Cool.  I would like some colorful orchids, like you'd see on a Hawaiian shirt.  These are all danger/violence related, skulls, razorwire, ninja stars, etc.  Not ALL really, there are the crosses and doves, but those aren't my style either.  My style is more "dork".

The unofficial president of Loudoun County would welcome the unofficial king of Scotland with great fanfare, pomp and circumstance.  Either that or I'd shake one of your hands, stuff a beer in the other, and show you where the campfire is.

In that you enjoy camping, if you come into the Washington, DC area and need some gear, let me know.  I'd be happy to pick you up from the airport and lend you whatever gear you need.  I enjoy showing off the natural wonders of my area.  I don't hit the monuments on tours, but I do show off my rivers and woods.  Plus wineries.  Virginia is slowly becoming more renowned as a wine producer.  They claim to be equal to many European wines.  While I'm not sure about that, I am sure that it's decent wine in beautiful environs.  There's usually a winery or two between this river and that wood to take care of the thirst that comes upon one while travelling.

My wife is OK with a jamm on Saturday, June 13 at my house.

This will be a mellow affair.  If the weather's good, we'll have a campfire and play around it in the back yard.  There is power nearby if someone absolutely must have an amp.  Otherwise, let's go acoustic.  If weather is poor, we'll move it into my finished basement.  It may be a bit cramped, and there are toys everywhere as that's where my kids play, but it's warm, dry, and comfortable.

I'm thinking a late afternoon into the evening, drop in sort of thing.  I'll host it at my house, and provide some waters, some beer (if no one objects - I'd rather have folks come by than have beer if that's what stands in the way of someone coming), and some soda.  We'll have to eat something along the line, so I'll provide some snacky things and maybe have some appetizers prepared.   I'm not planning on this being a dinner thing, but if folks want to turn it into a pot-luck I could probably be convinced.

E-mail me using the link provided by Chordie and let me know if you plan to come.  I've already got Jets60, Detman101, and one of my neighbors saying that they're in.  I've sent an e-mail to Oldnewbie to let him know, and will let a couple of my fishing/paddling/picking friends know about it too.  It'd be nice if we could get six or so guys to "swap" songs in turn, and do some teaching, some learning, and some critiqueing (if requested) in a safe and friendly environment where everyone's just having fun.

Back to a jamm session mode.  It looks like we're on.  I'll start a new thread as this one is somewhat old and got sidetracked (no complaint there as I assisted in hijacking my own thread, just a statement that it's so).

That is an acceptable exception to the rule.  Dang.  I know what you mean, though.  I'm very grateful that it's been a while for me, but I do know what you mean.

It is acceptable to give away an instrument, but never to sell one.  That's my philosophy.  I've broken the concept a time or two, and am contemplating it again as I go through a "I don't need this thing cluttering up my life anymore" phase.  But by and large, that's how I go about it.

It is correct.  There is no reason.

Rarely.  If I'm shuffling between F#m and G, I'll use the barre form of G.  Pretty much that's the only time I'll do it.

Sittin arouind a campfire and playing with friends gets you high, Zurf.  Of course you get high.

That's not what JD was talking about.  At least not according to the woman who was his wife at the time and was along on the trip about which this song was written.  The "I've seen it raining fire in the sky..." was about a meteor storm they saw with great clarity in an open air high-altitude campsite.  "Friends around a campfire and everybody's getting high..." was exactly what it sounds like.

Sorry for your loss Topdown.  My mom died suddenly of heart failure in 1995 on the Wednesday after Mother's Day.  I have missed her every day since.  The timing of her passing was fortuitous in that the last thing she heard from each of her four children was "I love you Mom."  I'm not big on Mother's Day as a result.  My wife understands, God bless her.  My kids made some real nice cards for her, I built her some landscaping beds with the plants her presents from me, and my eldest is making dessert for her tonight ( a day late, but appreciated nevertheless ).

I love the international "flavors" of music and perspective.  It certainly helps to understand what is just music, and what is a perspective on music.  Also, y'all are cool.

Counting is incredibly useful.  It's not absolutely necessary, but it is incredibly useful.  It helps to distinguish between a rapid strum pattern on a moderate tempo and a rapid tempo.  It is also very useful for things like figuring out rhythm, which is exactly what a strum pattern is.

As far as the intro to Blue Suede Shoes, I'm afraid I'm not going to be helpful with that.  I haven't listened to it in a very long time.

I'm sure he's quite good.  I was giving him a little good natured ribbing about his playing getting him beat up and electrocuted.

Can't get it.  Harumph.

Any suggestions?

I love that song for two lines - the first being the one about friends singing around the campfire (though I don't get high) and the other about seeing it raining fire in the sky.  The intro is absolutely an essential riff to getting that song.  The tabs I've seen are not helpful (to me).

Just landscaping.  "Annuals" is a dirty word in our house.  Perennials all the way.  Just water 'em and forget 'em.  I prefer raised beds so that I can run a weed whacker along the edge and be done with it.

I do have a small area where I garden with my kids.  This year, they wanted to plant wildflowers instead of vegetables.  That's cool.  We put some in.  There's a sage plant that has absolutely taken over.  It's a monster movie - maybe "The Sage That Ate Cincinnatti" or something like that.  Anyway, it's huge.  And now it'll have a bunch of wildflowers growing around it.

I have an electric and enjoy it, but not near as much as my acoustic.

I do have a friend who's got a strong opinion.  He says that a guitar is like a Hoover.  Once you plug them in, they both suck.

Doc -

Folks from Virginia have three ways of saying it.  If they are from the Washington DC suburbs, they say I'm from Northern Virginia.  If they're from around Richmond, they generally go by the county they live in.  Folks from anywhere other than the Washington, DC suburbs or around Richmond say they are from Vajenya (trying to spell the accent with phonetics).

Folks from West Virginia generally say they are from Nameoftown, West (by God!) Virginia.  And it is God's country too.  West Virginia is a beautiful state.  There's a lot of poverty there, but it is beautiful.  By and large, the people are sensible and kind too.  The sort of person who'll ask before he helps you out of a jam.  They ask because they don't want to interfere where they aren't wanted, not because they're hoping you say no.  There's a few nutters, but you've got that anywhere.  What the government is letting the coal companies do to those mountains is shear lunacy.  There's a kind of coal mining now where they basically just blast the top of the mountains off and pick up the coal.  It completely destroys the environment and the beauty and is flat-out sinful.  There's a big movement to put an end to it.  You'd think we were in the early 19th century before anyone knew or cared what happened to the environment.

I wish I could skateboard with my grandson but I have to use a Fuzion Scooter to roll down hills with him.

I just looked up the 1976 RD400.  Cool.  I used to ride a 1976(ish) Kawasaki KH400 - very similar to your bike.  It wasn't mine, but I got to ride it some.   Motorcycles were best when there were four categories: street, dirt, mini, and Harley.

Well, it's your own fault for taking a SEALs seat on the bus.  You'll know better next time.

p.s.  Seriously, though, how cool is that?

Great.  Now I have to look up educable.

Easiest way - that's what I'm looking for!

Thanks Russell, and you too Southpaw.  I'll slide in a capo and see if that helps some.  My voice is a bit deeper than Dobie's.

I'm not sure.  I think I was playing it in G without a capo.  There was no "F" in the version I was playing.  It's all C's, G's, and D's.

B is evil and must submit to the capo.

Thanks for the fills and the progression.  Maybe some day I'll play like a grown up and be able to do stuff like that.
