I'm afraid most jazz leaves me a bit cold unless it is very much in a blues vein .But I can understand its draw from a technical aspect . So well done to those who can play it you have my admiration .

Played the song at the open mic last night It was well recieved but none of the audience had heard of Robert Jon . so I hope it stirred some intrest.
We will see how it goes with the band at rehearsal next week .

Two good songs Jan very clear vocal ,Uke sounded a little distorted at times I'm assuming its an electric one .Good though ,when ever Ive owned a uke Ive always changed the G string to a low G ,to my ears it gives a more mellow sound . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9o-LEe8fLk

Thats definetly the best option the new version has a 50 watt output and is great but quite expensive , I loaned my old er one to a freind for a rest home gig and it was more than adequate

Re: guitar and mic (9 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
You need a mixer then you can split the signal .My Roland cube 40 has an auxiliary input ,I sometimes use for small gigs .I feed a 4 channel mixer in there and it gives me good clean sounds with plenty of volume .Don't just plug the Mic into the six as the signal level is too low with out the mixer. For smaller gigs I have a Roland street cube which has 2 separate channels and sounds great.Hope this helps Brian

Phil we had 2 amps and a mixer I fed my rig and mic through the mixer and my 40 watt cube , Ken used my street cube for his guitar and mic. I pre recorded bass and drums onto my loop for each track , I played 2 verses and a chorus on each loop so it was easy to run thr loops for what ever length we wanted .Jim and Paul the regular members of Growing Old Disgracefully had other projects unfortunatley hence the backing tracks .

12 months ago I was diagnosed with an auto immune syndrome which has affected my joints and lungs .Luckily the consulltant I saw was really on the ball and has given me a drug to control it . For a while las year I was unable to sing due to extreme breathlesness and hand cramps when playing, So I cut down the amount of gigs and things have improved enormously ,However this last month I have been doing all the regular gigs I do anually ,this week end coming being the last for about a month and I'm really feeling it in my fingers ,not geting the cramp that I had but aches and stiffness that slow my playing and stop me doing fast runs ,its quite frustrating . Ive had to use ibuprofen or diclofenic gel to help .
Just wondered if any of our aging players are suffering like I am and have any tips .

19 and 20/07/25 we had a special event on The settle to Carlisle railway at Settle station . The organisers asked for a bit of local music to greet the travellers using the station . I was asked to play on the Sunday , My old band Ronnie and the Rockits played on the Saturday .
We all had a lot of fun and expect there will be more events on the line in the future .
So heres a brief clip of my self and my friend Ken Larkins doing Rock me baby

Finaly managed to relax after one of the most hectic week ends for a while .
Friday birthday party for my son aged 42
Saturday drive 50 miles from my sons to south Manchester to play charity gig for Autistic kids , On stage at 12 30 for 1hr then drive back to meet friends from London who we hadnt seen for a couple of years
Saturday evening drive 40 miles home to load car for Cockermouth Live festival 85 miles away .
Sunday drive the 85 mile to the festival play late afternoon for an hour and a half .Then drive back home in pouring rain . and unload .
Monday get up late rush to hospital 20 miles away for meeting about diabetes then drive another 20 miles to bass players house to sort out set list for next Saturdays performance at the Ilkley live fest .I'm now at home chilling and about to pour a well earned Jim Beam .
Good news when I turned on the computer both festivals have rebooked us for next year so we must be doing something right

Went to a progressive jazz concert in Greece once that some freinds organised . Another freind turned up part way through the first set and said , when are they starting , I said they are playing now ,she said I thought they were tuning up . To be honest it did seem like all three members were playing different tunes at the same time . LOL
How ever I did get chance to play with a couple of guys who used to play at Ronnie Scotts in London both terriffic sax players . Sadly one passed a few weeks ago ,RIP George Lee you were the best sax player I've ever known .
