no I picked up a book called "Fingerstyle"by lou manzi it came with a cd for each lesson and cost around $24.00 or you could get the book only for $12.50 after I was halfway through the lessons "dust in the wind, the boxer" were easy to pick and some merle travis and chet atkins plus a slew of other fine guitarist james taylor, leo kottke, rycooder as well as lightning hopkins and many more it was a bargin and I have been able to incorporate some of what I learned into my own style and songs it was slow going at first but I didn't move to the next lesson untill I could play the one I was on flawlessly and I would review all the lessons from the beginning to where I left off before moving on well it worked for me anyway the book was available at the now bankrupt "Mars Music" and I havent seen it in any music store but im sure its somewhere to be found the publisher is alfred and the national guitar workshop

well I knew jerry reed was involved with trucking songs and thats why I said "I think" because I wasn't sure thanks zurf for the info also your anology funny
I believe Convoy was C.W. McCall. I call those "talking country" songs. Freddy Fender did some. In fact, a LOT of folks did those talking country songs in the 70's. They'd sing a verse, the chorus twice, then they'd have a talking verse that ALWAYS seemed to start with "Darlin', now you know I love you..." and then would go on to explain that even though the singer loved Darlin' why he slept with half the women in the trailer park and was still pursuing the other half and generally saying completely ridiculous, inflammatory, and unreasonable things in a low, steady, calm, reasonable sounding voice (with lap steel guitar and brushed drum backup). Man, that was some crap. No wonder I went for the sissified folk/pop in the 70's.
Jerry Reed did do trucker songs, and did perhaps the most famous (other than Convoy) as the opening theme song for the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" - later released as a single named "East Bound and Down."

Jerome thanks for the look I really enjoyed the talents of the musicians I wish I could find one where I live but the choices are limited, thanks for the link
So who do you want in the pocket with you when you're a Big Rawk Star?
This week, in no particular order...
Victor Wooten - Good enough for Bella, good enough for me. And, well, he can do this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vdJvHE8qxA
Charles Mingus - Legend that played with the legends. Dude is so smooth he doesn't walk, he glides. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zOlv-BAx-8
Tony Sherrer - Does a complete BDSM act with his double bass. He spins it around. He slaps it unitl it behaves. He caresses it softly. He spanks it and makes it rock. I need a cigarette after I watch him play. And dig on the soprano trombone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0SKhNPY2CE
Les Claypool. - Dude is flat out insane. The master of weird. And Primus sucks. So does Buckethead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_8NtbKsYuA
You want the pocket? I mean, do you WANT THE POCKET? Here is the pocket. Watch. Learn. Terry Crayford is in the pocket. And Terry wants you to know there ain't no frets in the pocket. And I really dig this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2TrHDwn4lM

Ark I think i'll take your advise on this the only problem I have with I E is that the favorites load a little slow at times but it might be my pc running slow because i didn't run the delousing programs and eradicate the vermin
Russ Firefox is free..
There's a link to it on the front page of Chordie but if you got no probs with the I.E.7 browserI wouldn't bother.

Re: What style do you love to play? (21 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Tim I have played "Dust in the wind" its a finger style picking. very nice song there were a few songs in my younger days where you had to play the note for note or you were not concidered a good guitarist hense not hired but that neanderthal reasoning vanished as quickly as the bands who played them
Hey Russ ... I know you normally dont do covers ... but alot of songs I love such as Silent Lucidity by Queensryche or Dust in the Wind by Kansas sound simply amazing ... I imagine you do picking songs like that yes?
Pix ... I might have to look into Fly Me Courageous ... love that song but I've never looked at it for playability ... but in regards to Straight To Hell, a co-worker of mine came over to play (he plays bass) and me and my buddie jammed with him (he usually only plays heavy metal) ... we had him try out that song while we played acoustics and he loved it ... now he said he plays that one all the time lol

doc what you smokin?
I think MICHAEL JACKSON is A HERMAPHRODITE, who has both a va***a and a p**is.
Do you think he can make love with himself. He needs maybe thiny little hands who are able to help him without squeezing to hard.
SERIOUS I was told in a GOSSIP magazine that he used FEMALE HORMONES to keep his HIGH VOICE. A beard, a mustache: common!!!!!

Elmers glue and a C clamp, I was In a drunkin stupor and I passed out and fell into my accustic that was leaning against the wall and the next mornning I was horrified to see I had smashed the neck in two so a friend of mine came over and we removed the strings and sanded all the old glue away and re-glued it and put a c clamp on both sides and let it sit for a few days to dry after we removed the clamps and re-strung it, it needed a little truss rod adjustment and its been fine ever since I use it on all my recordings and the intonation is right on but not everyone is as lucky as I was so you might have to seek the help of a pro depending on the severerity of the damage

I find it hard to define what style i favor because I enjoy many differen't forms I like what I write the best because I know how to play it, Im not much good at cover songs I tend to express them or change them to what I like them to sound like im not a note for note copy technition its to regemented I favor a more free expressive style not that I couldent play the licks if i wanted to I read some classical music thats as structured as I care to get
