Jim, this song is tops. The writing and performance are brill. Pity some fools have to spoil it by posting spam! Also impressed with the video.
Wow!!! I just gave it a listen, first impression....so tender, so emotional, so full of love. Your performance almost brought me to tears...your voice and guitar playing are brilliant. Your words are terrific....and you have a lovely wife, just like me. Enjoy the Christmas season and have a long happy life together.
Jeff, you just put into words how I feel about Ann! Wonderfully written. I haven't listened yet, but I'm so looking forward to it.
I know a fella of French/Japanese origin... Harry gateau...lol?
Nice one Jim. Kinda reminiscent of that song you did about the guy raising the bottle for his late wife? Not saying the words or tune are the same, but you have that ability to put yourself in other people's shoes and you do it so beautifully.
Homelessness is getting to be a big problem here, and we pride ourselves on our "great" welfare state. The last ten years have destroyed it, the next ten may make it disappear all together.
Thanks for raising awareness of this subject. Tastefully done.
Oh if only it was as simple?
Nine times out of ten I get word bombed in the shower or in bed or when I'm driving and I think oh yeah that sounds good because the tune comes with the words! So I think how can I put this down so I'll remember them? I'll just keep singing them over and over till I get the chance....never happens. The fatal flaw is the second line. Once I try to get more the first line disappears and when I get to my guitar the tune has dissolved also. I don't have a waterproof phone so that solution won't work in the shower! In bed, don't want to wake her shadylip, and driving would be down right dangerous! Thanks for the suggestions though.
Ann (hershadylip, don't tell her I called her that) found a pile of Christmas, birthday and valentine's cards I made for her some years ago with, in my opinion some excellent but sloppy love poems I composed for her, I said these are great and she said yeah you used to be romantic in those days....one step forward three steps back!
I got it on YouTube, excellent, thanks for posting
I haven't mentioned this before, maybe because I didn't realise I was depressed and stressed. Neither did my doctor until I had an attack in the waiting room. I was advised to cut back on work. So I did a quick count on my daily jobs.
1. My day job, including 12 hour shifts. 2. My union duties, health and safety and representing the "naughty boys". I was also on the quality control committee and audit team. 3. My other job, gigging, which I wasn't going to give up.
So, I dropped my union duties and audit and QA. Went to hospital to have my hernia sorted then shot off on holiday to Turkey, and came back with pneumonia. But I'm right now, retired and my only worries are "will I win at bingo?" probably not
How will anyone forget you my friend?
Good one Phill a man has to pamper himself every now and then. A crafty mate of mine brought his wife a guitar to learn on and it just so happened that as a good husband he had no choice but to show her how good a present it was by playing it himself.
Good, sound reasoning. It's a tough job but someone has to do it? How did he get her to cut her nails?
My grandson who is 15 has been showing some of the symptoms you've mentioned. He grew his hair long to hide his face ( I believe) and he is a handsome boy. His father bought him a bass guitar and I've tried encouraging him even asked him to join in an open mic night with me and some friends to no avail.
He had a bad accident some years ago where he had a fractured skull, so with that and his parents splitting up and he's a shy kid and very intelligent a self confessed nerd and recluse, we all worry about him. He has in recent months come out a bit even gone on a date!!! He's cut his hair and I've tried getting him interested in my new bass....I can see from your post that we need to get him to open up. So thanks for your post, my eyes have been opened.
multi talented by gosh! it looks professional by anyones standards. i bet those humbuckers make it sing?
Nice one Ed, after spending a shedfull of cash on furniture and a load more on a flight to Israel, I think you deserve a little compensation for your charitability and understanding. 300 bucks is a drop in the ocean in comparison?
Thanks Jim, I think I deserved a little pampering seeing as she spends most of my time looking around dress shops. No, she's good really. There was a slight wobble at first, she's good now...lol
Hi Richard. Official photos on guitar guitar.com. I'll try and post my own pics when I can force myself to put it down, which will be sometime after Wednesday when it arrives.
Yes, I'm getting a new bass. Not just a bass but an acoustic bass. I've been wanting a new bass for some time and fancied an acoustic but the price seemed a little OTT, then I got an email from Guitar Guitar telling me about their sale. So I scrolled down and eventually came across a D'Angelico single cutaway left hand bass for just £199!! I couldn't believe it. Obviously Ann was not a happy bunny so I bought it anyway and I'm expecting delivery on Wednesday, just 2 more sleeps...well hopefully 2 sleeps?
Thanks Peatle, I wrote this in your style, I was hoping you'd comment and not feel like I'd copied your style too much. I love the snow too, on TV or Christmas cards.lol
I would say we need more information to accurately answer. But if you're just handing out songsheets, which are readily available on line or in song books, then I wouldn't think that would infringe any copyright laws, especially if you're referring to older songs or Christmas carols/ songs . If you can wait a while there are more savvy members that will give a clearer interpretation.
Thanks Brian. It comes from the heart. Winter to me is nature's death. Spring is nature being reborn. If only little poems like this could change people's attitude towards plastic, litter and it's effect on nature and global warming... I'd die happy, but not yet, please!
Hi C.G. thanks for your comments. Luckily where I live we get very little snow, but when we do it cripples the whole country we're just not geared up for it. We had a big fall I think in 1963 and I was off school for two weeks, can't fault that. Obviously we've had a few since but that was my favourite. Good luck with the leaves, they get just everywhere don't they?
Thanks Jim, it's cold grey winter here and I'm dreaming of the warmer months.
Spring is birth. when ice becomes water.
And barren soil becomes fertile
Seeds become plants
And trees will bloom
Blossom greets our eyes with colour once lost
Birds return to bring extra colour to the skies
Gardeners mow and turn their soil
And life begins again.
Summer, oh, those balmy days
Brighter, more colourful clothes
Gone are the coats and thick woolen jumpers
The fields and trees are full of glory
Rabbits, hares and squirrels play
And once again the happy sound of collecting bees.
Autumn, oh Autumn, begins hot and ends cool
Leafy glades become strewn with brown, fallen leaves
Once glorious green canopied trees are now shedding their bounty
Apples, pears, cherries and more
The gardener harvests his crops
And prepares the land for the time to come.
Winter; Where there is birth and youth then maturity
There follows demise, death and decomposition
Cold brings ice and snow. Freezing fog and disruption
How we envy those in warmer climes
Christmas comes and goes, alas
Easter brings us hope
Is there a light, a pinprick of light, distant in the darkness?
Spring. Again life begins anew
Congratulations on your new job Richard. Condolences to those that have lost a friend. It's good to see our stalwart members taking the time to reply and still help others. This is what Chordie is all about.
I`m still around. Still checking the posts. Not really participating lately.
But you've taken the time to answer, great to hear from you.
