Welcome to Chordie and the wonderful world of guitar. You'll find a wide range of fellow guitarist here. Everyone is very nice and helpfull. The Seagull S6 is a great choice. I'm a huge fan of the Godin line myself. You may find it interesting to check out Simon & Patrick, Art & luthier, and Norman guitars also. They are all made by Godin. If you look at the workshop pics on all the sites you'll find it's the same one for all guitars. Or at least with the same layout. These other brands have not became as well known as Seagull has and can often be picked up for a little less. Though they are pretty much the same guitars with the same electronics. Hope this helps a little... Best of luck with the guitar. Peace!

Re: I'm kind of stuck with my playing. . . (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I went through this about 2 months ago! I think everyone reaches walls in learning. All I did was try to stay motivated. The songs that you think are past you're level may surprise you. I had a few that I wanted to learn but felt overcome by them. I broke the songs down into multiple sections and just took it one lick at a time. Before you know it the songs that were out of reach are under your belt. Just keep practicing... Maybe throw in some new touches to old songs (hammer ons, pull offs, walking bass lines, palm muting,etc...) This is just what helped me through it...maybe some of it will be helpful to you also? Best of luck! Peacefull picking ![]()

Re: New to Ukulele (4 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
Thanks for the the tips Ken. From what I can gather so far the baritone ukulele plays pretty much like a guitar as far as fingerings for chords go. I think that's going to make the cross over fairly easy. I'll be practicing Breakdown by Jack Johnson now. I've been wanting to play it but didn't have the uke...I'll post it in Chodians as soon as I get it down. Should be good for a laugh at least huh... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z50ZveXL-Ps Great song! Thanks again! Peace!

Topic: New to Ukulele (4 replies, posted in Other string instruments)
OK so I've been wanting a Ukulele and today I go to the music shop. I look around at some Ukuleles and on the way out I'm talking to the old woman who runs the shop. I've known her and her husband for along time and used to stop in when I was young and help her husband around the store and just talk a couple of days a week. Before he passed away several years ago. Anyway I tell her that I was thinking of taking up the ukulele. She tells me to hold on for a minute and goes to the office and comes back with an old dusty case? She hands it to me and tells me it was her husbands pride and joy and if anyone else was ever going to own it, she'd like for it to be me... So of course I refuse and she insist (you know the way it goes) So I force her to take $200 bucks for it and she finally accepts. Anyway it's an old Martin baritone ukulele. Solid mahogany with tortoise shell binding. I've never even held a ukuleles before so I need some help here. Anyone know where I can find chord charts and music for the ukulele. I looked around and found out how to tune it. DGBE. Now I just need some direction on playing it. Any tips or links would be appreciated. I know I could have just asked for the tips but I'm so thrilled with the new addition to that I just had to share the story behind it...:) Peace and thanks for the help!

Topic: Rattling an acoustic? (20 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I bought a guitar from an older gentleman a few months back and upon getting it home I discovered a 10 year old rattlesnake rattler inside the guitar. I mentioned this to a few of my friends and they said that allot of old timers do this. So my question is why? Does anyone have any ideas? I don't think it really adds anything to the sound (unless you shake the guitar..lol)but I could be wrong my ears aren't exactly the best trained...Thanks!

Re: MEDICAL PROBLEMS CAUSED BY PLAING MUSIC (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hey Doc! Hope all has been going well for ya! Your right this is an important topic! Everyone needs to be aware of the possible long term affects of what they do. It's funny you mentioned painter..That's my profession and I'm self employed also so I can relate to Your post. I never really thought about the consequences of playing guitar long term. I think this is were it's important to know proper posture while playing...Let me veer just a moment....I always considered myself self taught but I did take 4 lessons with a well trained classical guitarist. I took these not to learn music but to learn the proper posture for playing. The right way to hold the guitar and yourself as well. Here's just a couple of tips that anyone can use in their practise. I always use a foot stool for playing...This allows the guitar to rest at a natural angle and you don't feel like you have to lean over it or hug it to play. Which in return helps you sit straighter improving your posture and lessens the strain on your back, neck and arms. A good foot stool for playing guitar can be picked up at any music store for under $20. Also, this is going to sound odd but practise in the dark! Not all the time of course...lol but occasionally. This helps to break the bad habit of always watching your hands which causes you to always either try to lean over the guitar or pull it back at an angle for you to see, which will effect your strumming. You'll be really surprised at how much this helps your chord changing! Proper thumb positioning on the back of the neck can help tremendously with hand fatigue and it really does help with your reach once you get used to it. Practise making chords by just pushing hard enough on the strings for it to ring true..Alot of guitarist try to push the strings much too hard and not only is this bad for your hands but it kills your frets! Anyway, I've just been sitting here rambling on haven't I?...lol Hope at least some of that was helpful to someone...lol Peace!

Well it's a sad time in my life...lol I've gave it much thought recently and I've decided (much to the amazement of my wife...lol) that I have just way too many guitars. I know...Is there really such a thing? Anyway I've decided I need to part with some of them. I'd rather have a couple of really nice guitars (Thinking custom if I can afford it..lol) instead of several that I never really get to enjoy because of the number of them. I'm going to start off by selling either 7 or 8 acoustics or acoustic/electrics. I posted 3 last night on ebay and 2 more tonight and will list more ,probably, tommorrow. I'm gradually working up and the decisions are geeting more difficult...lol
I hope I dont violate any forum rules by doing this but I though I'd drop in a link to my ebay page incase anyone was in the market for a guitar or 2 or 3 or 4..lol http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrp … arpix11587
Thanks! Peace!

Re: I GOT A NEW GUITAR!! :) (11 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Congrats!! Would this be the G340? Sounds like it...They are excellent guitars. I also have one of these and can stand by them! I actually wrote the review listed with them for zzsounds. The tone is wonderfull isn't it. Mine had the best setup from the factory that I have ever recieved on a guitar. I just wish I'd known that you were considering them. I'm posting mine on Ebay in mint condition with Takamine molded case this afternoon... I did alot of research on these before buying mine since it was my first guitar purchase. All that I came across was very positive. In my opinion you have a very fine guitar and made a wise choice. I would rate these in the top 5 of guitars under $500-$600 with no problem. Congatulations again!! Peace!

http://luxlogs.com/GuitarBra/ I found this last night if anyone else is interested. I think they'll do the trick.
I'm always very carefull with my guitars but you know how it is when you get with a group of people playing and they start passing them around... Some people just don't treat your guitar the way you would. I though these would be a good precaution...Peace!
Thanks for the Welcome cytania. Yea I love it! It's my first Seagull but I'm familiar with the Godin line. Which is why I choose this one. To me they just have the most comfortable necks...Not to mention the excellent tone and value of these guitars. I also have a Simon and Patrick Pro Rosewood and a Norman acoustic that I treasure... And yea It has the laquer finish just buffed to a full gloss. It is a slightly thicker finish than the semi or satin but not enough to compromise the vibration of the top, especially with the new thinner braced curved top on these guitars.

Ok I just bought a new guitar http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=512259 As you can see it doesn't come with a pickgurd..I've read somewhere about a static cling clear pickguard. Has anyone tried these and are they a good option. I don't want to add a permenant pickguard but the thought of scratching the top scares the hell out of me..lol If you have any alternatives in mind please share them. Thanks. Peace!

Acoustic all the way! I have a couple of electrics but I'd say I've played them a total of 2 hours in the past year. I even prefer my acoustics without (visible) electronics. I've just always prefered the natural sound. It's me and the guitar that's it. If I play with friends I'd rather mic my guitar then plug in. I've tried to get into electric but it's no use..I play it for a few minutes then reach for the acoustic shaking my head and yep, I'm at home again:) Peace!

Love the song!! I picked up my guitar and played with it and love it!! I played it in power chords and gave it a Sublime/Ska sound (similar to "What I got") And thought it worked out perfect! Thanks for sharing it! Sorry to hear about Roger though...I had a similar incident with my furnace 2 years ago...lol Peace!

Re: Morgan Mystery (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Hey I contacted Carry at SHSaudio. They're going to check for any retailers in your area and drop me a E-mail. As soon as I recieve word I'll pass it on...Here's a link to Guitar Worlds video review of the guitar http://shsaudio.com/Morgan%20Monroe%20M50V.mov This gives you a good demo of the sound with diffrent styles. I would compare these very closely with the Blueridge BR-180's. I played both before purchasing the morgan and the tone and playability were (as far as I could hear) identical. The morgan had better projection which is why I decided on it. The string spacing is a little tight but theres plenty of room on the fretboard to correct this with a new nut. I haven't felt the need though...I've had mine for almost a year and so far it's all positive! I couldn't be happier with it!! If I can offer any asistance in your purchase or consideration of this guitar just let me know. Peace!
