Hi Doc ......
Four seems to be the most common .. My partner and I get by with just the two of us .. My partner sings lead on most songs and plays guitar .. I sing lead on a few songs and play guitar also .. I take care of whatever lead playing we need , and some songs I let my partner take care of vocal and guitar and I play fiddle .. Works for us and people seem to like the more simple approach ......

Hey , my favorite show when I was a kid was " Sea Hunt ".
Good old Mike Nelson ( Loyd Bridges ) always got the bad guy . L O L .... That show is the main reason I'm a scuba diver today .......... A while back , I finally found the entire series on DVD and bought it .. Love watching those episodes , even though they seem a little hammy now , they're still good to watch once in a while ......

My two cents are'nt worth much , L O L .. But I have to agree with admin .. I was trying to figure out why that topic was posted at all , much less allowed to continue .. In my shop where my friends come to jam , I have a sign on the wall that says : Do you remember the song ," The One on the Right was in the Middle " ? Good , leave your politics in your guitar case where they don't have anyone to argue with !!
Hey , like I said , just my two cents ..................

O M G ...... Arkady said it !!
Wires and cords .........
Now I myself am far from perfect , as I'm sure you have all noticed , L O L ...
But I keep all my cords that we use for music in a gig case and each cord is wound up neatly and secured with a little velcro doodad ... Anything short of that drives me around the bend ...
My little bro. and my bro. in law show up to a jam session and open a bag and dump the contents on the floor and I swear to God it looks like a snake pit .. Then they will spend twenty minutes trying to untangle the mess of cords to find the one or two that they need .... Of course I wonder if they do it because they know that I can't handle it ... Sometimes I will just leave and go find something else to do while this is going on .....
They tell me that I have a cord fetish and I need therapy , L O L ........
Even my pretty little wife has learned not to agravate it ..
One time about ten years ago , she said she was going to vacuum out her car .. Now in my shop I probably have ten or twelve extension cards hanging , all neatly wound up .. Everything from fifteen ft. to a hundred ft. When I was leaving I told her to grab a cord , so she could do it outside , about eight ft. from an outlet ... When I got back there was a hundred ft. cord all wadded up hanging on the hook .. I did'nt say a word , I simply placed it in her car ... The next day it was hanging on it's hook all wound up neatly like all the rest .........
Other than the cord thing , I'm pretty easy going , L O L . Well , except maybe for those people that think the whole neiborhood wants to listen to their tunes when they drive around ........

Hi Boomer , Welcome to Chordie !!
When you said " whiskey voice and craggy face " , right away I thought of one of my heros , Merle Haggard .
Also the " mama " thing .. I think he was still recording in the early eighties .. But then there is also , Waylon Jennings , Willie Nelson , boy the list goes on and on !! They all fit the bill ...
I will probably think of some more ... Let us know when we get it ... L O L .....

We really wanted to use the name Badeye has for his band ,( Crash Helmet Jug Band ) .. But we ended up using another name that Badeye came up with for me ,
" Hard Ground " .... It's short , sweet , and it was easy for me to write our opening song around it , L O L ......

Hi ,
Don't know much about the mandos , but have played and set up lot of fiddles ( or violins ) over the years ... The only difference is the style of music .. Although some fiddlers like their bridge set up a little flatter .. Easier to play three note chords ?? I prefer it the other way . Easier to keep playing after I've had a few ..
L O L .......
Although I do like the one about the case or the gunny sack .......... L O L .....

Re: Voilin: what tune shud strings be? (4 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Hey Gecko ,
I love the way most guitar pickers are terrified of violins .. The way Upyerkilt does it is also the way I do it with mine ( all eight of them ) .. By the way , if the instrument does'nt have fine tuners , you can get them at any music store cheap .. If you don't want the kind that install on the tailpiece , you can use the ones that just slip under the string .. Well worth the little bit of time and money ... Also , if the peg itself is slipping , there's is a product available that stops this , the stuff I use is called " Peg Drops " , and it works very well .. Violins are'nt as delicate as people think .. The two of mine that I use as workhorses take a beating .. The most important thing , is to protect them from abrupt temp. changes , also takes away a lot of the tuning problems ...

Hey R ,
I can tell you from experience , that unless these guys are into it , nothing you do or say is going to matter a bit . I've gotten together with people in the past that were such good singers and musicians that they could just go out on their own and make good money playing out , but they just had no motivation whatsoever . If this has gone on like this for this long , you're better off knowing now that they're undependable . That's the last thing you need when you're just starting out . To have people not show up for a gig.....................

Zurf ,
It certainly is pleasant payoff , but you have to know that this type of thing has been a fun joke between us for years . Sometimes if we're playing together at a jam and one of us has some new lick or riff , we turn away from the other so they can't see what you're doing with the fingers . It sometimes makes for some interesting cord tanglements when the other keeps try to come around and see ! Then we just start laughing so that we can't hardly play . We have a lot of fun with it , and so does whoever is watching...........L O L........

How about " Thunder Road " , isn't that one as much about the car as the moonshine it's carrying ?
Hey Zurf , when you mentioned " Hot Rod Lincoln "
It reminds me of years ago ,
I taught myself to pick that song at speed , which was no small feat . Then I taught it to my little bro. After that I just never really played it much . A few years later that tune came up at a jam and my little bro started picking it and I just could'nt keep up .
That's what we get for showing someone else our chops right ?? L O L.........

My wife and I love the old tune " A Whiter Shade of Pale" . We just can't hear it without dancing to it , no matter where we are......
A while back we were playing a party and Elvis Presley's " Can't Help Falling in Love With You " came up on our play list . My partner sings that one and I do the picking on it . I was asking around if anybody else could do the playing so I could dance with my wife .........

Hey Zurf ,
That reminds me of the last time Hank williams Jr.
played our " WeFest " country
music festival up here .
When he took the stage , the guy was so drunk that the crowd immediately began to boo him . He got all pissed off , took out a loaded forty five cal. handgun and started shooting it into the air yelling about how he would never play here again . Cops had to haul him off stage.............
