Just a little song that captured a morning call I had with my wife. Mostly her conversation with me listening then she got busy again at work and had to go. I think simple pleasures in life make great songs. The chords for this are pretty simple to play and you just keep it up throughout the song. Here is a link to the song if you want to have a listen to a scratch recording I made that will clear up how it should be played and sung: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/morning-call-all-because-of

Chordpro error: The song does not contain chords. Please include at least two chords in brackets within the text, like this: [C7].

Prayers coming you way now. I have no info on meningitis, but I understand your wanting to help your brother. Hang in there.

You need to post the youtube link if you want someone to listen to the song.

That made my night Russ.  You Sir know Da' blues.

I was reading about how F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife, Zelda had an eventful visit to my home town of Asheville, NC from 1935-1936. Some accounts say he was trying to recover from  tuberculous, while others say he had acquired a taste for gin and was trying to kick it by what was known at the time as the "beer cure". Unfortunately he drank about 50 ponies of beer (a pony is 12 ounces) and for some reason this cure didn't work for him. Meanwhile, Zelda had been diagnosed as having chronic schizophrenic. She was checked into a local mental institution, Highland Hospital, which treated the mental illness by using less medications and focused on a good diet, exercise, and the "mountain air". She would live there the rest of her life which ended in 1948. F. Scott left the mountains for Hollywood in 1937 and seemed to have recaptured his gift, but died in 1940 while he was writing The Last Tycoon. This story inspired me to write this song about their visit long ago. Here is a link if you want to have a listen: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/f-scott-and-zelda-visit-the

F. Scott and Zelda Visit the Mountains By Jeff Gilpin

September 8, 2013

[C]Looking out the window

[F]Thoughts are everywhere

[G]Seeing new arrivals

[C]Wondering if they would [G]care

To [C]meet the man of legend

[F]For he was pretty sure

They’d [G]know of an author of his renown

And they [C]just might [G]be his [C]cure

And [Em]Zelda sits across town

Where they’re [Am]frugal with their meds

They [F]believe that country living

Will get the [Bb]demons from her head

She [G]doesn’t know how she ended up here

[Am]After a life so grand

[Bb]While the voices [Em]chuckle

As [G]only demons [Am]can

[C]Scott, he was trying to kick

His [F]over fondness for gin

He’d [G]heard if he switched to beer

[C]That he could be[G]gin

To [C]finally rediscover

His [F]genus from before

But it’s [G]hard to solve a drinking problem

When you’re [C]only [G]drinking [C]more

And [Em]Zelda she’s across town

An [Am]emotional rollercoaster

Some [F]days she brightens every room

Like a [Bb]sunny day in the mountains

But [G]other days become so dark

Like she’s [Am]trapped within a cave

And [Bb]pulls the soil on [Em]top of her

[G]Digging her own [Am]grave

[C]One night Scott was injured

A[F]nother drunken night

[G]Stumbled, broke his shoulder

While re[C]learning how to [G]write

[C]Some folks said he tried and failed

To [F]end his broken life

But he [G]never would have done that

While feeling [C]guilty a[G]bout his [C]wife

[Em]Zelda outlived F. Scott

[Am]By almost a decade

Scott [F]left her in the mountains

To re[Bb]make his life unmade

He [G]died as he was remembering

The [Am]form that brought him fame

While [Bb]Zelda died all in a [Em]blaze

[G]Some folks said she was to [Am]blame

[C]Sometimes it makes me wonder

Why the [F]mighty often fall

[G]After reaching lofty heights

They [C]crash among the [G]tall

Their [C]lives may have turned out better

If [F]fame somehow was avoided

Like [G]so much else I’ll never know

That’s [C]just how some [G]lives [F]go

Hey Phill,

I think this was one of your best recordings, and of course a great song. I like some of the backing harmonies but some of it in different spots kind of drowns you out in parts of the song, from 2:42-2:52 then again from 3:11-3:25. I would maybe tone those down some so they don't step on your vocals as much. I also really enjoyed your solo there towards the end. Overall though I really enjoyed your updated version.

Thanks Tom - I appreciate the feed back. I bet you would have liked both men. Both very talented and always filled with humor. Lewis was a big proponent of the "old Appalachian mountain values". He also taught me how to make johnny cakes (pancakes made mostly of cornmeal) on one camping trip...since then I've always associated camping and johnny cakes and vice versa. Lewis wrote a few books and was quite a story teller. One of his books was published in 2003 and is called "Of Human Interest". It is made up of pieces he wrote for the various papers he started and wrote for. Finding my father's writings is a little tougher. His most known is a short book he wrote in 1966 about Bascome Lamar Lundsford, who's most known for his mountain folk songs.

Thanks Dino - I saw a thumb on other posts but it was just a picture attached....your words are as good as a picture.  smile

Thanks Dino - Yeah, we kind of work well together I think.

smile When I'm in the upper side of my vocal range I guess I get a little like Neil...not by choice but that's just how my voice goes. I guess there are worse things. Would be better if I could play more like him.Thanks.

Thanks Pete - I agree - good old themes that I've always been fond of.

Hey Everyone,

Beamer wrote a really good song, and asked me to figure out some music to go with it. So I did and I also put a scratch recording to it that I like. I believe Beamer will give us his version as well and I am looking forward to it. If any of you would like to here it you can find my version at: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/traveling-thomas-and-brandy

Finger picking F C F C

We [F]saw them show [G]up in [C]town

Another [Em]homeless man and his [Am]dog,

[G] He never bothered [F] anyone

He’s just [F]pushing his [G]cart a[C]round

[F]One day my [G]wife stopped [C]to say hello,

[F]Asked [G]who he was and [F]what did he know.

[Em]His eyes sparkled as he [G]said,

[Am7]My name is [G]Thomas and I’ve [F]been all a[C]round

[Am7]No one for a [G]friend ‘cept [F]God and this old hound,

[Em]His name is [Am]Brandy and [Em]he keeps me s[Am]afe

[F]Between him and [G]God I’ve no [F]fear of my fate. [C]

[F]So we [G]got to know old [C]Tom,

[Em]And learn the story of his [Am]life,

[G]Once he was a [F]sinning man

Who found [F]God, but [G]lost his [C]wife.

[F]Thomas and Brandy [G]stayed [C]in this town

[F]He was able to [G]find a house and [F]make some friends

He got to [Em]start to settle down,

And he just [G]said,

[Am7]My name is [G]Thomas and I’ve [F]been all a[C]round

[Am7]No one for a [G]friend ‘cept [F]God and this old hound,

[Em]His name is [Am]Brandy and [Em]he keeps me s[Am]afe

[F]Between him and [G]God I’ve no [F]fear of my fate. [C]

[F]We shared the [G]holidaysAnd [C]took him into our lives

[Em]We looked after himAnd we would [Am]make each other smile.

[G]Life went on and there came that day, We hadn’t [F]seen him in a while,

That’s [F]when we [G]Lost our [C]smile.

[F]He is no [G]longer [C]here ,

[F]I can see him [G]clutching his bible [F]tight

All the [Em]while he says with all his [G]might

[Am7]My name is [G]Thomas and I’ve [F]been all a[C]round

[Am7]No one for a [G]friend ‘cept [F]God and this old hound,

[Em]His name is [Am]Brandy and [Em]he keeps me s[Am]afe

[F]Between him and [G]God I’ve no [F]fear of my fate. [C]

I Love the Internet - By Jeff Gilpin - Aug 4, 2013

I could learn a foreign language
Which I’ll need when I meet
That girl who has the hots for
And lives 2.5 miles down the street.
I guess while I’m at it I should buy
Some of those super enlargement pills,
And learn those three words girls can’t resist,
And add to my night of thrills

               I love the internet.
              It’s a great innovation.
Connecting me to the rest of the world
          That’s filled with deprivation.
I thought it’d bring peace to the world
Or feed all the starving children.
Instead it’s just a way for people to make money.
No miracle, just a little sad and funny.

Hey Finnlander - Welcome.

I looked into Rainsong guitars a while back. Carbon fiber guitars have a pretty good up side. They hold their tune better since they're made out carbon fiber and not wood. I got this one second hand from someone who owns one, but it makes sense to me because the carbon fiber is not quite as sensitive to the elements like wood guitars. They really have a great sound which I think is because there is no bracing like you get in wood guitars, so they are much louder. They're also quite light. I picked up a full size dred and almost dropped it because I was not expecting the weight difference. The down side to me is the cost which runs around $2k and up. I also kind of like the look of wooden guitars so I would miss that. Not an issue for me because I will not be in the market for a while. If you are interested I recommend go try one out and see for yourself.

Thanks Phill. No tears. I was just appreciating time I spend with that gal of mine. She was heading off to work at a local winery and I was envious of all those the patrons who would get to spend that day with her.

We can't post the lyrics here in the forum unfortunately, but I think the chords you provided answer the request from the original post. Thanks for figuring out the chords Alex.

Doesn't say A it says Ab then Dm Eb Ab G Cm Eb and so on....he's finger picking the chords the way I hear it...with a bass track on top of it as well if I'm hearing correctly. The bass track might throw you because they are not part of what chodify shows. Hope this helps.
