DE - Absolutely health first. Sounds like you should be in good shape by then though. My fingers are crossed for a speedy recovery!
Let Jen know that if she's up for camping - there's a State park nearby that allows dogs (Verona Beach State Park), as does my yard! I'm not sure on the little motels around, but I'm 99% sure that the Days Inn in Canastota (next to the I90 thruway exit and across from the Boxing Hall of Fame - 15 minute drive from my house) does! I do have a rescued pit bull that doesn't take nicely to other dogs very quickly, but I don't let her run without being tied up very often (last thing she needs is to bring a bad name to her breed just because some morons raised her wrong). I have no problem at all keeping her on the run/mostly in the house. I generally do anyway, for her own safety. Our pug would love the company of some other dogs closer to his size.
Unfortunately, we haven't gotten the yard fenced in as of yet. However, we have just shy of an acre and the back is bordered by trees. There's plenty of space to tie the pooches up or plop one of those cork screw deals into the yard (if you don't mind fighting with rocks). I know how difficult it is to get away when you have kids, or dogs. It's all the same in the end. Please, feel free to bring them along if you think they can handle the traveling.

Pete and Dino - I think you two should plan a gathering over on that side of the country! Of course, if you did, I'd be all upset because then I couldn't likely make it to yours! We sure do have a good group of people here. The Chordie Family is the best! ![]()

Re: Adding strap button on a Martin D15M (11 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Welcome to the forums Randall!
I can feel your concern, and I'm sure lots of others do too! Give this thread a day, and you'll have a LOT of well thought out opinions.
I personally say, "go for it" but then... I have a Martin 000-15M and don't have a button on the neck myself. My custom strap wraps around the headstock (by the nut like yours). My husband did install a pick up in it, which included drilling out the end pin hole a bit more. It was VERY SCARY to watch! In the end, all went well. I imagine with the right placement everything would work out fine on your end too. Maybe take it to a local guitar shop and let someone else do the dirty deed though. I don't think I could do it myself (not because I'm not mechanically inclined, but because I'd be too scared to damage my baby - which would likely make me slip up and actually damage it!). Good luck, keep us informed!

For some reasons, old age is a blessing. No more work. No more kids to raise. No more daily grind. However the concerns of did I work hard enough, did I raise them well enough, do I have enough to survive without the daily grid... I can look forward and know that retirement will not be all bliss. Nicely written Phill. Bill, we are here for ya, with ya as best we can be from the internet. Pete... I can understand just wanting one place where its not the main topic of discussion. That said, Jim and I are very sorry to hear about your wife and your loss. I can't imagine what you've been though this past year.
With love... Amy

The weather's been soooo nice. We've got summer temps in May! It's crazy. So, after the very very cold winter, I've been either working my tail off or OUTSIDE. But, I have been thinking about everyone! By the time August gets here, it will be a perfect time for some SERIOUS relaxation. So, just thought I'd bump this up to make sure those that didn't see it do, and those that weren't sure are reminded, and those that are sure don't forget! 3 MONTHS! The time will fly, but hopefully not too fast!
Enjoy your day everyone!

And I missed ya again. That's it - no more plans ... maybe it'll actually work out this time. UGH. May is a busy month, and with all the nice weather I could likely be in the back yard rather than the house. I'm sorry Uncle Joe. Have you had any luck with any of the other Chordians? I haven't picked my guitar up in a few weeks. Not good, not good. I'll have to JUST DO IT and soon!

Sorry I didn't make it last night. HOPEFULLY NEXT SATURDAY! Jim had to work last minute, so it was just me and the girls (requiring much Mommy time).

Re: Skype (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Bill, don't just sign out of Skype when not using, also you have to "quit" the app to get it to stop hogging resources. I personally don't run the 8.1 metro version (because it sucks and you can't share files and almost everything metro is annoying to me). A separate download is available for the "desktop" version of Skype.
I have what I consider a cruddy desktop PC (also only 4gb) and desktop Skype runs almost constantly. Like I said, I need it for work, and I work all kinds of weird random hours throughout the day (plus the managers like to contact me during non work hours sometimes, and my kids think the app is better than a phone). Even when I appear to not be signed in, I still am.
If the kids comply, I'll be on tonight and I'll hopefully catch ya, Joe!
Try desktop! Maybe you'll like it! ![]()

Re: Skype (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Don't blame ya a bit for not wanting to put it out there publicly. I use Skype for work, so I'm a bit of a tricky one when it comes to that. But if we can plan a time to get together, Jim and I will be happy to join you on skype! The trick to Skype is looking at it like a guitar circle (one person plays at a time) and muting your mic when it's not your turn (otherwise, skype tries to make everyone heard).
I'll send ya an email! ![]()

Pam, as the gal around these parts, my thoughts are with you as well. Seeing the strong men in our lives in a weak state is very difficult indeed. Kev, thank you SO VERY MUCH for keeping us updated!

I also agree - do it for yourself and if others appreciate it, then you are an artiste and artist - you paint the pictures that mean something to you, you tell the story of the picture (from your perspective) through the music and lyrics. It's why we all gravitate to songwriting on chordie - we share our stories.
This is a site of an interview by Butch Walker - talking about his song entitled 21+over It is an awesome song - but his explanation in the interview before he plays it is awesome - just what many of you were saying here.
the link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MHDNmtK6w8
He has a new album called afraid of ghosts - its really good.
Wow... Thanks Jim! That was pretty awesome, and the talking points in the beginning are spot on too. Nice!

Re: Artist vs. Artiste (11 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I guess it's changed from artiste to Performing Artist. I was contemplating that whole thing last night. I kinda said I'm not an artist, but that's not true. I am. Maybe not a great one, or one that makes money, but still an artist none the less. Hey, even the really terrible artists have a place in this world. You wouldn't be able to differentiate good vs. bad if there was no bad right? ha ha ha!
And with that, I redirect you to to MOBA, the Museum of Bad Art: http://www.museumofbadart.org/index.php

Re: our role as artitists. (19 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I was actually pondering that whole thought as I fell asleep last night. Not considering myself an artist that is. I guess the truth is that I DO consider myself an artist, just not one that's good enough to be paid for it. LOL! Now, if we're talking about coloring hair... I'm all over getting money for that because I KNOW I am better than a lot of the people around doing it. I don't do it as a job though these days, as it's a difficult schedule to keep with my family. Oddly, I find that each year I become more and more interested in different arts. I enjoy the things I do, and I do like to share in hopes that others will get some fulfillment out of it too. I never thought about it before from the view point of "my role in society" though. Feeling that I am perhaps a bit less inspiring than others, it certainly is some food for thought. Thank you very much for raising the question.
I know for my KIDS, I do feel I play an important role in appreciation of the arts and in teaching that ANYONE can enjoy participating in them... you don't have to be amazing, you just have to be feeding someone's soul. If it feeds your own, then chances are it will also feed someone else's. It is to be shared, not hoarded. ![]()

Hey Noahcertz1 - Can you check to see that you have the latest version of Chrome running? Since your stuff is showing on the bottom of the screen and not the side, that's the first thing that pops into my head. Here's a site that will walk you through several different ways to do this (and I'm sorry for all the ads on this site, they are annoying... but since we're not live chatting, this is the quickest way to get you to it): http://www.wikihow.com/Update-Google-Chrome
Current version I am seeing is 41.0.2272.118
If that doesn't work, then I agree with our other Mods - take a screenshot using the snipping tool and email it to admin@chordie.com along with the fact that you're using chrome on a windows computer and the version of chrome you're using. I've seen what you're describing before happen with the mobile rendering of this site, but not on a desktop view. Good luck!

Re: our role as artitists. (19 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Selso, I like your answer. I don't consider myself an artist really in any of the arts I dabble in. I'm just barely getting by and unaccomplished. 99% of the time what I do is for myself and my own soul first and foremost. I don't do it for society. I hope that others enjoy it from their point of view in a way that's similar to mine though. So I'll go similarly with your answer. To move people, and try to show them beauty where it might be unexpected.
