Hey Rebel, Check out this link http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Finishing_s … rnish.html You'll find stain and various other do-dads you may need here also. This finish will probably be the best for a first time project. Try to avoid your standard (hardware store) finishes they lay on thick and restrict top movement compromising tone...At least without the proper equipment for application they do. Acoustic guitar magazine had an article on building your own acoustic a few months back that covered applying finishes...I'll see if I can find my issue tonight and scan it into my pc and email ya a copy for reference. Peace!
Also just a tip...Be very carefull once you have it ready for finishing! Make sure your hands are very clean or wear gloves. All it takes for wood not to accept stain is a little suger (or other substance) from a drink or any thing on your fingers. It won't show untll you start to stain and then it will be fingerprints that just will not stain. The suger will seal the wood. It would also be a good idea to treat the wood with a pre stain conditioner prior to staining to insure even coloring as spruce (or cedar) are very porous woods and will stain unevenly without this step.
Never met any except for the few friends that I've had to join chordie. I'd love to jam with some fellow members though....Anyone close by? Southeast NC? Peace!
Hey Boe, welcome to chordie. If you go to the resource page here on chordie you can change all the songs to ukulele format. http://www.chordie.com/settings.php just choose your ukulele tuning!
As a side note... Have you heard that Zepplin has reunited for a upcoming tour? Should be a great show! Peace!
Only 22?...lol My wife put her foot down at #16! She said no more guitars untill I sell some. So I'll keep my 16 guitars (for now) but she left me a loop hole in stating only guitars. I now have my eye on a set of Latin Percussion bongos and congos with stands. They're for my 9 year old for christmas
...lol Who knows he may actually show some interest in them once they arrive. I'm sure I'll find them entertaining. Peace!
Cool, If you get her let me know what you think. For the price I may have to get one myself:) Peace!
Hey Southpaw, No personal experience but man that thing looks cool! Love the shape. Found some reviews here http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi … JM+62/10/1 And even a video demo here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcA7HGsfhC0 He's got 2 diffrent demos posted for it if you want to check out the other. Hope it helps ya out....Peace!
Ok, I'm not really Guitarpixx, but he (my husband) said he didn't mind if I used his name to ask this question...Yesterday he got me a RCA 8 GB audio/video mp3 player. I plugged in to charge for 4 hrs, then transferred some music to it, but when I unhooked it from the computer the mp3 just shuts down. I plugged it back in to let it charge overnight but this morning it still shuts down when I try to turn it on..I can access nothing..What am I doing wrong?? I can't seem to find an "idiots guide" anywhere ,so please help! Thanks soo much!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju0NyraO … re=related Ok, found it, This lesson starts of with the blues scale but he covers your hammer ons and pull offs in it also. Should be helpfull.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaNCwR1KQI0 This will make it nice and simple. The best video to show how to read basic tab! Peace!
p0 would be just a pull off to an open note. For example..On your low E string, 5p0 your hitting the string with it fretted at the 5th fret and then releaseing it for an open note without plucking the string again (sometimes you may pluck the string a little with your fretting finger when releasing it but that depends on the sound your after).
P3 is pulling of to the 3rd fret. example: 5p3 Would be hitting the string with it fretted at the 5th and then releasing it to the 3rd fret (already having the string fretted on the 3rd prior to releasing it at the 5th)
Hopr that helped! Peace!
ok I'll give this a shot but it may get deleted if so I apologize in advance...lol
Well It's my "Last Dance with Mary Jane". Oh "Sweet Jane" "Come on Baby Light My fire" Cause I'm Going to "Burn One down". Don't you want to join me on my "magic carpet ride" Look at that "Smoke on the water" Carefull for the cops they're "all along the watch tower" and I'd hate for ya to sing the "folsom Prison Blues". By being caught "riding dirty" Cause from what I hear every guy in there is just a "Boy named Sue". They won't "love me tender" with their "Suspicous Minds". Well I think it's "time for me to fly" before I "hurt" Myself...lol Think I'll head down to the "Love shack" and get some "sexual healing" on this "just anouther lonely day" before I "breakdown". Can you "Imagine"? OK, I really do need to stop. I could go on forever...lol I'd hate to lose your "R-E-S-P-E-C-T" in "Times like these" Peace!

I mentioned this to a few of my friends and they said that allot of old timers do this. So my question is why? Does anyone have any ideas? I don't think it really adds anything to the sound (unless you shake the guitar..lol)but I could be wrong my ears aren't exactly the best trained...Thanks!
how do you know it was 10 years old? is there a way of telling by looking? Coming from Scotland we only get grass snakes and adders,
can you still hold one of these rattles from a rattlesnake and make it rattle? does it rattle when you play the guitar?
maybe if it does rattle when you shake it, you are suppose to hold it while strumming like one of those wee hand shaker things that you hold while strumming?
Ken
Hey Ken, Rattle snakes add a rattle every year and this one has 10 rattles. Yea you can shake it and it rattles just like it did on the snake. I read it added to the tone also and that it was a natural humidifier.
Old fiddlers sometimes tuck a batwing in the strings on the head of there fiddles. It's supposed to help with tone also? Don't know if any of that is true but thought it was interesting.
And Doc, Yea I'll have to try the Rattle Snake Shake bit..lol
Last rebel, I'm really surprised you knew that...I thought that was just in my neck of the woods...lol I've been coon huntin' quite A few times myself but always pass on that portion of the kill... Maybe it's a guy thing but I just can't see doing that to anything (dead or not)...lol
Zurf, Yea I'm going to leave it in there..I'm a little superstitous like that also. I think it's a nice touch...Peace!
Hey I do a great deal of guitar research on the web and ,while I'm not familier with the brand right away, If you want to send pictures I'll check around and see if I can come up with something for ya. Peace!
Oh no, It's never too late!! I started last year at age 32 and it's been the best thing I've ever done! Don't tell my wife I said that...lol
Well if it was me I'd shot for a seagull s6 with Q1 electronics. These run $499 usually but with 20% off it'd put you at $400. IMO they're hard to beat for the money. Anouther option would be the Takamine G340 acoustic electric.
Well let's see...I started playing almost 13 months ago. I started off like everyone else just trying to learn chords and strumming patterns. Working on changes and finger exercises. I stayed there for 4 or 5 months only playing 1 or 2 songs. Then I bought a couple of song lessons and started on those. I started really working on scales then also. At 6-7 months I could play a few songs and my changing was really starting to smooth out. At around the end of the seventh month I went to local instructor and paid for a couple of lessons on theory, understanding the fretboard better, and pretty much just wanted to make sure I was learning everything the proper way. Sometime around the 8th or 9th month I really started in on Barr chords. This was a trying time for me...It took awhile to build up the finger stregnth...but I stuck it out. I guess around the 10th month I started working on walking bass lines, hammer ons and pulloffs , and some diffrent strumming techniques (like palm muting and percussion strumming to add interest to my playing). That's pretty much where I'm at now...I work really hard at the guitar and put ALLOT of time in it. I think I have progressed fairly well. I know most of my scales by memory and play them fluently. I'm comfortable with barr chords and have a large # of open chords down. I can play a few lead solos and my speed is starting to come around nicely. My biggest problem at the moment is changing between barr and open chords but I'm working on it and can see improvement. I'd say overall I'm very happy with my progress in playing the guitar....Now if only I could get singing down...lol It seems everytime I try to sing a song I forget how to play it. Just something else to practise I guess....Why can't anything just happen without all the work...lol
Just glad to help! All the Best!
James McCormick wrote:hello again ferretmummy - Another useful chordie feature is the 'Change Settings Intrument/Tuning' gizmo on the Resources page (right next to the Forum page tab).
You can specify your instrument (uke C, uke D, mandolin, banjo, left-handed guitar, etc) and then the chord grids displayed on your song pages will automatically show the correct fingerings. Alternate fingerings can also be displayed by clicking on the chord grids . . . .
That's really cool to know! I've been here awhile and thought I really knew the site (lord knows I spend enough time on it) The "Change Settings Instruement Tunning" Is an awesome feature that I was unaware of. This will be extremely helpful with my mandolin and Ukulele. Thanks much for posting this James! Peace!
Hey Tex, Just a thought...It's been my experience with the seagulls that Phospher/bronze strings tend to sound much better on them. The wild cherry is a little bright and the phospher/bronze strings really level out the sound. 80/20's ussually seem much to twangy on seagulls with wild cherry sides & back. But that's just my 2 cents. Everyone is diffrent! I just thought you might appreciate the insight... When it's time to change I'd go Phospher/Bronze lights. Hope it helps! Peace!
Well I just added a '95 Simon and Patrick Pro Quilted Maple to the collection....I guess I should go tell the wife I bought it... Well maybe not, there's no use in getting yelled at untill I have it here to console me...lol
I'm sorry..I'm just alittle confused...are you wanting it as an avatar here on chordie? If so I can walk you through it or you can email it to me and I'll adjust the pixels to fit and send it right back to ya and you'll be good to go. For use on chordie I believe it has to meet a 60 x 60 pixels and no more than 10kb size requirement. Almost any picture can be adjusted to fit via your paint program. Peace!
My 2 favorite intros (at the moment) would have to be Burn One Down by Ben Harper and Taylor by Jack Johnson. As far as the most recognizable my vote would probably go to Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd. Always loved the intro to Blister in The Sun also...
I haven't seen any one lately but thought I'd respond anyway...lol I think the category Bands and Artist is pretty much what you are suggesting. From what I gather by the desciption it is a place to list new and upcoming bands for others to check out and also to post your own projects. I'm sure reviews are welcome in the section also.
I keep checking dates for either Jack Johnson or Ben Harper to come within driving distance. They always put on a great show. I actually got a chance to sit down and talk with Jack at the last show I attended. It was several years ago when he was still fairly new. He used to come down and surf locally (Myrtle Beach) and always played at a few of the clubs. A real nice guy...down to earth. Peace!
