Tone Freak, welcome here. Isn't it nice to discuss about all these subjects. I love it. Well, nice to hear your opinion about that guitar. I am blessed having a pretty nice collection, acoustics: a few Martins, in particular the mother of dreadnoughts a MARTIN HD-28, and as top a D-45V. Also a GIBSON Dove, Hummingbird and a SJ-200 Montana Gold.
I think that "guitar builders" have reached the sky. What can be improved, seeing and hearing all those great brands, like MARTIN, GIBSON, TAYLOR.
If you take a look on their websites, it is very nice to compare. Most of them, I can only speak about what I know, these toppers use the same wood, for the top, and back+sides. Inside the guitar we find wooden constructions, braces, once typical for a brand but now these days used in many acoustics. If there is one guitar I would add (probably never) it should be a Santa Cruz or Collings. I'm not a real Taylor man, martin is more than enough. And as I see your answer, we are on a similar frequency. Also about electrics: where is the limit.
Glad to read your answer.

As an American lover, I am very interested by the "elections." Even not having a clue about how the system works. DISAPPOINTED in 2000 (I was in a hospital bed) watching the results.
SOME PERSONAL REMARKS:
- What did happen in FLORIDA, the "election opera" about counting. THE RESULTS THERE WERE SO IMPORTANT. WHY DID THEY STOP COUNTING VOTES? My guess is "NEPOTISM"a DISGRACE + CHEATING the people in the USA.
Nepotism in it's clearest form: little brother JEB BUSH having the power to help his brother win, by court decisions, to read later that GORE should be the new President.
I don't understand at all your election system.
Fund-raising? Paying 1000$ to eat together with a candidate?
WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON THE CAREER of a BAND "outing themselves" as Republican or Democrats
In fact I have to write: IMPACT OF A FAMOUS BAND OR PERFORMER on the elections, AND THE IMPACT OF THE RESULTS of the elections on THAT BAND or PERFORMER.
Is there a repercussion later? Like less people going to a concert, or more?
Isn't it all about the REAL power? WEAPONS, OIL? Amazing to see how the contacts with BIN LADEN were 20 years ago, the connections with the BUSH family?
WHERE DO THEY GET THEIR MONEY FROM? even a remarkable fact in the pre-election, giving their support for a not even "elected"candidate.
Can someone give me more info? I love the USA, not the big cities, like New York, LA, Miami, Las Vegas?
THIS ISN'T A TOPIC TO USE AS WEAPON, OR AS A "VENTILATION" OF YOUR POLITICAL IDEAS.
IT'S AN OBJECTIVE TOPIC, AS SEEN BY AN EUROPEAN OBSERVER, BECAUSE:
- I LOVE THE USA
- BECAUSE I LOVE THE USA, to TRY TO GET AN IDEA, A "CORRECT" IDEA, NOT WHAT WE SEE IN OUR JOURNAL ON TV OR WHAT WE READ. It is again a US versus EUROPE difference, THINGS WHO LOOK STRANGE, BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW or UNDERSTAND VERY DIFFICULT
I appreciate every answer, and I'm really looking forward to UNDERSTAND your system

Re: AMAZING ACOUSTIC GUITARS (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I found this on youtube: a guitar player, playing the same song, using 3 guitars.
- COLLINGS
- MARTIN
- TAYLOR
The first two guitars, are like twin brothers: the sound of both guitars is so close, that when you close your eyes, you wouldn't notice a difference.
VERY SUBJECTIVE: Taylor sounds TO metallic, while the others provided a softer and more clear sound. This is MY OPINION, other's will prefer TAYLOR. The song is under the double eagle, great song. This is maybe a good song to learn "finger-picking" Here the link

We have a lot of topics, but none like this. I'm writing this to see what YOUR OPINION IS.
.
- DUESENBERG
- VOX (the teardrop guitar played by BRIAN "STONES"JONES). Is it correct that after all those years they start again making guitars?
- DOMINO electric guitars
- EKO guitars
- HAGSTROM
Are these brands still produced?
Also WHAT about Taylor, don't they have an Electric too?

Re: recording hardware & RECORDING SOFTWARE (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
RUSS & ROG I have 2 mics, since more than a year, to use it for playing acoustic. The biggest problem is: everytime I am in hospital, or on a mini-trip, the "CLEANERS" arrive here. My daughter, ex-wife (still very good contact) and they move stuff from here to there, so I have my mics, placed on "stand", and I find just one. The mic cable is different, I'm afraid I need a kind of connection cable. I feel to bad the last couple of weeks, I have to return to Hospital on 14/02, and maybe I'll enter one of the biggest Guitar stores, 5 miles from there.
I am equipped, but keeping rhythm is a problem. If I post a song, it will be "an instrumental".
I am not on the mood since a few weeks, pain, more problems in a few weeks, anxiety, I can't think clear. I will use again my device, BOSS.

Guitarpix, that would be great. I wrote that I contacted them, but to AVOID problems, I will send those guys the link. The song is "REAL GREAT", in particular the MELODY. It's written in Dialect and it rhymes = impossible to get cloe to the Dutch version.
Pix do you know what happens if I record an existing song, like "Lady Madonna" or "Let it Be" with a 12-string, and post it on MYSPACE. READING, SEEING and HEARING all kinds of "interpretations"it remains a mystery: LEGAL versus NON LEGAL?

BADEYE, I get scared, we almost need to go to a "nursery home for old people", I am born in 1955.
About the very first guitar, yes this has been already a few times a topic, but it's always nice to answer. I had a "piece of junk" belonging to my younger brother, BUT WITH an Electro-Acoustic element, and thinking about conquering the world. My studies did change plans. So my first guitar was a YAMAHA FG 300, for about $300 and 30 years ago. This was a guitar with a pick-guard like a Gibson Hummingbird. Also choices were quit limited in Europe. GIBSON & FENDER electrics, acoustic Yamaha was considered as a good guitar. Two tuners are broken, so 4 strings left and when picking a string, I'm amazed to hear a REAL GOOD SOUND. I have the impression, that these Yamaha's are "wanted". I remember that thatguitar was really good, but my real interest started with a Black, reflecting finish, Gibson LP studio, followed by a Martin HD-28, I received from a junkie in need of money: 750$ (It was between 700-800$) and the rset is history.

Re: Image? (2 replies, posted in Electric)
CYTANIA, I just saw on "harmony central" a Brawley guitar. They look rally nice.
About the "association" you make, like Gretsch representing country, rockabilly, I agree.
I have 2 "screaming" babies: a Gibson SG Menace and a:
Gibson Faded Flying V Bridge Pickup 500T HB, Neck Pickup 496R HB. PRICE 699,99$
Ther is a second flying V:
Gibson Flying V: bridge pick-up 500T HB Neck Pickup 496R HB. This guitar looks exactly the same as the "faded" with premium nitrocellulose finish for super-fat tone PRICE 1100$.
The difference in price, is it only caused by the nitrocellulose finish?
They look exactly the same. The "faded" price is compared to other guitars, ridiculous. Converting 699$ = €482, this exact the same guitar is over €900, 500€ more expensive. I did some great business on eBay if you see the difference. The difference provides me a GUITAR + A FREE AIRPLANE TICKET. I have more than enough guitars, my only dream is a COLLINGS. It must be not so difficult to arrange this: I pay a US chordian an amount, with him buying a guitar on eBay, and paying all transport, it shoulmd work.
But about METAL GUITARS: I think it is all about our COLLECTIVE MEMORIES, music video's, gigs and the fact to see guys like Metallica playing a Gretsch: the picture doesn't match, and again we can start arguing about WHY, see a lot of other topics. Can you imagine JIMMY PAGE playing an ESP, or BC RICH? Can you imagine SATRIANI playing a TELECASTER. Our "heads, brains" are tricking and fooling us again. This concerns every product, like why Coca Cola and not Pepsi. The people working for "publicity companies" know exactly were our sensitive spot is.

Topic: recording hardware & RECORDING SOFTWARE (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
A/ I have a topic about recording devices, in my case a BOSS BR 600.
Very interesting, it records more than good just using the built-in mics. There are still a lot of unsolved items: arrangements, rhythm, correction.
B/ Besides this "recording device" I am DESPERATELY seeking recording SOFTWARE. I think, having a song on the MINI COMPACT FLASH CARD, I can put the song on my PC.
There are quit a few very interesting software programs like audacity. I was told a few times that ADOBE AUDITION is considered as a fantastic help, to add effects, correcting tracks, adding other melody lines, so my question is, besides the hardware to find a very good software program with a decent price, or a trial. The problem with trials is that they have often limits, giving you onlmy an idea.
C/ I'm sure not the only one looking for decent software, to be able to put FINALLY a song on MYSPACE.
I really would appreciate every information.

TEXAN4UT, you are my hero. Since months I tried to figure out why. The woods are basicly the same, but the price? About my D-45V: this guitar came straight from Gruhn. The price here is so high, and most Stores don't have that guitar in stock. One big Music Store contacted me a few times to ask if I wanted to sell my guitar. A yes = 2x what I paid. They had a professional who wanted a D-45V. If it wasn't because of my car crash, my answer should be yes, even giving the opportunity, to return to the US, and buying another. THE $$$ versus €€€. Another D-45V would cost me €3200, here €9000.

Topic: the "DYLAN" effect. (1 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Everytime I see the name BOB DYLAN, I am more and more surprised.
It's almost unbelievable what songs he wrote, for his own albums, but for other BANDS as well.
He is probably more IMPORTANT in music-land than the BEATLES.
I really hope that nobody is offended by comparing him with the Beatles.
The more I search, the more I find. And the more I find, the more respect I have.
MY OPINION IS: BOB DYLAN IS FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT (LIVING) MUSICIAN EVER.
But he is very STRANGE.
Being backstage MD for the artists on that big rock festival, I was involved in a big discussion with an important publisher and a national TV hero. The moment Bob Dylan had to perform, he was almost hanging on the shoulders of 2 of his "probably" bodyguards, and 2 others told us to back up, the distance was maybe 1 metre. But "his majesty" looked really 100% messed up. Once on stage, he gave us one of the best gigs I ever saw, 75% acoustic, playing songs like "it ain't me baby", a "hard rain's gonna fall", "I want you" + a lot more, and 25% electric: "hurricane" "lay lady lay" even "all along the watchtower"
AMAZING

Re: STRAT TELE LES PAUL (20 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
As I wrote in this topic: why Fender/Gibson, NON ACOUSTIC GUITARS.
- 30 years ago in Europe, BELGIUM = every music store had these brands. At that time, I could only dream about these guitars, while my first guitar was a YAMAHA FG 300 (= 300$ in 1978).
- I remember that Fender's TELECASTER was 25% cheaper than a STRATOCASTER.
- My first electric was a GIBSON LP STUDIO, made on a MONDAY --> 2 songs = tune again.
- No reissues, no relics, no tribute guitars. Only the colours were different, also the price.
It's only since 20-25 years that more and more brands were available.
- GIBSON: LP STANDARD, LP CUSTOM and an SG.
I don't know 1 thing about Music Stores in the USA.

Topic: TRUE OR FALSE: DREADNOUGHT VERSUS JUMBO (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I love to play acoustic.
- I have a few Martin Dreadnoughts.
- I have a Gibson SJ-200
In fact neglect the brands, just compare these two.
Q: Is my impression correct or not = some songs played with a dreadnought really sucks, but when you play that song with "non dreadnought, like an OOO-size, or Jumbo, the song sounds a lot better.
Is this true, or am I wrong? All dreadnought's provide us a quit loud sound, while a OOO or Jumbo gives, add more value. DEPENDING FROM SONG TO SONG.
I played A HARD RAIN by Bob Dylan, with both, and here I have to admit that the song sounds 2x better played with a NON DREADNOUGHT. Is it a wrong interpretation, or is it real?

Re: Tuning for Buckets of Rain (1 replies, posted in Song requests)
It is a BOB DYLAN SONG from the album Blood on the Tracks.
This what I found:
"Buckets of Rain" is played in the key of E major. Instrumentally there are only two: acoustic guitar and bass guitar. The guitar is not in standard tuning; rather, it is in "Open E" tuning.
I hope this will help you.

Re: ABOUT GUITAR PLAYERS (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
I agree with you friends, for me, as I told a 100% rhythm guitarist is more difficult to spot, listening to a band. Like CCR in particular, SUSIE Q. I was told by a PROFESSIONAL that I was more a kind of "lead guitar" player.
This after recording (and correcting + arrangements) a CD with 2 songs I played. He also pointed and talked about my bad things and habits.
My style: trying to play the melody on a few strings, using some riffs and licks + mini-solo's.
One of the 2 songs was NORWEGIAN WOOD, the other a "bluesy song"
All this happened in CANADA visiting a woman, who staid with another Canadian girl 1 year in our family now 30 years ago.
She is married with a YUGOSLAVIAN guy, a PROFESSIONAL, CLASSIC SCHOOLED Musician. Please do me a favour and GOOGLE Miki PETKOVSKI, he was member (leader in fact) of a Band named SMAK or use this link: www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2822
She is a lawyer, they both live in a huge house in MISSISAUGA Canada, where her husband has a real big RECORDING STUDIO. More information on http://davorius.com/songland/
He has quit a reputation, writing songs for ads, style: more Jazz/Fusion, but he can play everything.
Like one night: he plaid, a few songs from the Beatles, like "Something", "Yesterday" in any style you wanted: example: YESTERDAY ==> Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, in BLUES style, Jazz.. INCREDIBLE TALENTED GUY.
I really hope that you find him.
Thanks a lot for your help and information, it is "again" a think-topic.

Topic: STRAT TELE LES PAUL (20 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
There are a lot of topics about these guitars.
WHY BUYING
- a stratocaster
- a telecaster
- a les paul
As you see only models, no brands.
The only theory I have is OVEREXPOSURE. ADD the fact that this are the most "discussed" guitars.
Turn your TV on, watching a band performing, what do you see? STRAT - TELE - LES PAUL. I'm not arguing about and "Ibanez", and "ESP" and "Dean"...This 3 "MODELS are more than enough.
I know "die hard fans using other brands", but for at least 90% of us, and bands, we all dream about having a STRAT, TELE and LES PAUL. Squier, MIM or MIA Fenders, EPIPHONE or GIBSON.
IN EUROPE 30 years ago, and you walked through a guitar store, their stock was these 3 different guitars. All chordians older than 40 years old will confirm this. (ONE BIG POINT: I AM SPEAKING OF HERE IN "EUROPE")
When I traded my GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO (a built-on-a-Monday guitar, NEVER STAID IN TUNE) thanks to a high ranked custom on the Airport, for $400, and 2 years later: I got 900$ in the music store, and I left with a PRS Custom 24, 3 months old, adding 700$. This brand was UNKNOWN, SO CHANGING A GIBSON for an UNKNOWN guitar?
I didn't hesitate to buy it. HERE IS A KIND OF AN EXAMPLE of buying a guitar who was not a STRAT, TELE, or LP. I bought this guitar on a Saturday noon, went to a McDONALDS, returned for the PRS, never forgetting the words: in the 45 minutes you were gone, we had 3 different musicians coming back for this guitar, on sale only 48 hours. FOR ME THIS WAS a "proof" that this might be a great guitar. And YES IT IS. So here in Belgium the choice wasn't that big, only 10-15 years ago.
EXCEPT FOR the "X-FACTOR" I THINK THAT WE ARE "HYPNOTISED" by famous bands playing these models. Can YOU forget a Led ZEPPELIN with Jimmy Page playing on GIBSON, or SRV and his STRAT.
That is the only reason I can find. BUT IS IT THE BEST "must-have" CHOICE? Buying an Epiphone LP for 500$ telling that this will be their main guitar instead of a Gibson LP. Most of guitar players I know, changed their EPIPHONE or a FENDER MIM, to buy the "real" thing, a FENDER MIA, A GIBSON LP.

Oldnewbie, I'm afraid you're wrong about what UYK wrote.
I FOUND exactly the same on the internet.
- "Londoners ( the cockneys) have their own slang, it is called "Rhyming Slang "
ABOUT SOME WORDS:
- HEROIN = BROWN SUGAR
- HASHISH or MARIHUANA = SHIT. ![]()
About that word SHIT for HASH, I was told, and I found it somewhere on the web, that this word is used because of the fact that drug "kings", dealers, started to mix hash with CAMEL "droppings", so if this true, the word is correct too.

About THAT song by "FIXKES" I mailed to them, and I got a response.
It would be a lot more easier to use the melody and in stead of translating, take that melody and change the Dutch words by a new song, USING LYRICS you like.
They told me that they were really pleased with your comment, and in fact what can they do? Having 1 huge hit here, maybe one album = they will never cross the ocean trying to perform a few song. If some of you guys, likes this song, feel free to use the melody with YOUR lyrics.

Well chordians, it's 100% correct.
But, (SORRY) being a MD, and you don't need to be a shrink of whatever, this quote is written by a "COMPLETE MESSED UP BRAIN"

Topic: HOME RECORDING TOOLS TO HELP MAKING SONGS (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Probably there are a lot of chordians having a device or tool to record at home.
Can we speak here about hardware + software?
I have a recording device: BOSS BR 600, not that simple to use. I know that software programs used to create or to improve the song you wrote, by correcting arrangements, adding rhythm, remove bad chords, in fact giving you the opportunity to make a real good sounding song.
I heard about ADOBE AUDITION, AUDACITY, BAND-IN-A-BOX.
I really want to know which is for you the best way to record a song, because I am not at all a genious to correct an own song into a good version (arrangements, corrections).

Yes bigrinwv, I know. It started with "light" topics. And on the other hand, I know a lot, I try to turn my knowledge into some difficult topics.
There is ONE BIG REASON OR CAUSE:
- The fact that I had to stop working, caused by the sequels of my crash.
- I have a restless mind, absorbing too much, and this isn't funny at all, like "knowing the next step"in a discussion, and yes this is really difficult for me: compare it with a car where the engine never stops turning. I can't help it, maybe control it but IT'S KILLING ME. Another reason is TIME, I have too much time and I still feel GUILTY if I don't do something. EXCLUDE ALL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WHICH BRINGS ME BACK TO THIS POINT. I ADORE information, sharing mine. As told it's unbearable that restless mind. There are more than some difficult topics, I can only tell you : that's me, and hoping that you understand me and the "why'.

Re: SUPERBOWL+US SPORTS (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
WELL friends, we are on our way again to compare the USA versus EUROPE. I think that everybody know now that I LOVE THE USA. I should have lived there today. Car crash: September 2000 ==> 10 months inactive ==> A new start in July 2001==> STOP: November 2004. My left foot was broken in 32 pieces, Surgery to fix the foot with the intention to "block" my foot in a 90° position, HOPING to be better. Before, you could hear me from a certain distance, caused by the noise coming from the sequels. The intervention was a 100% success, but 1 thing was overlooked: my back and the paralysis of several muscles left. I, REALLY FOR FILLED WITH HOPE and STRENGTH, wrote a CV to "carnival cruise lines", every single friend told me that they never would accept me. I met the Manager for recruiting on Valentine's day and he accepted me + a wonderful title: Medical Doctor Captain Senior Officer. Unfortunately they had the right to contact my treating Surgeons. RESULT: ZIP, NADA, NOTHING. The most awful period in my life + a real heavy shock, and a confrontation with my problems. If I should been accepted It would be a catastrophe. Sitting on the floor treating a cardiac arrest, they need 3 people to help me standing up + when trying to walk with NO POWER left: out of balance and falling. RESULT: a claim against me and the Cruise line. It took me very long to get over it: MY CHILD DREAM.
Sorry for this story, it was more to prove my affection with the USA. That's why I love the USA, and why I love the US versus EUROPE. Cheerleaders athletes? yes and no. I read that it is a tradition and analysing that word it seems to "cheer up". Very slowly, it's starting here too.
WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND AT ALL ARE THE MOVEMENTS MADE IN BASEBALL, THE SPITTING. IS THIS A KIND OF CODE?
