Here's how it works:  People post stuff. Algorithms and users flag things that are inappropriate or annoy them, people barely making minimum wage review flagged info and either OK it or forward it. Forwarded stuff gets reviewed by people making a buck more than the first person. If further thought to be an issue it gets sent up the line a bit further to someone making more money. Then, that guy may forward it on to the appropriate authority.  Since Facebook is an American based company, it goes to US authorities I presume... What/when/how the government decides to handle it then who freaking knows.  Problem is, the first person that saw it probably only speaks English and was counting on Google Translate in the first place if it wasn't in English... And even then it had to make enough sense for them to send it up, or the algorithms (or other users) to flag it in the first place.  BUT, there is a process.  I was moderating content for a less popular social platform, and that was the process.  I am sure Facebook has a similar one.  It's far from foolproof, of course.  And like Zurf said, a business first trying to make the people receiving ads (spending money) happy first and foremost.  If you saw half the crap that gets flagged, you would understand why people barely making minimum wage are on the front lines (and therefore how legit stuff could get through).  I still don't know what the Arabic translation of "underwater cable" means... But I think its harmless yet derogatory... Or maybe its worse?  The people making a buck more than I was didn't think so.

Welcome to Chordie, Wen!

Dino - we each did our own make up!  Jim tattoos and airbrushes, so he's not too shabby with artsy fartsy things himself.  wink

Thanks for the compliments guys.  We had a blast, and won "best couple" in the costume contest at my Dad's house.  smile

DE - I read a LOT myself!  I tend to stay away from the history books, although I find the older I get the more I enjoy learning about history!

NELA, you're missing out on a really cool pic if you can't see that!  Flester, that's COOL!  So you're talking about a pickguard just to clean up the look?  Since the fingerboard is black, I think I'd stick with black for continuity, tho tortoise-shell would look good too and maybe combine the white/cream/black of the individual pieces together and just meld the whole look.  Neat "guitar"!

Hey Cam!  Good to see ya on Chordie!  Me?  All the "normal" mom stuff.  Baking, sewing, knitting, and I still dabble with my cosmetology skills on the side, more as a hobby than a career.  smile  We have a halloween costume party to go to this coming weekend.  Afterwards, I'll put up some pics that'll help clarify the sewing and cosmetology hobby end!  wink

Well NELA, I know you didn't tell us this info so we'd all sit here and cry and be sad.  So that's not gonna happen!  I say, AWESOME, you are proving them all wrong.  Keep doing what ever it is you're doing because you're still here, despite the time frame they gave.  Yeah, your family loves you to pieces.  Yeah, they're going to give you a hard time.  Sure, they want to preserve you as is and keep you right there with them forever.  It's human nature.  But heck, you never know how much time is left... and in your circumstance that is even more clear than ever.  Who wants to sit around waiting to die?  Hell no!  Do the things you enjoy!  (leave the wood though, and go fishing next time.  It's way more fun!)  LOVE YA!

hmmm... I like a lot of folk music, probably because that's what I was raised on, it's what Dad played on his guitar and what I learned to sing when I was introduced to music as a kid.  Yuppers, "Tom Dooley", "Rock Island Line", "If I had a hammer": all songs I was singing at 5 years old (and I'd like to note, I know these songs the way my Dad did them, not the way they were recorded.  When I hear recordings, I'm all "ewwwww, that's not right!"  So as a side, I'd like to say, MAKE IT YOUR OWN is a BIGGIE with me).  As time went on, there was Grandma playing Elvis on her already outdated 8 Tracks and Dad introduced me to "the longest song in history" (at the time, unless he was mistaken) - American Pie - and I won't ever forget the day we sat in his truck in the garage listening until the song was over.  As time went on I became a teen and listened to some of the more popular pop music while enjoying a bit of the dark side of lighter metal (insert Metallica, Poison, etc. 80's-90's hair bands and some earlier stuff I had missed before I learned how to stand RIGHT IN FRONT OF A SPEAKER and leave unable to hear).  I also did a lot of singing in school, so there was the whole "misc. musicals" time frame and even Italian Arias.  I can honestly say that I like a very VERY diverse amount of music!  I have introduced my kids to Phantom of the Opera sound tracks, Grease sound tracks AND "Tom Dooley" while I tend to let Daddy teach them about Metal and they choose all of this as well as current Pop on the radio.

My go to music is folk, and a lot of Country because when it comes down to it, that's the stuff that I enjoy singing and other people enjoy hearing (if people liked hearing Italian Arias more, I might figure out how to play more classical style guitar, but no one wants to hear it and I'm happy strumming).  I still sing and enjoy it all though.... just some more privately than the rest!  wink

NO RAP... minimal amounts of hip-hop I can do though.  Oh, and when we are stressed... the littlest one and I like a little classical to relax us (along the lines of Beethoven), or "wedding music" as she calls it.

Rickyjack..... another imaginary dill pickle for your amazing reporting this morning!  Looks like you were finishing up the reporting as I was getting on here, dressed in my Tutu to smack the Spam Trolls with my polo mallet (as Doug suggests I might).

Actually, I'm wearing an old Jagermeister T-shirt and sweat pants, drinking my coffee from my Martin mug and having a cigarette.  Seriously, there's a bit to banning, seeing which ones I can delete and which I have to leave for others (and report so they can pick them off), so it's nice when they're all reported before I get here.  Then, I actually get a few minutes to enjoy the site rather than spend all my time reporting AND banning.  smile  THANK YOU SIR!

Nice looking guitar!  Good deal too!  I just looked, for the sake of looking, and GC has a used one for $230 ( doubt in as good a shape as "yours").  Consider yourself a true wheeler dealer!  wink  I hope he enjoys it and sticks with it.  When money's tight, there's nothing better than having a guitar as a friend!

I believe that functionality is disabled by Admin, to help combat spam.  sad  Sorry!  You could create a facebook page open to the public for your band/self like I did, and there's a youtube app for it so people can just go there to view.  Sadly, the FB app only works on computers though to my knowledge.

Glad I could help!  Sounds like you know a little about reading music, and that is awesome!  The downside is when just learning to strum, we over think it a little.  Down the road you will start looking into how chords are created, looking into the music theory thread, and suddenly realize (like myself) that you don't know near enough.  Lol!  So, off topic, where does your music reading come from?  Singing? Plunking tunes out on a keyboard? Played saxaphone once upon a time?  wink  Personally, I played the clarinet once upon a time, Grandma taught me a little about chords on her electric Organ, I learned to plunk notes on a keyboard/piano, and was BIG into choir and took voice lessons when I was in school.  And of course, my daddy always played his guitar and tried to teach me melodies and harmonies.  smile Getting close to 40 in a few years, so all that knowledge was just like, ahhhh, feels like three years ago.  Lol!!!

Thanks to everyone for your pleasant welcome! And lots of ideas I want to try! Doug; I promise not to use any improper language again! smile And I do want to try the washboard method. The strumming patterns have confused me. Measures are not made up of the same notes. If you have a DDDD strumming pattern (4-1/4 notes) what do you do when you have 2-1/4 notes and 1-1/2 note in a measure? Is it DDD hold 3rd for 2 counts?  Or do I still do DDDD even if there is a half note? I know some of this is standard notation. Or even a whole note. Do you strum that once and hold for 4 counts? Or should I still do DDDD? I just need a few questions answered then I can work on it more. Thank you everyone so much!

When strumming out chords, think of the guitar as the drum beat with tone.  You sing the melody, so it doesn't matter if there's half, quarter, or whole notes in the melody, the guitar is the rhythm.  So you can do DDDD, one strum for each beat in the measure, or just one D strum per measure and hold for a count of four.  There are LOTS of patterns out there.  You could even do DUDUDUDU with an emphasis on the first down strum in each measure.

ignore this if you don't want to get overwhelmed, I'm going to attempt to explain a different pattern that has nothing to do with Ring of Fire but is in 4/4 time
My "go to" pattern is DDUUDU per measure of 4 beats. If you break it down so you're looking at eighth beats, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and, you'd go D and D U 3 U D U so the only time you don't strum at all is the AND between 1 AND 2, the 3 beat.  If you forward to 4:50 in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQCNgEYsDcA you'll see what I mean.  It's so hard to SAY it in words without showing it.  I personally like Yourguitarsage (the guy in the vid) as well as Justinguitar.  The downside to the guy in the link is that he's CONSTANTLY trying to sell his course, but there's a TON available without purchasing if you don't feel the need for it disclaimer, I am neither endorsing buying his course, nor am I advising against it.  I have no clue.  I like the free videos wink Some people can't stand the guy because he talks too much, sometimes when you're new you need someone to talk too much so the parts you can't see are clearly understood.  To each his own.

There's a post here in Chordie that can be found in the Acoustic section as a "stickie" at the top in green all the time that gives some examples of patterns (also found by clicking this link)  http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=11132

Really good Jim!  What makes me giggle, is we're from upstate... and there's TONS of country bars and such around here, but we're so far from Country style in the eyes of the southerners.  Yee Haw!  Upstate Country!  I can imagine this used as a MAJOR country song on the radio.  Get your recording buddies on this one and get it submitted, Jim!!!
