Well it took forever - but here is my version of the song I wrote

Apologies for my playing and singing, but the message is important and I wanted to get it out there.

beautiful lyric and the pics are matching.  Nicely done Peatle. Relaxing tune. We all need a place like that.

It could be any major city - they all have danger zones.
There are some gangs  and drug deals it makes it quite treacherous and savage sometimes.

Nice song -

Best Regards to Anne !!

That describes such a sad life.

Would that work on a telecaster ?

Might be an amusing sound.

Jim

Wait.  Where do you put the rag?
By the sound hole?

In My Humble opinion......

it's your best song yet!
some classic lines in there!

Jim

Hey fellas

I rewrote this song... made lyrical changes mainly. Changes are in this post - i edited it.
Mainly the second verse - I didn't like it the way it was.

If I get a chance I will try to record it tonight so I can torture your ears a bit  smile
Jim

Thank you Bill and Phill !

Mojo

I too have lots of memories where cats that were sounding like lions.
When I was typing my thesis for my masters on a typewriter  this old tomcat was at my door howling away
I shooed him away a few times, and finally instructed him that if  came out again he was going for a ride.

sure enough - he came back and was howlng - i put him in the trunk of my car and brought him to my buddy's farm.

He stayed there for about the next 5-8 years - seemed to love all the other cats there.

Glad you liked the song. I'm gonna do a rough recording just so the guys that can actually play and sing can get
an idea of how it is in my head.

I also put the line about the ice cold beer flowing in their bc I thought being a Texan such as yourself, that would help en the bloc!  smile

Take care

Jim

Mojo  posted about having writers block for songwriting.  Phill, Brian (easybeat)  and I made a couple of quips
and I turned them into this.

Cryptic Trance by Jim Kenyon  (with Help )

[C]trying to think of something important to write

But I [G] only hear the fridge and two cats in a fight

oh I'm [Am]starin’ at blank paper as it nears midnight

and it [F]seems the notes just [G]don’t sound [C] right

.

[C] waiting for my pen and paper to dance

but they're[G] just victims of this circumstance

it's like [Am]my mind's held captive in a cryptic trance

and it [F]seems that a song [G]doesn't have a [C]chance

.

Chorus

[C]Yea, I been [F]searching for words that never came

ya know, [C]everybody's candle burn's a different flame

so when the [F] strings get dusty and sounds seem wrong

just [G]wait, be [F]cool, and something good will come a[C]long

.

[C]been 3 days now, but feels more like a year

seems the [G]only thing that’s flowing is ice cold beer

oh I'm [Am] waiting now for the words to appear

but my [F] imagination has [G]somehow disap[C]peared

.

Chorus

[C]Yea, I been [F]searching for words that never came

ya know, [C]everybody's candle burn's a different flame

so when the [F] strings get dusty and sounds seem wrong

just [G]wait, be [F]cool, and something good will come a[C]long

[C]I’m trying to think of something important to write

it seems [F] every note I play just [G]don’t sound [C] right

[C]I keep waiting for my pen and paper to dance

like a[G] song about the beach in southern France

or two [Am]lovers searching for their true romance

but it [F]doesn’t seem that I’ll [G]ever get the [C]chance

[C]Yea, I been [F]searching for some words that never came

[C]It’s been 3 days now, and my vision's still not clear

seems the [G]only thing that’s flowing is the ice cold beer

What works for me is to read accounts of history. There are so many amazing events and people - seems there s always a catch line or something that I find to be inspiring.
Sometimes it's something someone says in the news.

an example - I was reading about abolitionist leader and newspaper owner William Lloyd Garrison and his fight for the freedom of slaves in America.
When people tried to silence him - his response was " I will be heard !"    or Sojourner Truth's " ain't I a woman" line in speaking of women's rights.

Both of those phrases have the ability to inspire a song to me - not necessarily about slavery or freedom - but you could adopt them to any modern situation.
Another thing I find inspring is just walking around and observing nature.

Hope this helps - it works for me but who knows - everyone's candle doesn't burn the same flame.
(LOL - I just made that line  up and thought - that's a pretty good phrase for a chorus in some song  " everyone's candle doesn't burn the same flame"  smile  smile  smile  !

PS

Congrats on the recording of the CD  -  I'd like to hear it.
Where do you send them to to get publicized ?

Bill

I am thrilled to have you back on chordie. I did not answer the other message b/c I do  not use facebook at all.
Here is my futile attempt at a song, still unfinished..... I will update - others can give input as well.
I have no chords yet b/c it is just in my head and haven't touched the guitar with it.
I think the title would be  " I ain't nearly done" .

Let me know what you think of it so far.

Jim

The future reaches out, while the past retrieves
Our memories are just tangled webs we weave
The mind plays games, and seems it sure loves to deceive
might not be true, but it’s what I’ve come to believe

time is so elusive, it always finds somehow to slip away
like a rainbow disappearing on a rainy summer’s day
nothing lasts forever, but I hope we’ll meet again someday
and let the love we’ve shared take us home , but who can say

chorus
the best of me may be hidden, but it’s far from gone
but it sure does get harder as every  year now adds on
know that inside my mind there’s still something good going on
please see the sparkle in my eyes, and know, I ain’t nearly done

That's too bad !!
Just yesterday I almost bought tickets to a ZZTOP show that's coming near my town next month.
Now I wonder if they will still play.

Just leave the spurs upon my boots,
An' drop 'em in right quick.
An' just in case there's music there,
Throw in a guitar pick.

The one word phrase that always seems mentioned is " fine".

Very Good piece there Jeff !!

WOW  - Phill
you are verging on becoming JJJ

All you need is a couple of bread machines !  smile

hmmmm. drum sets .....   if I had one for a week I am sure my wife would never mention the guitars again ! smile  smile  wink

The info regarding Ann only makes me smile - I have that same daily conversation with Pam --- "why do you need all these guitars " she asks.

My reply - I don't, but they aren't going anywhere either.

What is that old adage -  " Honey, please don't sell m guitars for what I told you I paid for them "  ?

MOJO -  I did the same thing - I have decals of my grandkids on my Ibanez hollowbody. - It's the only guitar they are allowed to play with.
the instructions on how to load pictures is here on chordie  somewhere -  if you go to the tab " About chordie" it is the fifth one down - posted a while ago by

Great Story Peatle !!!

That is fantastic

Phill

I have all my grandchildren on my pics.   It cost a bit to have them put on them, but well worth it.

I have four sets pics - one of each grandchild  variety of weights or thickness.

I have been told recently that I will have to order a new set in a few months !!!

Cool stuff Phill !
