It all falls into place a little at a time.
Since I already have this one done I guess I'll start. I know some of you folks have already seen it and a few were actually there. ![]()
City of New Orleans
Going by just the name of the song, I don't recognize any of them.
Maybe if I listened to them all something might be familiar but I won't be doing that tonight; probably not at all. ![]()
Just giving the title 'Historian' sounds a little bland so lets have some suggestions for something more imaginative.

City of New Orleans. I think Arlo Guthrie wrote it. Everyone has performed it.
Steve Goodman. ![]()
How does it feel?
How does it sound?
How does it look?Pretty much that order.
Yep. That pretty much sums it up for me too. If I pick up a guitar and it doesn't feel comfortable in my hands it really doesn't matter what it sounds or looks like. I researched the Martin DCPA5 and knew I wanted one. The first time I picked one up I was quite disappointed. It just didn't feel right and I wasn't spending $1500 on a guitar that felt "clunky" in my hands.
Now the first guitar I ever bought, I bought on looks alone. I knew nothing about guitars at the time. I walked into a mall music store, looked around on the walls and picked out an Epiphone with a sunburst finish. Sure I played it before I took it, but it didn't matter. I liked the looks of it and I knew I was going to buy it before I ever touched it.
I've learned a bit in the ensuing 35 years.
Wow memory lane and a bit sad actually. So many talented musicians, amazing people gone. I also looked at 2016 after 2017 and just so many have gone
And it's only going to continue. ![]()
Truth be told, I only NEED one, the one I'm playing at the time, which is the Martin. It's nice to have the 12 string for simple songs that could use a little extra sound but I don't need it.
I don't Need the 1946 Epiphone Broadway but, well, it's a 1946 Epiphone Broadway and it's really cool.
The other 8 I could take or leave. They're something for a guest to play if they didn't bring one of their own.
I have no plans or desire to buy any more but as Phill said; never say never.
I've sold a few recently too. I'm down to 11 now.
Welcome back Pete. I've been MIA for a couple months myself.
I work with chainsaws and an industrial wood chipper and I always wear ear plugs at work. But playing or at concerts; Nope.
I've been rather sparse around these parts for a couple months too. We had a death in the family and no arrangements had been made beforehand. I figure it will be another month until we have everything sorted out. But I'll be back. ![]()
Happy New Year JoeyJoeyJoey. ![]()
For those that don't speak Spanish:
Wishing you a Happy New Year with the hope that you will have many blessings in the year to come.
A new year is like a blank book, and the pen is in your hands. It's your chance to write a beautiful story for yourself. Happy New Year.
I'll plan to visit some cities in 2018 or 2019.
...I'm not surprised about the Brexit for example, by the way British use to think differently than Europeans. (which is a good thing in my opinion)...
...The US, and most of the American continents are Christians. While in Europe... No comment.
If you have the time when you come for a visit, don't restrict yourself to looking at only the cities. This is a BIG country. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is slightly smaller than all of Belgium and Massachusetts is one of the smallest states in the country. You will find that the crime rate is usually much higher in the cities.
From the comments you make here about Brexit and Christians, you would probably find more people that think like you in a rural area. And there is a LOT of rural area. But there are disadvantages to rural living. For example, it takes me nearly an hour to make a trip to the grocery store and back home. You learn to do as much as you can when you go into town; like buying non-perishable food in bulk. I do it once a month. On the other hand, when you live in or near a city, everything you need is only minutes away. I prefer rural living.
Guns? Yes. There are many. The U.S. is known around the world for it's love of guns. I live in rural Pennsylvania and private citizens probably have more guns than the entire Belgian army.
But we do not go out shooting everyone and everything in sight the way some of the media attempt to portray it. Good, law abiding citizens far outweigh the criminal element.
Your choice of cities to explore have one issue to consider. Being on the Atlantic Coast puts them in line for a direct hit from hurricanes. It doesn't happen every day but the potential is there for catastrophic weather events. All 3 of the cities you mentioned were hit hard in 2017. If you should choose one of them, you should educate yourself on how to be prepared for a hurricane and be ready to evacuate when the call comes to get out.
As you move away from the coast and towards the mountains the risk of a large snowstorm comes into the picture. In North West Pennsylvania and Western New York State near the Great Lakes, the snow is being measured in feet right now. Buffalo NY and Erie Pa. have had close to 10' of snow this winter. Being on the East side of the mountains we have only had about 5 inches. Cold? Yeah. It's brutal out there. High today will be around 20°F and it's going down near 0°F tonight.
Like Doug said, the Pacific NW has a very moderate climate. There is also the potential for major earthquakes on the Pacific Coast. But that risk is much higher along the southern coast than it is on the northern coast.
No matter where you go there will be positives and negatives. You will have to weigh each side and decide what you are comfortable with and what you aren't.
And like Topdown said, if you can arrange your visit to coincide with Chordiestock or one of the other Chordie events, you could talk to people from all over the country.
Good luck in your search. ![]()
Upstate NY, USA
It’s -11 outside
Jim
You poor soul. We have a nice toasty 13° this morning.
Going down to 3° overnight. I'm not even sure I'll step outside today.
However folks are celebrating the new year, stay warm and safe.
Sweet! Pun intended. ![]()
I have the molds to make "musical" candy.
Merry Christmas Joey!
I do not use Facebook either...
...Those who live their lives on Facebook just don't have much other things to do in a day. Best lesson, just stay away.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I have a FB account but you won't see anything on my homepage. I stop in there 1-2 times a month and rarely have anything to say. Apparently they got tired of waiting for me to fill out my profile so someone decided to guess where I live and where I went to school. They are about 15 miles off on the school and 100 miles off my home.
I know a couple that have a landscaping business. The wife would post all day, every day. one summer she posted that thry were going to Israel for 3 weeks. What do you think happened? Yep. They were robbed while they were gone.
Unfortunately I'm going to be tied up a several more weeks cleaning out my late mother-in-laws house.
I've squeezed in about 15 minutes of guitar time in the last 3 weeks. Heck, my callouses are starting to get soft. ![]()
39 C tomorrow ... summer has arrived ... !!
39° here too but it's F not C. ![]()
