I copy only the parts I want and paste them into notepad. Then I make sure the lyrics and structure are good then take out all the spaces that chord pro inserts and re-place the chords. It takes some time for each song but in the end it is how I want it without any extra stuff.

Re: Any idea on the make or model? (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Looks like the Harmony I used to have. Same "steel reinforced neck" sticker and same screwed on pick guard. Mine had a diff bridge setup. It was adjustable. It was a smaller scale guitar, like 7/8. Not quite small enough to be 3/4 size. Mine was a piece of junk. Never stayed in tune, didn't sound very good, and the flat fretboard was too hard to play.
Maybe give this a try:

I agree with Doug on the wet sanding. If you have lots of orange peel or if it is heavy then you might have to wet sand it. Compound just wont do it. Is it rubbing compound or polishing compound you're using? Rubbing is more aggressive than polishing. If you're looking for a glass like finish you will probly need to clear coat it to be safe. Like on cars, as long as you get the color on fine then you can put lots of clear on and wet sand it to a mirror finish without worrying about going thru the color.

NICE!!!!!!
I could dig a Taylor, not as hyped as Martins or Gibsons.
If you don't mind, how much did the bottom of the barrel set you back?

I second what Pete said. If you have to have a sheet in front of you then that's what you do. Don't get hung up on it. It will take away from you focusing on playing. That said, I think repetition is key. The more you play a song the more you will remember. Typically most songs follow a pattern anyway so you only have to remember half of it. I also think that it is a good thing to know so many songs that you will forget some.
Do what you do.

This happens alot. I'll bet there are some songs you hear that you don't know the correct words to. Most famous is probly Jimi Hendrix. "'cuse me while I kiss this guy".

Bob, I tell my students not to look, but if you have to then lean over the guitar instead of tilting the guitar back to see the fret board. that way the guitar will already be in the correct position when you don't need to look anymore.

Welcome Dean,
I'm at almost 3 1/2 years. Love the Chordie machine. Keep checking in. As much as there to learn, there is just as much advice and experience for the gang.

I agree with Zurf. Stretching should help. To add to Pix's idea, try to eliminate most of the space between the high e side of the neck and your palm. This gives you more reach to the top side of the neck.
This is one of the reasons I had to give up on my last student. She has a minor disability (not sure what it is) and I ran out of ways to help her. She has short fingers also. That made it really difficult. After five months I just couldn't tell her the same thing over and over anymore.

Cool instrument. But not as cool as trombone.
Cool is not the first adjective that comes to my mind when talking about the trombone. Hee Hee. Really tho, as long as she takes a liking to an instrument it's all good.
Might want to lock that office door from now on. She sounds like my son. If it ain't bolted down it will be misplaced.

That's gotta be a tough industry. There's always someone out there better than you, as your son found out. I say take the ride while it's here. It's an opportunity that most won't get. But he needs to realize that it can be gone faster than it came. Odds for making it are against him but he likes it and you never know what else will come out of it.
I also agree with Jerome and Dino. He needs to be grounded in a solid career.
Good luck to him!!!!!!

From my experience with red paint you need a pink or grey primer for the red to show it's true color. Over white or black it will not come out as you expect.

Re: All in the Family? (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
First thing that came to mind is that if you end up teaching them don't teach them like they are your kids. As a parent you tend to treat your kids maybe a little more harshly or push their buttons because you know how to get at them. Teach them like they are students that you don't know.
I wish my sin would show some interest in the guitar. He learned twinkle twinkle on the Uke but that lasted for about a week.
Good luck DJ!!!!!!

I could be wrong, but I bet the person playing said guitar can hear it.

If you're worried about dust you might try a chemical stripper. Citristrip works pretty good and it smells like oranges. You can find it at Home Depot, Lowes, etc. It's a bright orange paste.
You can sand it like you are doing and it will be fine. Just be careful when you get down to the wood. 60 grit will put some deep scratches in it.

Re: Random thought for the Day (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I vaguely remember wanting to be a veterinarian when was I younger. Oceanography popped up when I was in my teens but vanished as fast as it came. Knowing what I know now, I wold have definitely taken another road. For as long as I can remember I have loved military jet fighters. I was an Air Force brat so I have seen my share of diff bases and planes. I attend at least one airshow per year and I get chills when I see these awesome machines flying around. Just last week I was working at a house that was close to a local reserve base. I was digging a tench for sprinklers and I see an F-16 fly over. I remember thinking how unfair it was that I'm digging in the dirt and this guy gets to fly a jet. I missed something along the way when I was growing up.
But I am where I am and that's not bad at all. I have my health, my family, a home, a job, and the Lord. That's way more than I deserve and I really don't need anything more.
