Hey Superman, thanks for showing me a cool song.  Try DDUUDU for each measure (and each chord) and try the D G A chords this guys showing us.  Very simple and good song choice.

Welcome redsox.  Try "The Gear Page".  Their website has plenty of forum talk about trying to get a particular tone.

Hey T8ter, welcome.  After Thanksgiving is over and we get back to talking about guitars and music I think you'll find this a fun bunch to hang out with.     Welcome!
Steve

The Complete Guitar Player Songbook by Russ Shipton shows pick pattern for many popular songs.  And The Perfect Guitarist by Duncan Wood will show you pick patterns for guitar playing.   Hope this helps.

I'm borrowing Wayne's instructions so anyone can know how to post.  Let's see how your Halloween went tonight.

First - You cannot post images directly from your computer, you have to open an account at a file or picture hosting site. There are several available, free and easy. Most sites allow you to make your pictures private or public for viewing by others. I use Flickr (which is owned by yahoo), it's real simple to use. Linkage: http://www.flickr.com/

Then, in order to post a photo, you have to learn a bit of HTML code (that's right, now your a programmer). It's quite basic really - uses things called "tags" that tells the forum software how to format a message or item. For pictures, the tag is formatted as such:

Below I've followed Wayne's instructions, let's see if it worked:

Good luck.

Old Doll.

Also, for the group you'll want some to put capo on 2nd fret to illustrate how to transpose these same chords to G,C,D and keep in the same key.

Hey Crevs
I bought a Canon FS100 which records to a 4 Gig flash card up to about 3 hrs worth on one battery charge.  I paid $150 on Ebay and was like new.  I'm pretty pleased.  Here's a audio of a friends band that came out pretty good when you consider in close quarters we had to wear earplugs and all I used was the internal mic.  There is an external mic input but haven't found the need.

I think it's just a bass line. Not to say you can't strum chords that correspond to the notes:

What A Job – Devin the Dude

Bass line:

e--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
b--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
g-------------------------------0-----------------------------------------|
d--1------1--1--0-----0--3---------------------------------------------|
a--------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e-------------------------------------3--3--3----------------------------|

Which would make it E, D G or something like that.  Hope that helps.

I had same experience with G string.  I also experimented as many have but always disappointed in all the other strings.  Elixer Nano Custom Lights for me.  I can't remember the last time I broke one.  So what's changed?  I pulled the saddle out and used 600 grit sandpaper to soften the edge that supports the string.  I also very carefully softened the nut in case it had a sharp edge.  I lubed the nut with graphite.  And lastly I handle the G string very carefully when stringing it.  I really think kinks, bends, and sharp edges account for most of the breaks (other than the high stress and thinness).

Crevs -
Brain Picks for me with the "cat tongue" surface embossed on them.  Red .073" or Black .088" thick (for lead versus strumming).  The plastic isn't as hard as some, but I haven't found anything as agile.

You might try seeing if you can loosen your grip on the chords just after strumming to give your fret hand a rest all the in between time possible.  Does that make sense.  I know when I was starting out I was bad about holding on too tight in a deathgrip.  Loosening grip also allows quicker chord changes.  And welcome to Chordie!

Wow Pix, that was awesome and I favorited it.  Meanwhile, back at the ranch ...

Oh hey Hannah and welcome (back).  Some friends put an electric version together and I'm posting for your enjoyment as well.  But again, I can't get over the one Pix posted:

Harmonica coming along very well there Wayne!

Welcome to Chordie Iceman.
I'm with Russell on ME-50.  Has a tuner and delay and wah.  Had mine several years with no other pedals.  One cool thing I like is turn down the volume pedal with your foot to unplug a guitar without popping your amp speakers.    I've since bought a Boss Looper RC-2 and Ibanez Tube Screamer.  The looper is like having a band mate to jam with.   ps Also, I'm a newbie on electric.

I don't think I wrote the strum correct on the last two or three chords but I think I played it close.  Glad you liked it and one day I think I'll be able to do the whole song as well.  Since you've got passion you'll definitely play that song better than an easy one you're not into.  Your thread seemed to hit on a lot of people's interest here so keep posting.

Hey.  I'm pretty sure you're talking about a bridge when you say "solo" so if I'm correct here's some more help.  Use the Chordie post on Deja Vu at this location:
http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … ranspose=0

..except on right side of your screen select transpose -2 semitones.  Excuse me if you already knew this.  Not talking down just taking it one step at a time.    So then, you'll notice the intro AND the bridge don't "transpose".  So you have to change them yourself.  The into goes Em G Em G and the bridge/solo should now be C G D C G Em D G.

bridge/solo is just a few fast changes and a couple slow changes.  If you hold the 1st D and the last G twice as long as all the other chords and just keep a strumming pattern you should hear the familiar song.

You're gonna get it and it's gonna be a nice song!  Don't give up, it's nearly in reach.
Steve

Hey Z - Don't know how long I can leave this posted (depends on how much thrashing I get) but here's my attempt to break down the solo/bridge.  I really appreciate that I've almost learned the song thanks to your interest in it.   Good luck and let us know as you make progress.

Z I think you'd like and easily play Gin Blossoms Found Out About You.  Check these simple chords

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.l … ut_you.pro

Then, back to your desire to play Deja Vu.  Obviously it means a lot to you and there are no hard chords, so it IS within your reach.   For this song (and for many songs) the strum arm is going up and down the same pattern whether you strike the strings or not.  Down, up, down, up, constant speed.  You don't have to replicate his three strokes down, down, down at the end of a measure where the chord change is coming.  Just make it the same speed and go Down-Up-Down, rather than Down-Down-Down.  And change to the next chord on the last down.   But again, the strum hand keeps swinging even when you're not hitting the strings.  Hope that makes sense.

Steve

ps It's a pretty cool repertoire, so keep rockin and add two more whether they're you're best choice or just ones you find easy.  They all help you grow.
