Bill

That is a very nice song - first I had ever listened to it.
My family has roots from Scotland - so today I asked him if he ever herd of it - he says oh yeah - our grampa used to sing it all the time.
I never knew that.

Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the kind words of support.

CTECH -as you can now see I just had to go back and put chorus differently - it was just bothering me. I'm not sure it made it better - but just sits better with me.

I appreciate both comments a lot.  Have a safe and Happy New Year.
Jim

P.S.  sorry it's such a "downer" of a song to end 2018 !  May better and wondererous  things to come  in 2019 !!!

Now, She Sleeps Alone  by  Jim Kenyon

At first I  couldn’t think of any musical way to change

the chords for the chorus.

So I just played the same sequence all the way through.

after waking up this morning - I changed it a bit so it has a chorus now with the chord sequence just a bit different.

.

I wrote it about a special circumstance, but I think it could fit a lot of stories

also - I changed the title  smile

Verse 1

[Am]There’s things that happen [Dm] in this life

which [Am] bring sorrow to your [E]soul

[Am]Things you’ll never [Dm]understand

And [E] things you can’t con[Am]trol

Chorus

[Dm] I know a girl as cold as ice

She [Am]has a heart of stone

She [E]never cries, she never smiles

and [Dm]now she [E]sleeps a[Am]lone

Verse 2

[Am]She once was my [Dm]own true love

and[Am] then she slipped [E]away

Oh [Am]such a caring [Dm]heart she had

I still [E]love her to this [Am]day

[Dm] [Am] [ E ] [Am]

[Dm] [Am] [ E ] [Am]

Verse 3

[Am]Her smile lit up [Dm]every room

But [Am]now that light is [E]gone

With[Am] hair so soft and [Dm]voice so sweet

lost [E] ‘tween darkness and the[Am] dawn

Chorus

[Dm] I know a girl as cold as ice

She [Am]has a heart of stone

She [E]never cries, she never smiles

and [Dm]now she [E]sleeps a[Am]lone

Verse 4

[Am]It seems as though the [Dm]sun should shine

and [Am]take away the [E] pain

My [Am]life, it seems so[Dm] empty now

and all I[E] feel is bitter [Am] rain

Chorus

[Dm] I know a girl as cold as ice

She [Am]has a heart of stone

She [E]never cries, she never smiles

and [Dm]now she [E]sleeps a[Am]lone

She [E]never cries, she never smiles

and [Dm]now she [E]sleeps a[Am]lone

detoxing from playing music ?

If so - it must be catching - I have been less than motivated this past week --- just hanging out with my fam and not missing the guitar at all.

Happy New Year !

That was interesting.
I am not convinced it is accurate however.
Listen to the Tommy Allsup interview and the Waylon Jennings interview -
Not at all the same version as Dion's.

I think as I listen to Dion's production,  - it seemed to me to be more about him than the depiction of the events.
Some really cool inside information though - I appreciate the link - I watched the entire thing.
The winter there must have been brutal   -25 degrees on a bus !

I was able to visit the Norm Petty Studio last year in Clovis New Mexico - actually sat in Buddy Holly's studio chair and held his Strat! ( I have pics if your are interested)
I also was privileged enough to meet and spend an hour talking with David Bingham - who was a back up singer for Holly on all of his early productions ( group was the Roses)
He was the coolest old guy- told me a bunch of really interesting and personal stories.  He said when they would drive with Buddy from Lubbock,Texas to Clovis, they would go as fast as they could - always trying to get there before they left.  The reason was the time zone change - if they could get there in less than an hour - mission accomplished. smile

anyway - very good post - Thanks my friend

I re-wrote some of the lyric - toned done the religious component a bit - I think its a little more amicable.
Changed a few of the chords and re-phrased the fit of some of the lyrics.
I like it a lot better

That was cool - there were a couple of spots it failed in it if you pay close attention, but did not stop the forward motion.  Can't imagine the man hours that went into that.
Thanks for sharing Bill.
