You guys are gonna LOVE the NEW CHORDIE layout!
The ENTIRE site is getting an overhaul... the forums may not have tons of new "features" - but fear not! Even if new features aren't implemented in the forums immediately, I think some new ones might be down the road. 1st and foremost is getting the main portion of the site beautified and working better. Who wants to say a big "hoo-rah" for less downtime in the near future??
DE - 7" isn't too bad! Lucky you!
Joe - has the wind stopped yet? Snow drifts are the worst. Roads can be clear in one area, and have a foot of snow on them just down the road. I hate that. FEET of drifts does NOT sound good. In fact, it sounds like guitar weather to me.
Per CNN:
• 40 inches of snow was recorded in Glengary, West Virginia; 39 inches fell in Philomont, Virginia; and Redhouse, Maryland, received 38 inches.
• 25.1 inches of snow at Central Park, the third-largest snowfall on record.
• More than 28 inches of snow at Dulles International Airport, the second-largest snowfall recorded there. Baltimore's BWI notched 29.2 inches.
• At least 14 people dead (six in North Carolina, three in Virginia, one in Kentucky, three in New York City and one in Maryland).
• 11 states declared states of emergency: Georgia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Virginia and West Virginia. Washington, D.C., has declared a "snow emergency."
• 8,569 flights canceled for Saturday and Sunday, according to FlightAware.com.
• More than 74,000 people without power.
WOWIE! And the flooding going on, holy crows! For those curious, here's a report from Weather.com: http://www.weather.com/storms/winter/news/winter-storm-jonas-blizzard-impacts-east-coast
Even if my area got hit with those kind of snowfalls, we'd have issues digging out. That's a LOT of snow in a short time. I can't imagine how it is in some of the areas that simply don't have sand or salt trucks and only little plows. I was just reading on the Northern Virginia DOT site (VDOT) that they use regular ole pick-up trucks in suburban areas to plow residential roads (and cul-de-sacs). The areas hardest hit just do NOT have the ability to handle it. I have to remind myself of this all the time while watching the news.
We have big trucks. All pick-ups with plows are privately owned for plowing driveways, parking lots and private roads. You won't ever see a pick-up with their plow down on a public road. We don't just have big trucks, we have lots of them. The NY DOT even has 62 new Tow Plows! Of course, we're used to driving in it too. That makes a big difference. We use salt and chemicals too. Our vehicles rust faster as a result (ooooh! You bought a southern auction car? It's gotta be beautiful underneath, even if it IS 5 years old!)
I've been watching the news keeping an eye on you guys! We got hit last week - but it's "normal weather" for my area. I hear we sent a bunch of snow plows over toward Long Island to help out. Sounds like we should have sent them to Virgina instead (although... Long Island doesn't really own any plows, compared to Zurf's town just not keeping them working).
Um... Joe... I think "State of Emergency" means that no one is leaving their homes, and you shouldn't too. Sit down, relax. Wait for it to pass. (You are in a State of Emergency aren't you? I think everyone in the big colorful areas of the map are). Of course, I realize who I'm talking to. It's much like when I tell Jim he's too sick to go to work and he says, "no such thing". Sigh...
Stay Safe Fellas!!!! OH... and keep it too. We don't want it up here. ![]()
A) How often do you visit Chordie - Usually Daily, sometimes several times per day
B) How often do you play guitar - At least weekly, sometimes daily, it depends (I am a fickle female)
C) Do you check out all topics- I ALWAYS check Chat Corner, and try to check on all topics
D) do you ever have a crack @ the original songs(other peoples) - eh - very rarely, I love to listen to them though! Songwriting is a forum I don't visit that often to be honest.
E) if yes how often - not often at all, I enjoy reading the lyrics and listening, if one strikes me I do try it out though (I did record another member's song a few years ago)
F) Do you visit members `Soundcloud` pages - Generally only if they include a link in their post - I prefer youtube videos to just sound recordings from members (I like to see ya!)
G) How long have you been a member - about 6 1/2 years (fun fact, I joined Chordie the day after I decided to learn how to play guitar)
If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 36 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you may live in Saskatchewan.
You can drive 110 kph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching ... because, what is there to hit anyway?
Yes, on the whole, Canada has even more wilderness than the US. Bigger bears and more moose too. Thanks for sharing those stats TF!
Hey Jim J - sounds like Doug's got you covered here, but I did want to just pop in and holler out a big ole: WELCOME TO CHORDIE!
I was watching this thread yesterday. I tend to get too technical so I didn't pop in with suggestions. I'll keep my eye on how you're doing with this though, and be happy to help out if you come across any issues I can help with. Doug is great - he knows the technical stuff and how to say it like a human though. You're in good hands!

It's certainly a bit concerning to know that loaded weapons could have made it through. On the other hand, I'm quite happy to know that security worked and they didn't make it through. Why assume many were missed? Maybe none were missed?
I've read and accept all your replies to my rant. It's not you guys that worry me, it's the ones that are not as responsible. I would dearly love to meet you colonials and I hope if I ever came face to face with one of your hairy creatures perambulating down main Street, that I could run fast enough to avoid it's Sunday roast😂
When I read the early posts I was shocked at the light hearted way you guys joked about buying guns at the airport car park! Then selling them at MacDonald's? The thought of people leaving high powered weapons in the boot, sorry trunk of their cars where junkies or bad people could break in and steal them is unthinkable.
I hope that one day I can get to meet you folks but please don't bring your oozies with you.
Phill - Funny thing, I never realized how different our counties landscapes were until Roger came here. Frankly, I never even thought about how large the USA is compared to ... well ... just about every other country, including mama England. The amount of "wild" over here is HUGE!
I found something online that stated that there are 11 US States larger than the UK. Keep in mind, we've got like 50 of em! Texas is almost 3 times the size of the entire UK. There's a LOT of undeveloped land here.
I live in a rural area. Where our house is, we only own 1 acre. However, we own a 17 acre plot of land nearby. It's connected to many more acres that are all untouched. Woods. Forrest. Watch out for bobcats. I can assure you, if you saw a bear on a "main" Road near me ... you'd be screaming for someone to get their gun, because that sucker would be rabid! In the woods, well that's another story. Even a back yard. My dad has a cool picture of one he took in HIS backyard.
I could be crazy, but I think Roger would vouch for us, as well as the massive amount of wooded area around here ... and he saw the contents of the gun cabinet in our home!
I do hope we can meet you someday!

Chrome and Firefox on a daily basis. I used to use IE only when a random website would say that it could ONLY behave with IE.
Edge tries to be edgy... blah. I make the kids use it because it integrates well with the whole system's parental controls. ![]()
What a lovely collection! Thank you Bill and Dondra for sharing it with us!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Well, I've told you Happy Birthday in a few different places and ways... so I'll do it here too!

UJB - and others that were at the PA gathering (Zurf) can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqHoL9 … oyARtYqgqg
BGD - https://soundcloud.com/joe-lilly/ (I know he's got youtube vids somewhere but I can't for the life of me find them)
Not sure about TF...
And... just for Bill and Dondra I JUST recorded this. One take, all mistakes included, no editing... sorry for the horrid moments, but it's me.
Love you two, and the clear love you have for one another.
"The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson (butchered by me, for you): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_iBG8_ … e=youtu.be
Happy New Year to you all that are ready for bed after a long night of celebrating! I'm just waking up with my coffee now... ready to begin celebrations in about 12 hours or so. Bushy and Chevo come to mind in Australia, alas... I can't seem to find any links to their stuff.
But especially, I'd like to wish BILL a very happy birthday! May your have your lovely Dondra home asap in your arms, safe and healthy -- I hope she's feeling better! May your day be blessed.
While it's not yet indexed on Chordie, I'm sure it will be soon! In the meantime, you can find it online at multiple locations. It's available at ultimate guitar: https://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/l/litt … sh_crd.htm
That's a pretty good song to practice with. I've been doodling around with it myself. As you're probably familiar with the song, you know there's a lot more singing than musical frills, and it's pretty much played like a waltz.... meaning, you are going to basically play each chord for 4 beats. To help with tempo and chord changes, I suggest just simply doing one down strum for each beat. Good luck! Have fun!
Awe shucks... thanks guys!

Dear Folks
We're back in the hospital and it looks like we will be over the New Year's Holiday, so I won't be able to make it for our on-line musical celebration. I'm sorry and I'll check back in as soon as I can.
Thanks
Bill
So sorry to hear about this Bill! We'll be thinking of you!!!!!
Here Bill, if this website is correct - it'll give you the time (in your timezone) when everyone else hits the New Year across the world (ie: New Zealand, Thursday 6am est): http://www.timeanddate.com/counters/firstnewyear.html
Thanks for including the link to the song UJB - and thanks for reporting it Home Sweet! ![]()
Chordie is currently undergoing some changes... I'm not sure if these are going to rectify the issues or not... but stay tuned to a change coming VERY SOON! Hopefully this will fix those rogue pages. ![]()
Sounds good Bill. One big ole NYE party thread with links to various songs.
I may pop in and out. The hubby and I plan to play our guitars for a bit... who knows... maybe there will even be a new recording to share, or maybe not. We shall see!
There's a couple new cajóns in the house this week... maybe we can even get the kidlets in on the action.
Hey there Bill! I like your idea, however I'm not quite sure how that would work out. I mean... I *think* I could make a portion of that work... however... I also think I'm over thinking it.
Maybe if folks wanted to toss up a youtube video with some of their music playing and a photo slideshow going with it, that would work. Then people can look at it whenever they want. THAT could work. Assuming those chordians that want to participate know how to put a video like that together. I don't think it would work LIVE though.
As a side note however, I am going to send ya an email here in a bit... as Jim saw your post and had a good idea.
Talk to ya soon!
A very Merry Christmas to all of you! May all your musical wishes be wrapped under the tree this year...
mojo- you made me snicker!
good one!
Zurf is right on, zinc will totally block out all sun.
In the mean time, I suggest buying your wife some Eos lip balm. It's like $4 for a little container, and it's the "popular" thing right now. It has a TON of flavor in it... that might keep her busy for a while loving on her own lips. ![]()
Scott, you're not going soft on us now are ya? Acoustics! Awe... you could play some really pretty stuff with one! Plus, they can always be plugged into a pedal for extra effect. LOL! Next you have to try a few Taylors. You should seriously plan to make it to NY next summer... although I know that'd be extra difficult with the family spread out right now.
Now you've got me thinking though... I bet DE could come up with some pretty cool lyrics for a song revolving around the acoustic shadow. Or... even you could if it was relating to love. ![]()
I certainly wish the two of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I'm very glad that Dondra will be home with you for it all as well as your birthday! It's about time. Now tell her to stay put!
My Bday is the day before yours. So, an extra special Happy Birthday in advance from one "holiday baby" to another. May you receive all for Christmas that your heart desires and your Birthday present not be gifts they shorted you on Xmas or that one thing they decided to hold off on getting... but instead truly thoughtful b.day gifts wrapped in actual birthday paper. ![]()
(edited for terrible typos)
Nope - no named guitars - and none of them conjure up a sexual orientation either, they are just sexless guitars.
On the other hand, I do name every computer I get ... although the computers are also without sex. The bed on the other hand... oh wait... nevermind... I got off track there.
