Zurf I remember hearing and seeing photo`s and video`s from mekidsmom and Topdown`s get togethers for chordie people but I didn't know you or Uncle Joe had hosted them, so that's great that a few of you held get togethers. Would have been lots of fun.

Yes I agree jets, the a lot of the old familiar names that used to be here I haven't seen on here in ages. Miss the good conversations, the laughs and of course the music they presented. I haven't been on here as long as some of you but long enough to remember how it was.

A quick and sloppy try at how I heard Jim's song.
I liked it Zurf, you performed it really well. I liked it with the talking and blues style, very effective, you had the right type of voice for it as well. I think TIGLJK will be very pleased with your attempt as his song. Great song Jim

Here is one attempt at a song with the word CHILD in it. I did mess up at the end but didn't change it as still getting over a cold/flu bug, so coughing
and my voice was getting a bit scratchy. I hope I get to do another song this month, but will see how I go with this throat.

Phill, thanks for the tip for sore throats, I have made a note of it. Thankfully I haven't had a sore throat, just an annoying cough but on the mend. Yes its always interesting when you come across old songs, poems, writings that you have forgotten about, brings back memories.

Hey! That's cool! I really like how you started out with staccato strums and syllables and then worked into a steady strum pattern and straight singing. What a neat arrangement.
The second song, Early Morning Rain, is a Gordon Lightfoot classic. It's been covered by nearly everyone from the 1970's folk scare, but probably most memorably by Peter, Paul, and Mary. I love how in this song in the first portion Mr. Lightfoot almost whistfully sings about how the liquor tasted good and the women all were fast. Then at the end of the song, the woman he loves is flying home - quite some distance if it's a three hour flight in a 707 (we are left to presume "she" is a woman and not the aircraft - a beautiful bit of underwriting where the listener fills in the blanks), and he remains behind and practically spits out the phrase "cold and drunk as I can be" and we can imagine him on the ground near the airfield watching the plane leave with her and without him. And we are left to imagine the purpose in her coming was to take him home. It's such a wonderfully written song where he gives no details but provides enough hints for the listener to fill in a complete story.
Thanks Zurf, more accidental on my part rather than skills ![]()
I looked up the song Early Morning Rain by Gordon Lightfoot. A cool song, I have no idea how I haven't heard it before.

Re: JULY 2022 FSOTM – DOOR, CHILD, GOODBYE, RAIN, LOVE (50 replies, posted in Featured Song of the Month)
The door opened wide and the child burst in
A tornado in a Macintosh and short pants
Shaking off the rain and clutching his nanna
I love you nan, he said and kissed her cheek
Were off now to Disney land... goodbye, goodbye
Yahoo, he screamed and was gone in a flash
We walked to the door and waved as the car drove away
See you soon, enjoy and closed the door.
Tea? Yeah why not!
Excellent bit of writing there Phill, love it
You used all the words and made it work, great stuff

Zurf, really good both of them. The first song, Bob Dylan, I knew well and have covered it myself quite some time ago. But mine was no where as good as yours, your guitar skills are good in this song and I only had the ukulele. The second song I actually don't know, so it was new to me but you sounded good in it. Both songs you performed really well vocally and instrumentally.
Here is my version of it done 5 years ago and sung probably way too fast

Cleverly written Phill, the imagery of the poem really came to the fore. Hope you and your wife recover well from CV. As for myself, no CV just a stupid cold/flu bug for the last 2 weeks with lots of coughing, which is getting very annoying.

easybeat, nothing wrong with the reverb and nothing wrong with the recordings. I just think as your voice is reasonably quiet, you probably need to either increase the recording volume on the vocals or decrease the instrumental recording so it doesn't override your vocals. Hope that makes sense.

Grah1,
Very catchy, nicely done once again ![]()
easybeat,
haven't heard you play banjo in a long time, good to see you mixing it up. This one bounced along nicely with the banjo. I still at times struggle to hear the lyrics, just wondered if you turned the vocals up when recording so your voice is above the instrument would help. Also, can you re-enter the other song you put up in Suggestions too ![]()

Topic: JULY 2022 FSOTM – DOOR, CHILD, GOODBYE, RAIN, LOVE (50 replies, posted in Featured Song of the Month)
Hi everyone, here we are already well over halfway through the year! Time is going way to fast it seems.
For the month of JULY, looking for any SONG with the following words in the lyrics. These 5 different words are: DOOR … CHILD …GOODBYE … RAIN … LOVE.
You can perform any song you like, so long as it has at least one of those words somewhere in it.
Some suggestions that have been made by members are:
* Early Morning Rain – by Gordon Lightfoot
* Don`t Think Twice, It`s Alright – by Bob Dylan
* To Her Door – by Paul Kelly
* The Door (Mamma`s Song) – by Jim Kenyon (our very own Chordie member TIGLJK). The lyrics and chords to this song can be found in the SUGGESTIONS for JULY Topic.
Once again, you can perform any of the above suggestions for this month or you can do a song you have found that may not have been suggested. As long as it has one or more of those words in the lyrics and you can perform as many songs as you like.
It can be a COVER, ORIGINAL and or INSTRUMENTAL, you decide. Looking forward to what you all come up with.
READY! SET! GO!
