Thanks Tops! And a Happy New Year to you and yours as well!!
The tuners are no big deal... I got them a while back with the intention of passing them on to someone but they had already got some. So they're just sitting around and might as well go to someone who needs them. -Pix
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tbgv8PkO … annel_page Just for smiles:) This is actually a very easy tune to play and it's so much fun as well!

Re: buying an acoustic (22 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I finally found Martin DXM, DX1 and D15 and I like the sound and feel of them all. I think I am gearing toward DX1RGT, D15, or Custom D.
Of the ones your looking at I'd go for the D15. It's a fine guitar and mahogany is getting scarse now that it's been added to the list of endangered woods. Look around and find a solid mahogany model (not sapele) and snatch her up
The others are fine guitars as well but the D15 is best in my opinion and will increase more in value and tone ,in time, than the others. Just my .02.... -Pix

Re: Tuning Peg Repair. (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hey Linusguitar,
Topdown has offered some great links and I second Stew Mac as a parts source! This is a fairly simple swap and you shouldn't have any trouble as long as you get direct replacements. Be sure when shopping that you look at the screw placement on the back of the headstock and you'll need to be sure of the hole size that you have now for the tuning pegs. Also the top washer can vary from diffrent manufactures leaving behind some ugly scars if they're not the same size as the ones you remove. So save all your old parts because if they are slightly smaller you may be able to use the old washers.
I actually have a set of brand new Gotoh sg30 chrome tuners that are still in the box. http://www.greatguitars.com.au/GotohSG30_33.jpg These have the screw located in the lower center of the tuner. They are a very popular replacement for most guitars... If by chance they will work as a replacement on yours, drop me an email and I'll ship them to you free of charge!! -Pix

Re: ACOUSTIC FENDERS (29 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Stonebridge has it right... Taylor is not a division of fender. Fenders highest make of acoustics are the Tacoma brand. They are great acoustics but people really prefer the pre-fender models... Fender came out with an all solid wood series not too long ago but from what I've read they weren't very impressive and they are being discontinued already.-Pix

Re: buying an acoustic (22 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
First off welcome to the Forum! All things considered (price range, value, tone, ease of play) my recommendation would be to look for a used Simon & Patrick Pro model. There are lots of others that come to mind but the S&P would have to be at the top of the list (IMO) It's all solid wood construction. They can often be found on ebay in the $300-350 price range, used of course. They are a very high quality built with top shelf tone woods in a small shop in Canada. They sell now for $1300 new and are a treamendous value even at that price. The tone of these are superb! I have a '95 S&P Pro Rosewood that has topped many of the higher end/priced guitars that I have owned. Of course tone is subjective but I doupt you'd find anyone that has played one and didn't agree. They are slightly shorter scale, therefore they maintain less string tension allowing easier fretting. So my advice is to shop for a good used older Simon & Patrick Pro model for around $350 and use the other $150 getting a K&K pickup installed. A perfect set up that will rival those costing many times more. Again this is just my opinion... -Pix

Re: comments on youtube (28 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hey ken, I get the same things. The majority are good but you always have those one or two that have to show their ignorance. I don't mind constructive critisism, I actually encourage it , but some youtube posters have no tact at all. I often spam them and then block 'em. It's funny, If you go back through your vids in a month and check the ones you blocked 80% of them have had their accounts deleted, So I don't think it's personal, just how some people are. I never leave a bad comment. I was raised the same as you but if I come across someone that is struggling and could benifit from some friendly suggestyions, Then I'll offer a few pointers but never in a rude way... And yea I hate the fact that almost everyone that wants to critisize your playing are the ones that are afraid to post. I always ask them to post a vid of it to show me how it's done... They never do!
Overall ,though, I'd say youtube is still a very friendly place and the majority of it's members are respectable. -Pix

Hi Guitarpix,
How's life treatin' you? Grand I hope.......I fell short of 25 song goal due to some unexpected gig loss-age. I got off to a good start in my 'home alone' experience but ended up devoting gobs of time searching for some new venues that were willing to pay a little bit of cha-ching. Here are few new tunes(to me) that are in my song family;
Heart of the Night by Poco
Beginnings by Chicago (when I'm with you-ho-ho)
Hungry Like The Wolf by Duran Duran (acoustified)
On and On by Stephen Bishop
Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett/Steve Cropper
Share The Land by the Guess Who
Smokey Mountain Rain by Ronnie Milsap( punked out)
I Ain't Mad at Cha by Tupac Shakur ( still in the lab on this one)
When I'm Gone by 3 Doors Down
Beautiful Boy by John Lennon
I'm Not Over by Carolina Liar
Sittin' At A Bar by Rehab ( still in the lab)
All Summer Long by Kid Rock (Warren Zevon, Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Hold The Line by Toto (still in the lab)I play to a wide variety of crowds from night to night so I try to know a little bit of everything( that won't get me fired ) to at least spark a tiny bit of interest from as many people as I can.
Peace and Guitars and The Jefferson National Forest and The Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway and The Gatewood Dam, (homeboy)
SouthPaw41L
Nice list Toney! I play Bartender and All Summer Long, both are great songs! I was surpriced to see Tupac in you repitoir
Most of the others I haven't heard but will check out. -Chris

Re: Cleaning fret board/guitar ? (21 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Hi Folks, I'm getting the impression from some of the posts that the cleaning of the fret board happens while the strings are removed. I was told some time ago that when changing strings, I should only change one at a time as the tension of the remaining strings prevents the neck from twisting (?) out of alignment. Can anyone help me here? If it's not a big problem then I'm thinking that cleaning the fret board is going to be a much easier process if I can do it at string changing time with all the strings off.
Hey Turret,
Removing all the strings at once is perfectly fine. I've always done it and never had a problem. I wouldn't leave it unstrung for a prolonged period of time but for an hour or two it's fine. -Pix

Re: Cleaning fret board/guitar ? (21 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
give my guitars a good clean with furniture polish getting in the places that are impossible to clean properly with strings attached.
Roger
Hey Roger,
I've always heard that furnisher polish was a big no no on acoustics. It builds up over time and can hender top vibration and dampen the tone. Most builders recommend using only a slightly damp cloth and then a dry cloth after to clean and maintain optimal tone. -Pix

Re: Low E string buzzing (4 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
How old are the strings? Older strings ,especially nylons, are prone to this if your set up with fairly low action...That's what I would look at first as it's the easiest to fix. If it still buzzes check the neck relief as tubatooter has adviced. The neck should have a very slight up bow to it. If it's too straight or back bowed it will cause buzzing. Being a $50 guitar and a classical to boot I doupt it has a truss rod but the neck relief can be altered by changing string weights. If it's too straight or back bowed try moving up to a heavier gauge string to add a little relief and that will probably solve the problem. If not you need to determine were it's buzzing. Fret the string in the middle of the buzzing area and put a piece of paper between the sting and frets behind the fretted string ,toward the nut, and see if the buzzing stops. If it does, chances are the nut slot was cut to deep and a nut replacement should solve it. If it still buzzes than see if you can determine on which fret it's hitting. You may have one that has started to come up or was not finished properly. In which case you will need them leveled and dressed. Also check that you have enough height at the saddle. idealy the saddle should extend atleast 1/8 of an inch above the bridge. If the saddle is too low you don't get enough down pressure on it and the string will buzz on it. Therefore you need to replace the saddle. That should cover almost any sinerio you incounter... Sorry that got kinda long

I use lemon oil and 0000 steel wool wiping with the grain. If lemon oil isn't available, olive oil works well. Just be sure to buff it well with a dry rag after cleaning to remove any excess oil. -Pix

Thanks for the kind words everyone! The playing went very well! I had a vocalists to sing as I couldn't learn both ,the music and vocals, in the time frame that I had to work with. I don't greave much over those that pass away... I believe in looking to the good times and remembering those instead of the pain of loss. Don't know if anyone noticed but I've been absent for the last 2 months... Computer crashed and I was waiting to upgrade and it took a little time to save up and get a new one more suitable for recording. Finally got up and running again just a few moments ago!
Just wanted to stop in and say hi to everyone! I'm going to start the songbook that I proposed before the crash and hope to have it online this weekend!
I've been playing just as much if not more and will be posting several new songs to my youtube page this weekend which I will be sure to add to the chordians youtube group for feedback. I've now got a regular weekend gig at a local pub and things have really been going well.
My Grandmother passed Friday and the funeral is in an hour. I've been recruited to play for the service and need to get in some last minute practise beforehand.. It's been a tough weekend... What with the emotional stress of having lost a very loved woman that raised me for most of my childhood and having to learn 6 new songs that I have never played before for the funeral in just 2 days! This is sure to be my most trying public playing... I just hope I can overcome the emotions of loss and perform to a level that she deserved! I visited her the day before she passed and she made me promise to carry the guit the next day to play for her again but the next day when I got there she had just had anouther stroke and was unresponsive for the rest of her time... So todays my day to fulfill that promise... Wish me luck!
It's good to be back! I consider you all to be very close friends and look forward to continueing those friendships and creating new ones with our newer members! Peace! -Pix
