Bill, I think " you know my name look up the number" was John and Paul messing about during their downtime. It's not as good to listen to now as it was back then. It was Paul that got me into bass and learning to play other instruments and of course the fabs multi tracking.

Jim, I think it was Pink Floyd that started all the light show stuff as they were so boring to watch!!! their words not mine...ha ha. Any artist knows it's almost impossible to give a good rendition of a song while dancing like they do, and a lot actually mime to a backing track while dancing. Why pay to watch a performer mime, you may as well stay home and save a lot of money by watching the video.

TF. I'm with you on that. I think every generation want to put their own stamp on music and fashion for their decade. But as you say it's usually the music producers, DJ's etc, like fashion designers that guide styles and fashion.
I still wear jeans and tee shirts as I did in the 60's because those are the clothes I'm most comfortable wearing.

ok guys, here is my simple way of printing out songs;
1; download the song in question to whichever office program you use, I use Apache open office. Do this by highlighting all the bits you want, eg words, chord windows etc, then paste in your office.

2. Now you can edit as you like then print. easy?

To begin, I've never liked or rated Springsteen! Chuck Berry was very repetitive in his form of music, not to say he hasn't written some classics cos he has, quite a few in fact. I do like a good story song as long as it has a good tune, beat and performance. Most famous "nonsense songs" have a great tune and beat and usually do better than "real" songs. I'm still trying to figure out what "Human" is all about...great record, great performance but what's it about? Are we Human, or are we dancer?....what??

Unfortunately I've seen the world change so much since the 1950's. I have to add, not always in a bad way. I think men were being locked up, up until the 60's for being gay, so they married women to cover (themselves) (I think what I was going to say was too much of a pun?)  I think the advances in technology are great although being an old grump, I think a lot of it, musically, is missused. I was listening to the radio and a song just repeated the same line over and over again then went into an instrumental section which just repeated the same chords without the vocal. What has happened to pop music? It died RIP

You know Peatle, you've got a point. I don't know if you get them in New Zealand or Oz but we have these creep shows here called; big brother, love island, only way is Essex and the list goes on. They call them "reality shows" but I've seen more reality on the X files. Then there's the idiot shows like Jeremy Kyle or judge rinder where people make complete fools of themselves by airing their dirty washing in public, obviously to make a few quid!
I can see you are as angry as I am with this garbage? Don't get me started with X factor or the voice
Well done for putting into words in your unique and observational narrative way what I expect most if not all of us are thinking?

Hi Bill and Sondra, Ann and I wish you both a happy and rewarding Easter. I could only listen to a few seconds of that song as it's usually played at funerals here, but she looks and sounds great.

One of my favourite instrumental tracks along with Sylvia. Thijs s high voice has gone, maybe he's reached puberty?

I read somewhere that the producers of MP3's and music in general believe their mixes are perfect and need no other tonal control, ergo, no need for treble/bass control. I wish I was that perfect!

Thanks for that Peatle, I haven't heard about old Earnie for decades! If there's anyone out there that hasn't heard it do your laughing gear a favour and click the link.

Here in Wales, we had conductors till sometime around the 80's. Trams, horse drawn at first, then electric one's got faded out in the 50's. There were famous trams that operated between Swansea and Mumbles, one is on display in the Swansea museum. I'm beginning to sound like a travel agent!

this reads as if you've finally reached closure? i must say it reads like a page has been turned and you've finally moved on as has she. having been there, this moment feels like the lowest point in your life and your words reflect that. to be honest it reads like a song lyric? be strong, i feel you have more to say, this well is deep.

I've never heard of either guitarist, but I can say I admire them their style and ability. Thanks Bill, welcome home.

I can't say I know of any songs about defunct jobs. But one workman I miss is the humble bus conductor, or the female variety known as clippies "hold tight please" ding ding

Guitar synth maybe? They've come a long way since the 80's. I remember seeing the Yardbirds with Clapton playing a Strat which sounded like a violin.
I also remember a McCartney interview during the Wings time, they used a mellotron which constantly required retuning. mellotrons used magnetic tape so I guess they'd stretch? The Beatles did use one on Strawberry Fields and Genesis used it a lot on Nursery Crime to mention but a few.

it does sound like a mellotron, but there was another "early synth" at the time called a string machine? nice song,  early multi track recording; record in mono then mix into stereo as the beatles did late 60's. thanks for bringing this up.

Thanks Peatle, but I wasn't fishing for compliments just stating a fact. you only hear finished songs, not the raw bits that get edited out. You're a good friend and talented writer. I wish we could meet up one day and spend a bit of time chewing the fat and lubricating the larynx with some amber nectar?

"wonderful tonight" is Ann and my "song" and when artistes in our local sing it (i think i'm the only local singer that actually plays it) i get this urgent need to go to the loo! could it be because she wants to dance? i cant dance!!! unless i have to that is.
i don't think i could cope with practicing for 100 minutes a day, maybe that's why i'm a rubbish guitarist? and drummer and pianist and bassist...i'll stop now

Medical science has proved that alcohol, smoking, greasy food, eating chocolate and taking too many pills cause all sorts of ailments including cancer and dementia! I'm surprised that sex and stepping in doggy deposits on the street haven't yet been blamed. The latest one here is car exhaust fumes. Makes me wonder what simple pleasure we can still enjoy they'll try and take from us next? Let's hope it's not playing music...?

Firstly, open a new document in word. Next to the song you want to print out on Chordie or any other site. Highlight just the parts you want and click copy. Go back to your word page and click paste. You can then edit to suit yourself. It's easy once you've done it a couple of times.

I have TAAB1&2 great covers. Of course the most iconic cover is Abbey Road. I used to love Court of the Crimson King sleeve. Nursery Crime and Crime of the Century. I could probably find more if I looked through my collection. Great topic.

I have to agree with Jim, well observed and written in an entertaining and truthful way. A close friend of mine who played cards every Thursday with the same school sat in the same seats died last year. Another guy, the first reserve, took over and voiced his trepidation sitting in a dead man's chair!
On other tables, like mine, we discuss politics especially Brexit but also lots of other topics. Btw, I'm about the youngest there!
I say again...great poem.

Jeff. All your songs are beautiful and well performed, this one is no exception, wistful and containing a great story. I think we've all met a similar lady as described in the first verse, and as the song goes on I realized that no matter where you live or which continent we all have the same experiences. Well done.

I used my grandson as a simily, there is a new generation of musicians out there who should be encouraged not made to feel belittled by old hands squabbling over profanity. No one wants a load of spam popping up half way through reading the lyrics of a song...or do we?
As for banning members, did you inform the other mods to what you were doing?
On the other hand, people move on or pass on or have a grump with someone that was abusive or heavy handed.
It's not always an easy job.

I have and use at gigs a Boss ME 50. I dream of an 80. At home for recording I use a Digitech RP55 and a Donner Alpha Cruncher also a V Tone BD1 21 for bass. I tend not to meddle too much with pre sets and it's usually wet or dry, except for live solos if I need distortion or boost.
