acapo is correct. The verse is slightly different. Experiment a bit and you'll find the sound you're looking for. Good luck with this great song ![]()

Hey Zurf,
If you're going to be experimenting with different kinds of strings, try picking up a set of Dean Markley's Phosphor Bronze. I personally use the .12s (medium-lights), and find them to be a great compromise between good sound, durability, and cost.
Good luck

Great flow in the lyrics. Both in the ideas expressed and the way they are written. It`s very natural, as if you`re simply telling a story to someone.
Can`t wait to have some chords to play this with.
Well done.

glad you enjoyed it UYK,
It's actually a cover of the song "Satellite" by Dave Matthews. If you're interested, you should check out his album "Live at Luther College" with Tim Reynolds. It's a great acoustic set.
Here's a good video from one of their concerts just as an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yS1fnGQ62jg

Re: THE CHORDIANS WHO ARE THEY, WHERE ARE THEY FROM WHAT DO THEY THINK (31 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi. I'm from a lot of places, but currently residing in Quebec, Canada. I'm 27 years old.
I've been a music lover all my life, played the piano when i was younger, and always had a passion for the guitar but never the patience to stick with it so that I could learn properly.
Last year, I went through a huge personal issue (life-changing experience). I thought I was in Hell, and the only thing that helped me to ease my worries was listening to my favorite songs from artists like Dave Matthews, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, etc... After several years of setting aside my "musical creativity", I decided that maybe playing guitar was just what I needed to keep my mind intact. Also, I'm a relatively private person in the sense that I keep my problems to myself (not a great thing, I know) and don't like to share my troubles with others. So I thought it was a great way to express myself and what I had been through.
I found Chordie while I was surfing around for tabs and lead sheets for songs and, as Arkady puts it "I found so much more".
The songwriting forum is definitely my favorite place on this site. I haven't posted anything myself, but I always find myself inspired by the Chordian talents such as James McCormick (obviously), last_rebel, Jason Hague, Old Doll, Roger Guppy, Jets... just to name a few. I hope to post one of my own creations soon.
Suffice to say, that it is very rare to find such a diverse group of intelligent and friendly individuals (on the Internet especially), that respect and help each other to grow and improve in what they like to do best. We have people of all ages and from every corner of the world that contribute to this site immensely, not to mention a great team of Admin & Moderators who must work hard to keep these forums clean and enjoyable.
In any case, a big thanks to everyone involved in this site. It's helped me to improve a lot as a songwriter and as a guitarist.

Hey Doc,
The best example I could find on youtube was this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4NYWVbDcKg
I stumbled on this video, looking for Dave Matthews songs as I'm a big fan.
The singer is playing a Rainsong in this video... Seems to have a nice sound. Very loud guitar. Plus they look very nice.
Just hearing about your collection of gems makes me incredibly envious
. I'm sure a Rainsong wouldn't look too bad next to all those lol.
Bonne Journee a vous!

Re: Guitar Shopping - spendthrift or cheapskate! (35 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Tell me mrjay which model Guild did you choose and how do you like it ? As you know I love Guilds. As far as my new Martin I took my time and did a lot of shopping around. Even after deciding on a Martin it took me a good mounth to decide on which model. It was a long process because I figure on this being my last 6 string acoustic guitar purchase. Maybe a 12 string further on down the road
Hey again, patrickjacques. My Guild is a more recent model than yours. It's the GAD-50e which belongs to the more mid-range models. Check it out here:
http://www.guildguitars.com/instruments … 3810505842
However, knowing you bought your Guild a while back, you might be displeased to find out that the company is now under Fender and some of their models are being made in China. I was rather apprehensive of these new models when I found out this news, but was ultimately very surprised & pleased after strumming a few chords on mine in the shop. The tone is very deep & warm given the Indian Rosewood body & Sitka Spruce top. Amazing volume & very comfortable to play. All in all, a fantastic guitar and great value for people with a "mid-ranged" budget.
Next time you're in the shop, give it a try. You probably won't find it as exquisite as your new Martin or even your old Guild, but I think you'll be impressed. Let me know what you think. ![]()

mrjay wrote:patrickjacques, you're a danger to people's wallets =P
Btw, how is that poor Guild doing?
First of all mrjay a guitar in that price range is an investment. This is not money thrown away, and second of all I am only giving my opinion (which was asked for) I am sure sumelton is quite able to make up his own mind. And to answer your question about my Guild. I am not able at this time to have it repaired as I have invested all I have in my new Martin. This Martin by the way is the nicest acoustic and best sounding guitar I have ever played
I agree wholeheartedly PJ. Just thought I'd poke some fun at a fellow montrealer
. I myself have begun my own collection & I'm constantly looking for new guitars (all from high-quality brands :s). I've read some of your posts, and i remember you saying that buying a quality instrument will encourage you to keep playing. I found this to be very true when I picked up playing again last year and bought my Guild. I could have gone for a Yamaha, or something else that was cheaper than my Guild, but sometimes you sit in a shop with a particular guitar in you hands and you say to yourself "Ok, I don't care! I have to take this thing home!" Was it the same with your Martin?

jerome.oneil wrote:Get the minor nailed down. Then I'll show you the practical secret to major pentatonics, along with the theory behind it. It's simple enough that you'll laugh when you get it.
OK. Are you ready?
Here's the practical.
Play the 1st two notes of the minor pentatonic. Then stop. If you started on A minor, for example, you would be at C.
Now here's the "secret." Start from there, but continue to play the minor pentatonic pattern you started with.
Presto! Major pentatonic.
Here's the "why" portion.
Each minor scale is associated with a major scale. If you play a major scale starting at it's sixth note, you will be playing it's "relative minor." So for the key of C, for example, the sixth note of that scale is A. Play C major starting at A and you're playing A minor. This is one of the reasons why knowing major scales is so important.
So anyway, the difference between the sixth (VI) and the root (I) of a major scale is one and a half semi-tones, or three frets. So if you are playing a minor scale, and you want to start playing it's relative major scale, simply slide down (towards the bridge) three frets from the minor's root. Likewise, if you are playing a major scale, and want to know what it's relative minor is, simply slide up (towards the nut) three frets.
Piece of cake.
This is gold. I learned major & pentatonic scales but was waiting on the minors because I didn't want to mix up all the different patterns. Thank you Jerome, you're a music theory wiz!:D

Re: anyone know breedlove (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I had a chance to try Breedloves a couple of months ago when i went to Guitar Center in New York (they don't exist in Canada where i live).
I began by trying the Pro and Performance Series and then tried a couple of models in the Atlas series. However, I should have probably started with the Atlas because I was immensely impressed with the Pro & Performance but very disappointed with the Atlas Series.
I compared the higher priced Breedloves (Focus & Fusion) to the Taylors (700s & 800s), Martins (D-28), and Gibsons (Dove, Hummingbird) and I have to say that not only did it stand up to them but it had a tone that was just as unique as the rest of them. You could say that the tone is a solid compromise between the warmth of the Martin and the brightness of the Taylors. Between the two Breedloves, the Fusion was definitely my favorite (Mahogany & Sitka Spruce). On top of that, the neck movement is extremely fluid and the design of the guitar is beautiful (love that cutaway):
http://www.breedloveguitars.com/instrum … /index.php
Now the Atlas Series, I compared to my own acoustic as the ones that I tried were in the same price range (Breedlove AC25 SR & SM). My guitar is a Guild GAD-50E (from the new line after it switched to Fender), and since I've bought it, I've been constantly and pleasantly surprised as to how it stands up to acoustics in the same price range or even the more expensive ones. It has a warm, deep tone and amazing volume (it's a big guitar), and when you play, it feels like the music is inside you. Now the Atlases I've tried didn't give me the same feeling and I found the tone rather dull compared to mine. They just didn't have enough bass for my liking, and the necks felt a bit awkward.
Having said all this, I think that the best way is to give them a go yourself, but I highly recommend that while you try the Breedloves, have another few solid guitars in the same quality/price range that you can compare them to. When I bought my Guild, I was initially going for entry-level Taylors or Martins, but decided to try the Guild on a whim and ended up walking out of the store with it
... In short, go with the sound AND your gut.
Good luck

Re: REGGAE (3 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey Doc,
The rhythm count in reggae is 1-2-3 as opposed to most rock which is 1-2-3-4.
Check out this link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Q9nbPV5FM
This guy is obviously a pro, and his style is hard to replicate. But listen to how he explains the rhythms as he's talking to the interviewer (the samba beats are awesome too).
I had a hard time picking up this strumming type at first, but after listening to this, I had a much better idea of how to play reggae.
Also, here are a few good simple songs to practice this rhythm on:
- Lion sleeps tonight - Various Artists
- I'm yours - Jason Mraz
- Jammin' - Bob Marley
Bonne Chance mon ami!

Re: 12 String Guitar? (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
While we're on the subject of 12-Strings...
I've been thinking of picking one up (maybe a Norman or a Guild) because I love the sound. But, I hear from a lot of people that they're rather annoying to re-string and tune. Can anyone shed some light on this problem with their experiences?
Also, could anyone suggest some good brands for these guitars?
