Re: Total newbie request for assistance (27 replies, posted in Recording)
Zurf the mixer pictured has left and right rca "outs" you can plug a Y cord with 2 rca jacks it cost around $4.00 at radio shack you dont need a usb interface the rca Y chord with stereo 1/8"mini plug and rca jacks will work fine. Green bullet? if thats a harmonica a Honer blues harp will do the trick they cost around 30 bucks
I saw that kit on Musician's Friend, but I didn't see where it has a USB or Firewire output. How did you know that mixer would interface with a computer? Or would it require an go-between thingydoody for a few hundred more?
Now let's talk microphones. That kit comes with two microphones that look well suited for voice. Given that this is mostly just for kicks, I figure that's fine. To add two more mics, so that I could have a couple on voice and a couple on guitars or a guitar and upright bass or some such, is there anything in particular that I'd need? Of course, if I ever decide to pull my harmonicas out of their Crown Royal bag and use them again, I'd want a green bullet. But other than a green bullet, what would be appropriate?

Re: Total newbie request for assistance (27 replies, posted in Recording)
Thanks KajiMa and if you get a chance check out "loop de blues" the sound is comming from my powerpod (with a little help from the Boss ME-50 effects) I think Zurf will welcome any good suggestions and you have presented some good ones did you notice if the price included shipping? thats usually another $70 dollars for that much gear if you can locate a better deal for him by all means help thanks again for your comments
No slight intended Russ, but the Powerpod only has 4 inputs and Zurf wants 8. I find these powerpod type mixer amps are great if you already have stomp boxes and other kit, but for uses other than live where everyone has their own kit to get the sound they want, I've found their limitations quickly become apparent and necessitate upgrading or buying other stuff to overcome these problems. Also this solution would need the purchase of a recording device or a sound card/break out box to get the audio into the computer.
I will sit back and continue to let you advise Zurf on his Potastudio (it's been so many years since I used one!) as I can see that you're well on the ball!
PS: LOVE Old Dogs Need Some Lovin', Russ (sorry I didn't leave a comment). The sound/feel you've got going on there is COOL AS MUSTARD!

Hi Zurf first the tascam porta-05 sells used for around 100 dollars I have google up several if you can get a electric guitar or a mic and hook the unit up and plug into it if you dont have an amp use headphones if its a cassette model pop an empty cassette into it rewind it to the beginning and let it run a few seconds stop and push play record at the same time and sing or play something into it for a minute rewind push play and see if its ok,there are some micro recorders available with 4 track capabilities for around $100 or so Musicians friend has all kinds of used and new equipment also Amazon do some shopping perhaps some other members can offer some more information, a good deal I got is the Phonic PA a 100 watt amp with speakers chords, and a good microphone for $199.00 including shipping the model is a Phonic powerpod 410 I got this from Musicians friend I would check there for all of the things you need at least you can get a good idea what its going to cost and keep it in your budget you may find a better deal someplace else but this will give you a reference to go by other ideas welcome ![]()

You got that right! sturgis is a bike rally aint it I saw a few videos it looks like Harley heaven and your right about the ladies some friends have attended a few actually made it back
I have a good time jamming with most anyone have a great time in Sturgis and a safe trip and get some photos of your trip and share if you can
I think finding the right person to jam with is the hardest for me. You gotta have the similar musical background and tastes in music. I am pretty sure I would have a great time jammin with you.
I am just heading out to the Sturgis Rally, and I have my guitar packed and ready, the gals in the campgrounds seem to love guitars, even if I can't play worth a darn I can fake it.

Thanks Wayne
yea a bass adds a lot and helps with freeing your creative jucies playing with backing tracks is a really good way to improve your timing and expression the drum machine (frowned on by some) sharpens your tempo to a razors edge all the bass notes were anticipations which gives it a funky kick but working with other musicians is more rewarding to be sure and if you cant this is the best way for me to go and no arguments plus everyone shows up for the gig
Love it Russ! I think I might have to get a bass now. Music is just a great way of entertaining yourself. I sometimes play with backing tracks for hours.

Re: burning CDs (25 replies, posted in Recording)
Actually there are members signed up on Chordie that have volunteered to help with just that look in the "members willing to help" topic in gray in this forum and if the results in the studios are poor or mediocre why spend the money? in order to have someone mix your tracks here you would have to render(make) mp3's of each track and send them to whoever agrees to mix them for you from the list of engineers
Hi Russell,
Do you mean you take your mixed demo to the studio for re mixing or do you mean you do the whole recording process in the studio ?One the whole the best (but also the worst) recordings I have heard locally have been by guys on home recordings. Local studios here seem to have produce some very mediocre stuff which (in the scheme of things) seems quite expensive.

Re: submitting songs (4 replies, posted in Recording)
Mikeshead you will need two things a program like Audacity or Reaper to convert them to mp3's and a online site like myspace or soundclick to upload them to all you have to do is provide a link to the site this is a link to Audacity a free program just download it
http://www.free-download-place.org/auda … 9156694511
next you will need to open a band or artist account with myspace or an account with soundclick both are also free, and finely if you download the audacity program I have a link at the bottom of this post to medifire that has free tutorials on how to use it,everything from the chords you will need from your boss 900 to the computer and how to make a mp3 if you need any help with any of this give a shout here ![]()

Re: Expecting things for free (39 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I'm not promoting socialism but your definition is inaccurate this is from Wikipedia
Socialism refers to any one of various theories of economic organization advocating public or cooperative worker self-ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal access to resources for all individuals with a more egalitarian method of compensation.[1][2][3] Modern socialism originated in the late 18th-century intellectual and working class political movement that criticized the effects of industrialization and private ownership on society. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution and become the transitional stage from capitalism to communism.[4][5]
The utopian socialists, including Robert Owen, tried to found self-sustaining socialist communities within a capitalist society. Henri de Saint Simon, the first individual to coin the term socialism, was the original thinker who advocated technocracy and industrial planning. The first socialists predicted a world improved by harnessing technology and combining it with better social organization, and many contemporary socialists share this belief.[6][7] Early socialist thinkers tended to favor an authentic meritocracy combined with rational social planning, while many modern socialists have a more egalitarian approach.
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, creates an unequal society, and does not provide equal opportunities for everyone in society. Therefore socialists advocate the creation of a society in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly based on the amount of work expended in production, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how and to what extent this could be achieved.
Socialism is not a concrete philosophy of fixed doctrine and program; its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split between reformists and the revolutionaries on how a socialist economy should be established. Some socialists advocate complete nationalization of the means of production, distribution, and exchange; others advocate state control of capital within the framework of a market economy. Socialists inspired by the Soviet model of economic development have advocated the creation of centrally planned economies directed by a state that owns all the means of production. Others, including Yugoslavian, Hungarian, German and Chinese Communists in the 1970s and 1980s, instituted various forms of market socialism, combining co-operative and state ownership models with the free market exchange and free price system (but not free prices for the means of production).[8]
Social democrats propose selective nationalization of key national industries in mixed economies, with private ownership of property and of profit-making business. Social democrats also promote tax-funded welfare programs and regulation of markets. Many social democrats, particularly in European welfare states, refer to themselves as "socialists", introducing a degree of ambiguity to the understanding of what the term means.
Libertarian socialism (including social anarchism and libertarian Marxism) rejects state control and ownership of the economy altogether and advocates direct collective ownership of the means of production via co-operative workers' councils and workplace democracy

Steve whats your point? it seems you are trying to rationalize your reasons for the same topic you opened in the Chordie editors forum of charging a fee for your input my response is the same no, that's why we have a theory forum it would be no different if I charged to download all the Audacity tutorials I offer free and to date over a thousand downloads have been served by my mediafire account free to members plus several hundred photos and mp3's of original material as I see it there will always be sites that charge for lessons or services but Chordie is special its like family,I see nothing wrong with making a buck if we had a classified forum perhaps all manner of merch could be offered to members from lessons to instruments and even links to songs for sale but since all advertising for lessons is paid for at present it seems unlikely.
