Goose bumps and throat lumps on this one. Waylon and Johnny are no longer with us here on earth but Willie and Kris keep on keepin' on. And let us not forget the late, great Steve Goodman, the man responsible for this fine tune.

Nice one Old Doll !!!

Cool idea bswyers, but I think it might be better if offered as a question answer. i.e. - Who played the lead  on the Beatles Taxman? - Then wait for others to respond.

I'll try with an easy one - Who played the lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps?

Eric Clapton

Who played lead on David Bowies' "China Girl"?

Ooooh, Oooooh !!! Very nice Roger !!! Congrats. If I were you I would not dare touch ( i.e. butcher) the body of this fine guitar. I'd get an in-hole pick-up that gently clips inside the sound hole, or just mic the guitar. That's one fine piece of art work there buddy !!!

Sparc Salad McGuiver

Hate breeds hate, love breeds love
Push a man too far, back they will shove
Shove you down, down to the ground
Spit on your hollow body as you cry, whimper, and frown......

Cry to your friends, scream to your mates
They pass you by as your mind awaits....
Waits and observes as your bitter thoughts gets stomped
Your body aches, your hate-filled brain is romped......

Sparc Salad McGuiver, always thought his mind was quicker
quicker with wit, yet only full of spit
Spat upon those who previously gave him praise
A friendly hand, sad heads down, where mad cows graze

Pastures are full , full of mud and grass
I guess what I'm tryin' to say is .........
Toast from a half-full glass
( or somethin' like that )

Hi all,

    i've been loving playing "6th avenue heartache" lately but I am getting tired of capoing all the time just to play it.  Does anyone know how to re-key the song for standard tuning (No capo)?

I initially thought that if you play with the capo then the songs just 2 frets higher in tuning meaning that a capoed "E" is a standard "D" but It didn't work out that way when I went to play it....

thanks,
Dm

Hi Dm,
The way I play this tune is relatively simple, ( E B F#m A ) all the way through. Just mellow way down at the start of the last verse and gradually build up the intensity to the end of the song. Great tune !!
Some folks however ( I'm sure you're not one of them ) have problems with B and F#m. Should this be an issue, place capo on 2nd fret and play D A Em G. The chart that Jeff posted should be a sticky somewhere, great tool !

In open D Tuning.  "She talks to Angels" by The Black Crows,

This song is actually in open E, traditionally, open D works, standard 440A works as well, but Chris Robinson originally composed this song like this;

I hear ya Russ, here's some of Vernons' more tasteful stuff. Ignore the 20 second commercial before the tune begins. This is a dang sweet tune, in my opinion !!!!! Hope you likey !!!

Tony Levin;
He has played on over five hundred albums, including those of King Crimson, Cher, Alice Cooper, John Lennon, Sarah McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, Buddy Rich, The Roches, Todd Rundgren, Seal, Yes and Warren Zevon. He has also toured with artists such as Paul Simon, Gary Burton, James Taylor, Herbie Mann, Judy Collins, Carly Simon, Peter Frampton, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe, Tim Finn, Richie Sambora, and Claudio Baglioni. Tony Levin is this posters' personal favorite( google the song " Elephant Talk" and you'll see what I'm talkin' 'bout"). Well here you go, I made it easy for y'all, watch it all !!!! and then watch it a few more times, it'll stay in your head and make you a better human , hahaha !!!;

Nathan East( Eric Clapton & many others) is a close second. Dude is damn near flawless, everytime, everywhere.

Of course Jaco (Miles Davis, Weather Report, Pat Metheny, Sam & Dave, David Sanborn, Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Mike Stern & others) is up there as well, along with the "Ox" John Entwistle(The Who).

I just can't stop with these amazing musicians of thunderous godliness.

This list must go on and it resumes with;
Larry Graham( Sly & The Family Stone) , Flea (RHCP,etc), Chris Squire(YES), Victor Wooten(Bela Fleck,etc.), Roger Glover(Deep Purple), Phil Lesh (The Grateful Dead), Billy Sheehan( Steve Vai, etc), Bootsy Collins(James Brown, Parliament-Funkadelic,Dee-Lite,GrooveGrass Boyz, Buckethead), Michael Manring(Michael Hedges, Windam Hill), Geddy Lee(Rush), Geezer Butler(Black Sabbath), Marcus Miller(Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, David Sanborn), Stanley Clarke( Animal Logic, Jeff Beck,Jean-Luc Ponty & Al DeMeola, etc.), Jeff Berlin(Zappa), Stu Hamm (Satriani,etc), Les Claypool(Primus, etc),Jack Bruce( Cream, etc.), Steffan Lessard( DMB),Paul McCartney(of cousre!!!) and so many more to list but the time doesn't allow .........

dont know his name but he plays bass in the group "in livin color" awesome smile

I'm with you on this one Russ if indeed you're talkin' about " Living Colour". The " Cult of Personality" band right?

Vernon Reid is one sick brother on the guitar !!!! Corey Glover on vocals and Will Calhoun on drums made up the rest of the band. I thought they were headed to "Led Zeppelinish" success but they just kinda fizzled out. But man! did they ever made a grand entrance to the world of music !!!!

And regarding their bass players, Mozz Skillings was the original( 1986-1995), replaced by Doug Wimbush in 1995. They're both incredible players but I lean towards Mozz simply because he was the first !!!

Ding-dang-it !!! I forgot him !!! For sure he must be on the list !!!!!

Realize party people that this is a subjective issue and there is no correct or incorrect answer, here are this posters' selections.

Deceased;
1) Michael Hedges 2) Django Reinhardt 3) Jimi Hendrix

--Honorable Mention; Jerry Garcia, Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Harrison, Roy Buchanan, Andres Segovia, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, Danny Gatton, Duane Allman, Carlos Montoya, Jerry Reed, Randy Rhoads, Shawn Lane, Toy Caldwell, Allen Collins, Albert King, "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Kurt Cobain, Frank Zappa and a near ifinite list of souls sprinklin' their musical dust upon those remaining on the planet

Living;
1) Jeff Beck 2) Steve Vai 3) Warren Haynes

--Honorable Mention; Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, Brad Paisley, Stephen Stills, Eric Johnson, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks, Pat Metheny, Alan Holdsworth, Tommy Emmanuel, Buckethead, Slash, Steve Morse, George Benson, Ry Cooder, Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Ritchie Blacmore, Al DiMeola, Mike Stern, Albert Collins, Dick Dale, Alvin Lee, Billy Gibbons, Paul Gilbert, Brian May, Lindsey Buckingham, Mark Knopfler, Angus Young, Kirk Hammett, Mike Campbell, Alex lifeson, John Petrucci, Michael Angelo Batio, Tommy Iommi, Brian Setzer, David Gilmour, Leslie West, and so many, many more............

And then there is the Concord Blue Devil's Drum Line.

These guys are, quite literally, the best in the world at what they do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cwrd3khcZbk

And his/their name was......???? ( remember the initial question?)

The worlds' best best drummer was that group of 50 bazillion people... hmmmm... interesting indeed......

Their name is "The Concord Bluedevils Drum Line."  They have consistently been the best in the world at what they do since the early 70's.   The kid that stands in the center of that snare line is one of the best drummers in the world, regardless of what his name is.

You really aught to take your aggro act elsewhere, Toney.  It grows tiresome.

No aggro here from this poster. I'm as cool as the bottom of a frosty beer mug.  {big cheesey grin affixed on happy face}
