Thanks for the early morining chuckle its amazing how many songs follow the cirlcle or cycle up or down its a formula that works

And Russ, as far as chord progressions go...

It's only funny 'cause it's true.
I like to play an exercise with the circle forward and backward like forward it would be
C F Bb Eb Ab Db F# B E A D G C of course there are inharmonic equivalents with Bb(A#) Eb(D#) Ab(G#) Db(C#) and F#(Gb) but you get used to the sound of playing in forths or 5ths Jimmy Hendrix like it so much he wrote a big hit useing the cycle(or circle) of 5ths exclusively remember HEY JOE? C G D A E over and over
Good question, the extremes of temperatures are both different environments to deal with. In the winter a space heater used to provide heat is very costly and much caution needs to be used in order not to ignite anything flamable,in the summer I dont think a fan is equiped to deal with the humidity at tempertures in the high 80s and 90s I live in Wisconsin and face similar weather conditions perhaps even more extreme and idea could be to have all the members of the band chip in for a good combination air conditioning and heating system in my opinion a fan and a space heater aint gonna get it done
Good luck with your new recorder and if you can let us hear some recordings

I finally took the plunge and picked up the Zoom H2 digital recorder.
I am blown away by the sound on this little guy. Honestly, this is the best unit I could have bought for myself. It's simple enough to understand from the get-go, and the sound is awesome (did I say that already?)
mikeshead: One of the things I really wanted to do was see the unit in action, but unfortunately, no one was willing to open anything up for me (understandable). And I didn't see your message about the online manual until after I had made my purchase. But thanks!
So, happy recording to everyone... and thanks (once again).
Anastasia
It may be possible to tune a guitar one octave higher then standard pitch but the string tension would be so great the strings would snap in a very short time or the neck would, first it would sound like a capo on the 12th fret and since there is 40lbs of pressure at normal tuning that would double and I dont think I would wish to be around it when it explodes
cytania wrote:RH, on my first guitar course someone turned up with their guitar perfectly in tune but one octave too high. Strings were incredibly tight but being a beginner they didn't know how they should feel. Aferall there's all that talk of developing callouses and finger strength!
none taken
I know after 50 yrs of playing a guitar some things which are actual from having encountered them over and over thru the years, keep suggesting things if you feel they will help I have been known to be wrong on occasion
I live in Port Washington Wisconsin and I'm blocked my IP 174.102.142.90
Thanks Steve glad you enjoyed the tunes,I think a collaborated composition would be a cool idea but the snag is chopro is not equipped to add notes only chords and lyrics I'm not sure how it could be accomplished, I have seen this idea of lead sheets in another thread but like photos it would have to be uploaded to flickr or another host site so a link to the sheet could be provided interesting idea
There is no secret to belting out a tune just imagine yourself singing to some people across the street without a microphone, its the same as shouting you cant shout without useing your diaphram to force the air out of your lungs the same technique is applied in singing it takes practice but anyone can belt a tune out if they can shout
If the guitar is in tune on all the open strings and not in tune when fretted it is a intonation problem ie. old strings, truss rod or bridge or all three, on standard head stocks the tuning pegs are wrapped counter clockwise on the E A D strings and clockwise on the G B E accept a fender type setup where all the strings go counter clockwise and even if they were wrapped in the wrong direction this would not cause the guitar to be out of tune when fretted if it is in tune open Change the strings
I started out with 3 chords my mom showed me and played by ear for quite a few years professionally (over 40) and learned to read both standard notation and finger picking I compose all my songs some I just make chord charts and others I arrange phrases and use notation to help other musicians on my recording sessions but I find its easier to video tape a practice or jam because creativity is spontaneous and there's no time to notate also the "feeling" and syncopation can be recalled easier by watching and listening,I think notation and reading have there place of importance but any lead sheet is left to the interpretation of the person reading it and is not exact it is only a guide
Stephen I think he's referring to scales in two octaves or more
john here is a free program that has all the scales chords and a choice of instruments to play the notes or the scale pattern its called Guitar Alchemist this link is a free version just choose the free and download it takes only a few seconds to setup
http://www.guitaralchemist.com/index-1.html
Mostly the 50s,60s and 70s some 80s a few 90s but after that zilch
I also like Marie Ellen and standing at the top of the stairs very original ideas keep them comming well done Phill
the easiest stumm is D U D U D U D U and is counted as 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & keep it slow and even and keep repeating it till you can play it faster this will help with your meter
merrickk if your friend has a computer there are some online metronomes that can be set for any meter to practice to also there are inexpensive drum machines that are adjustable with regards to tempo even the free audacity program has a click track that can be adjusted for any tempo to practice to if she has a computer otherwise there are metronomes that are digital as well as the old fashion reliable pendulum type
I dont think you can tune a string an octave up without it snapping
replace the strings first and then try it may need a truss rod adjustment if its a fixed bridge theres not much you can do there but I think the new strings will help a lot if that dont solve the issue take it to a music store and get it checked out
Phill a well thought out apocalyptic ditty I cant think of anything I think you pretty well covered the bases is this uploaded?
Stephen I would suggest checking out the various modes of each scale and practice these, the melodies they impart are stored in your memory after time and practice you subconsciously find yourself useing them and they add dexterity and precision to your fretting
Lieven boys and girls have been getting together all over this planet since the Jurassic period for a date, Europe is no different, prom is a high school graduation party I'm sure they celebrate in similar fashion all over the world they just have another name for it,a girl rejecting a boys offer of a date is not indigenous to America one of the many traumas teenagers endure after puberty
linusguitar Chordie dose not host files but if you upload it to a site like myspace or youtube or mediafire all you need to do is provide a link there are other sites that host videos perhaps some other member can provide additional info
fear not I will not hurt your feelings only offer construtive comments ya gotta take the plunge the waters fine
hi minette yea it is a little tough to try and read and scroll at the same time but if you have a printer you can print the song if you dont you can copy and paste it into your word program and change the size of the font (letters) so there a little smaller and it fits so you can see all of the words and chords but a printer would be nice
