time when the Tory government are cutting child welfare, old age pensions, hospital services and lots of other stuff that our parents and grandparents worked hard to get for us, which Thatcher and her cronies have been whittling away at since the 80's. If the words of this song offend you then I appologise, but it is my opinion and I stand by it. Phill
thank you roger cos i thought "huh" too. when people write posts that make no sense i wait for the spam to come along, so well done fire art
I hear Pete Townsend is a master of this technique! ![]()
welcome Onenumberseven to Chordie

is it me, or do you look like Paul Mccartney?.....no offense meant
hi rog, having read your post i thought i'd give reaper a try, i've had it on my PC for a while, but couldn't do anything with it. so i tried it again as i've now become more conversant with my USB interface (scarlett) and found that there is a few choices when you start it up the first time. i know that input 1&2 are for mics, 3&4 are audio sources and there are others for midi etc. these will be different for other interfaces.
so go to the start menu
click reaper which should give you a drop down
go to "show audio config"
then set bit rate, audio ins and outs etc
this is what i did and i had no problem getting a track in from my MD.
hope this helps, if i can clarify for you give us a call

un-powered mixers must have a little power in them to push the signal to (eg) powered speakers or recorder or PC, therefor just about any mixer that does not have the "mixer/amp" tag will do the job. i use an alesis multimix8 usb, which i find gives excellent quality sound, has phantom power and has many on-board FX. there are many others on the market so shop around and get the one that fits your purpose.
happy april to all. i was looking through my songs and noticed that i'd written 7 new songs in march plus 2 instrumentals! i recorded them and transferred them to CD which i've been listening to all week-end. there are a lot of errors but hey-ho. if you'd like to give them a listen and comment on them you can find them on SoundClick, just click on the link at the bottom. then click my name under the picture.
thanx

thanks roger for doing this and especially for posting the original thread, just reading through it now gave me a lovely warm feeling inside.
2008, cor, has it been that long? i was working then and enjoying my job, i'd still be there today but they decided to close the plant.
it was also nice to be reminded of some old friends i haven't heard from for a while.
ah! tips and tricks?
most important is that you sing in a key that is comfortable for your voice.
practice scales and keep your throat lubricated, (i like beer my-self) water can help in extreme cases, but not milk as that makes your saliva all thick. sorry to be so crude.
i've often found that a good sherry or brandy will help loosen and soothe the throat and voice box, gargle and take it down as far as you can before retching, then swallow (i recommend that bit)
i was recommended some stuff called Sandersons, it was a throat de-sensitiser an could only be obtained at a pharmacist or chemist. and it tastes like nothing you'd ever want in your mouth, but it works.
hope i've given you some advice that might help.

the reason why toni used thimbles was that he cut the tops of those fingers off while he was working a press before the sabbath days
i saw a documentary about it last year, but i'm not sure they were thimbles, maybe plastic?
i've had a tax rebate too, but i'm not going to get much of a guitar for £17......congrats, hope you and your new acquisition have a long and happy life together.
NO SORRY, there's just too many songs.
possibly "Scandal" by Queen edges it this week...something else next week
the strongest drug i have ever taken is paracetamol, therefore the "Sunday joint" was just that, a nice piece of British beef (as opposed to European horse meat) a big thing in the UK at the moment
can you play F#m? just leave the top and bottom strings open (if you can) and there you have it
it's quite simple really as most BH songs are. it's in the key of "A"
the verse is D-A-E-A|-D-A-E-A
then the "changing all those changes" part goes to E......A, then back to D-A-E-A
