Welcome to Chordie, Tony - you've found a good place!
My only tip to add, is that if you don't already have an electronic tuner, then get one asap! Use it every time you practise - your guitar will sound so much better, & you will find that you can play along with music on CD's/radio.
Best of luck - the more you practise, the luckier you will get!

Sounds like a good buy to me! Thanks for the info on serial numbers, Pix, have just bought a Norman ST68, which I see was made in 1998. Really nice full, rich sound to it & a pleasure to play. My Norman B18 is from 2002 & the S&P SP6 is from 2004.
The B18 is up for sale now, (£140) due to large car repair bill, but for an "entry level" guitar is not too far behind the ST68 in sound etc, and the matt finish looks much nicer!
So, did you get it, Nela?

Karen Carpenter, of course, just a fabulous & unique voice. Also, Joni Mitchell, Kirsty MacColl, KT Tunstall, Amy MacDonald...

Can't help much with this, but welcome to Chordie - it's a good place to start!

MK is one of my faves. I sing "Romeo & Juliet" at open-mics, & it usually gets a good reaction! The album with Chet called Neck To Neck is a great one. Not a conventional singing voice, but unique & distinctive all the same.
Thanks Old Doll & Bensonp!

Great thread - must make a note of some of these places, especially those with the good fishing. Just popping out, darling, will be back in a month or so!
Best place I've been - New England in the Fall. Liked Boston, too.
Cheers!

Sounds like a great day! Reminds me of that song - "Kicking A Chicken With You"!! Was a bit worried about the reference to "shagging" - it means something quite different over here wink

What a generous offer! Please enter me in the draw. A Happy Christmas to you & yours!!
Cheers!

Hi Doc - yes, certainly like the idea of chat corner. Pleny of world-class chatterers on Chordie, I think, including your good self! I am not too far away, just across the Channel, so would love to see you one day for a chat & a jam, and to see your fabulous collection of guitars! Not sure where you are in Belgium, but have always wanted to see beautiful Bruges.
Not much good on jokes, but "What's brown & sticky?" - A stick.
Cheers (I hear you have some good beer!)
Paul.

Nice one Wayne. Tried to record something yesterday for y/tube, a song I know pretty well. Gave up after about the 8th take, kept fluffing it!

Thanks for the info Pix.I need to replace the saddles on a couple of my guitars, because the high e string has worn a groove in them. I wonder if this would still happen with bone or tusq? I suppose I just measure the old saddle as accurately as possible, & order the nearest size? Or would I have to get specific ones for my Norman B18 & S&P SP6??

Am learning a couple at the moment - "You do something to me" - Paul Weller (not too difficult, but can't quite sing it & don't want to transpose or use capo), & "Tears in Heaven" - Clapton. The latter thanks to Jamplay - but pretty difficult for me, am thinking I might never get this one!
Upyerkilt - thanks for the reminder about Caledonia, will look that up. Do Sassenachs need special permission from your majesty to play this??
Cheers!

Hi Zurf - that's a great story, was trying not to laugh too much cos of my sore back! As a fellow fisherman I do sympathise. I always think it's fatal to plan a birthday fishing trip - i've also had a few stinkers, though nowhere near as bad as yours! If I am planning a trip I keep it very low key, don't plan ahead too much & don't let the Fishing Gods know that I'm coming - just sneak down to the water. Sort of not tempting Fate!
Happy belated, anyway.
Cheers!

Old Doll - saw a small piece in the Times last Sunday about a company called Bundlebox. They can provide an address in the US for shipping, then ship on to anywhere else. I think that's how it works, anyhoo. Have never used them, can't endorse them etc & have no idea of cost involved!

A good film AND a buffet - excellent!
Don't tend to go out much to see movies around here - too much buffet-ing during the performance!
Cheers (cider)!

Thanks for that Guitarpix - the first clip has been removed from Y/tube but I watched the second one & some of the other clips on there about Mr Somogyi. Don't know much about art, but that is art!
The piece about how the top & back vibrate made me think of another post where someone mentioned the John Pearse armrest - just looked this up again at www.jpstrings.com/armrest. The basic idea is to keep your arm away from the guitar top so that you are not damping the sound. Looks like something a skilled person such as yourself could make!
Cheers! (today, cider, I think)!

Hi Old Doll - that tickles me too, think I heard it first from Sir Terence Wogan. I think it was a heckle during a famous Irish play "Playboy of the Western World"? I may well be wrong on that.
Thanks for the link - love that song, in fact just about any Ry Cooder. Am a bit worried that the house may be falling over though, or is it just laidback!?
Cheers (the black stuff)!
