Mojo - another superb one!  You sound so much like Guy Clark on this one.  I kept waiting for a little chorus in there somewhere.  I bet this stuff  happens all the time.  I still can't believe that with your style, voice and playing abilities that you aren't signed to a contract by some recording company !  You are special Mojo !  Jim

nice one EB !
Many scenarios applicable - imagination food for everyone!

Beamer

" Black and White will make you cry'

Never truer words spoken

in education it sums up why we are :
Every kid gets a trophy
No child can fail
etc...

people are afraid to tell the truth if it hurts
the twisted  thinking is that somehow  it is helping them, but in my humble opinion - it cripples them.

great line

Peatle

I can tell you that as a long time teacher - these kids are coming out of school with that exact mentality.

Always " Me First - where is my trophy - I want the money and damn the character !"

Good stuff Peatle .  I can't wait to see what you post on the next inclement weather day !!

I quite agree with all the above
Pete and Phill are showing the love
Brian is  liking the scheme thereof
and your message fits just like a glove
the world in ways has become degenerate
but your song seems the best predicate !

Thought it was genius work my friend - made me think a lot !

Well done!

EB

Classic

I immediately thought of several scenarios there.

That has the making of  a really good song !
I was playing around with it - I hope you don't mind.

This my thoughts in terms of song

Purple
[C]In a cafe we sat
having a coffee and a [G]chat
[C]talking `bout music and art
as the background soft music [G]played
[C]i told her  to  close your eyes
and then i closed [G]mine
[C]I asked her to tell me the colours
she imagined in her  [G]mind
she said [D] I see red and [C}blue
while I was seeing [G] purple

Great concept her Brian - well done.

Jim

ps - every song I've ever written had to have rhyme - this one because of the color scheme
- LOL " Purple" !!!      at first it felt funny - but I actually like this -  it gives such a twist when it doesn't rhyme.

Thanks for opening that door for me !

Thanks Graham

I think a lot of people have been in that spot where they mad a choice and then regretted it.

Thanks guys

I wrote it actually as a tribute and a way of wishing that I could have spent more time with my bothers in our older years -  I had two  pass away in the past two years  and my oldest brother has alzheimers to the point where he does not know me anymore.  I was looking at old family photos and the idea of this song just kind of
emerged in to my thinking.  Time just goes by so fast , we get caught up with daily happenings and things that seem so important at the time - and then suddenly something happens - and you wonder why you didn't spend more time with them.  I guess it was just a release verse for me.

Thanks for the kind words. I hope you all take the time to spend with your families- it really is irreplaceable.
Cheers

I  will let you guess as to what it is about if you wish.

Nice one Peatle.

Giving people to have a voice is crucial. Even by voting and not getting your candidate to win still exercises a fundamental human right.

Like the perspective Peatle !

I liked it to. I think it has potential for a song
AS i was listening I had a coupe scene's pop in my head and a line or two.
I kept waiting for a change for like a chorus or something.

Sounded really good Scott and SonBream !

Excuse my lack of knowledge

Do basses usually have 4 strings ?
Is playing a five string guitar harder ?  What are the advantages of such a guitar?
Cool looking axe .

Mojo,

You playing alphabet soup chords and gigantic ranges of of vocals, even hammered, is 1000 % better than me playing and singing one chord and a nursery rhyme  smile
Just saying

Jim

I changed the lyrics, chords and how it's played.

Covid: The Missing Years by Jim Kenyon

.

finger pick the verses, strum the chorus

.

[D]It was the 12th of March, and [G]Spring was on the way

I [A]looked out my window, seemed like an ordinary [D]day

Had a lot of plans in mind, with so [G]many things to do

Oh I [A]never thought a virus would have me feelin' sad and [D]blue,

.

[D]Everyone said China, eating [G]bats might be the blame

but it [A] really doesn’t matter much, we're never gonna be the [D]same

Wear a mask and keep your distance, and [G]listen to the news

well [A]what’s the truth, what are lies, and who is gettin'[D] screwed

.

[D]I thought this can’t be happening, it [G] seemed so damn surreal

with [A]people taking temperatures, and asking how you [D]feel

Closing down our schools and bars even [G]places that we eat

I'm [A]looking out from my front porch, just see an empty[D] street

.

Chorus

[D]Well Jimmy got quarantined, [G]Arlene wore her mask

[A] Did you get your vaccination, is the question they all [D]ask

[D]Things shut down all around the world, [G]isn’t much that we can do

[A]Just wishing we'd go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

.

[D]Thousands were getting sick, yeah [G]many people died

both [A] common folk and celebrities, a whole lot of people [D] cried

No concerts or games to watch, can’t even [G]watch our children play

and [A]Health care workers on the line, nearly every single [D]day

.

[D]Work from home, meet in zoom, makin' [G]tik-toc’s to pass the time

the hours [A] steal our lives away, while we all have to walk the [D]line

some never got their first kiss, some lost a [G]summer at the beach

others [A]lost the last chance to hold someone, cause they were out of [D]reach

.

[D]We talk about the future, but seems we’re [G]living in the past

as we [A]watch how the world is changing, and hide behind our [D]mask

someday they'll ask what was it like, was it [G] really how it appears ?

and I'll [A]say I don't remember much, it was covid, the missing [D]years

.

Chorus

[D]Well Jimmy got quarantined, [G]Arlene wore her mask

[A] Did you get your vaccination, is the question they all [D]asked

[D]Things shut down all around the world, [G]isn’t much that we can do

[A]Just wishing we'd go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

[A]Just wishing we'd go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

slow finger pick last line

yeah,[A]Just wishing we could go back in time and 23[D] skidoo
