I am afraid there is a bug causing this. It is known and being addressed at the moment but hopefully will be sorted shortly.

Jim, no singer sings every song in the same key (I have songs that I do in, A, Bb, C, D, E, F, and G smile). The range of the vocalist's voice in conjunction with the melody range of the song is what determines the correct key. That might sound rather complicated but what I do is a 'trial and error' method; try it in one key and, if the singer is not comfortable with it, try higher or lower until you find what suits them.

P.S. Scott I was shocked to hear of Bee Rad's sudden passing (I met him at Chordiestock 3 and he was a Member here but never posted). I have say that I have never seen so many wonderful comments about anyone after they have gone as I have about him on Facebook this week. I wish I had known him better.

I seem to have less and less time since I retired. I am running a band (me and seven ladies) and I have all the songs to sort out, find the correct key for the vocalist, produce the backing tracks (we have no drum or bass player) and write the song sheets (often in a couple of keys so the less experienced players can use a capo in difficult keys).

I do visit here every day but generally in an administrative role with no time to comment. Maybe after Christmas when the gigs have slowed down I will find more time to join in.

It is very strange how it pans out. I have dozens of songs on YouTube which usually get less than 100 hits unless it is one of my students and they tend to get several hundred. I do have four exceptions though, all covers except the last one:

14 K The Ballad Of Springhill (an old Peter, Paul and Mary song)
4.2 K Unchained Melody (an old Righteous Brothers song)
1.6 K Let It Be Me (an old Everly Brothers song)
1.2 K What A Friend We Have In Kitty (an original James McCormick song first seen on Chordie)

Interesting. Interesting to see the newly invented styles of music emerging and gaining popularity however I had never heard of 'Chanson' music and had to Google it to find out what it was. smile

If my memory serves me correct, Jeff (Topdown) had one when I was at Chordiestock, but it was a while ago and I may be mistaken. If he does not respond here drop him a line, but I agree with the others, you need to play one and get your own feelings for one.

This is usually a 'cookie' problem so try clearing your cookies and hopefully you should be OK. Please report back with the results.

Just an update:

I have been in contact with Per this morning and this issue is turning out to be a little more problematical than first thought. It is being investigated and hopefully there will be a fix soon.

I have just checked and I have the same problem as Jaybird. I will drop a line to Per, the site owner, and see what he can do to fix it.
Please bear with us Jaybird, it may take a day or two to sort out,

So sorry Zurf, it is so hard when we lose someone we bond with. Remember the good times, the fun and the laughs you had together, I am sure that is what he would want you to do. Condolences to you and his family.

We had a gig on Thursday 13th to help the local Salvation Army who do a lot of good for the poor and needy. We take nothing ourselves and we raised €1,900.00 on the night. The link is to an article in a local paper:

On a forum such as this we have contact and feel that we know people but in reality we never know what they are going through in real life. This is such a tragedy; I cannot begin to imagine what you are going through now but I am pleased to read that family and friends are giving support. Thoughts and prayers for you.

Roger

Per contacted me earlier and said it was fixed but I was still having problems with the letters I stated earlier. It would be interesting to know if 'trickstar' and 'KurtSiegel' are still having the same difficulty.
